The renowned blogger Curtis Yarvin, also known by his former pen name Mencius Moldbug, returned to the podcast to bend my mind on the politics of COVID, the meaning of a Biden presidency, and a host of other issues that I thought I knew well. No one makes me think harder.

I mostly support this idea, but I find Moldbug difficult/mildly annoying in both formats. I can't get enough of his ideas and sense of humor, and I'm glad I heard him at least once speaking, because he reads like a really arrogant hateful person, but he speaks with a matter of fact sarcasm and seems genuinely caring and concerned. That said, I think in text, he's pretty unfocused and rambling (which doesn't bother me, but a lot of others), but in video he's got way too many um's and uh's, he's a terrible public speaker. So I can't tell what I like better.

I didn’t realize that you couldn’t eat spawning salmon because they were already eating themselves. But now I feel totally disturbed and anxious because I don’t know what the next phase in the bureaucracy’s life-cycle. Does the state have to just collapse or go to war to stop rotting perpetually?

Look at the Afghanistan war, the US has spent roughly the same amount on it as the Vietnam war when inflation adjusted- how on earth could that have happened when the Afghanistan war was on an a order of magnitude less intensive- pretty simple really, the extensive bureaucracy that the DoD and its contractors have created around themselves has been a mechanism of achieving exorbitant profit and rising costs, why do you think Mattis is now with General Dynamics- the rot has truly set in, the question now, is anyone in the rest of the world any better?

It is striking, when you aggregate all these historic examples, the constant and gross asymmetry that occurs when liberal regimes engage with honour based orders. Honour always loses; they simply cannot conceive of an opponent without honour, who treats their word as contingent and is heedless of tradition. This is a fatal blindspot when dealing with liberals. It runs from the Sioux to the Japanese, and all points in between.

@jimbarino2
@jimbarino2 2 года назад
Haven't finished this yet, but so far I think this shows a bit of a flaw from a year and half later) of Yarvin's take: there were actual functioning governments in the world in addition to our US shitshow, and none of them really did any better than any others over the long term. At any given point, you could look at one and say "See? They are doing much better!", but eventually the virus was gonna virus. Quarantine can work for awhile, but eventually you come into contact with virus and you get affected. And as for the vaccines: the "safe and effective" vaccines have turned out to be neither. I actually think that the warp speed, Leslie Groves approach would have worked against another sort of virus - but the nature of coronaviruses is such that no one has ever successfully created a vaccine for one, and has often killed people trying. The arrogance of the medical establishment about their newfangled mRNA tech convinced them that they could get around this, but it turns out they couldn't. Ultimately, it looks like doing nothing would have been better than what we did, worldwide.

Honest question, why does Moldbug believe in the virus being an issue in itself with such a low mortality rate? Instead it seems he is supporting it as being an actual issue in itself.

He said his wife is at risk, so there is obviously a personal risk. Regardless, the point is that the virus would never have been an issue if there was a competent government to combat it; we are at a point where the virus has spread so much that letting it spread is the only option.

Why is Curtis thought of as being alt right?
@Btn1136

It’s a way to smear him and I think some people took his ideas and went a bit neonazi with them- ie “The Cathedral” is “the Jews”. Which is ironic considering Yarvin is Jewish.

Google Open Letter to Open Minded Progressives. Here is a quote: "The Cathedral has two parts: the accredited universities and the established press. The universities formulate public policy. The press guides public opinion. In other words, the universities make decisions, for which the press manufactures consent. The Cathedral operates as the brain of a broader power structure, the Polygon or Apparat-the permanent civil service."

Uhm... I think washing hands almost certainly does help reduce the spread. It's a lung infection, it transmits via eyes, nose and mouth. If you have it, you're probably going to transfer it from face to hands and from hands to surfaces. I wouldn't take seriously some one-off article probably not saying what you say it's saying from the Post.

It's that covid is airborne, not surface spread is why hand washing doesn't help as much as 1st thought.
