Sick to death of their insane commute, Andy and Emily are desperate to sell their three-bedroom, semi-detached home...But after three long months on the market, they’ve switched agents and still haven’t received a single offer. The near-new, semi-detached property features a great, split-level layout in a popular new lakeside community...But with its lackluster, builder’s white interiors, cluttered kitchen, drab master bedroom, and weird room allocation, the home is turning buyers off.
In order to give the home personality and a much-need ‘wow’ factor, Sofie unveils a radical design makeover. And while Anthony and the team repaint, give every room a proper function, and create a custom home office and glamorous master retreat, Sofie gives the couple an emergency lesson in basic real estate.

The problem with this house for most people would be the layout. 2000 sq ft but it actually is a bunch of small rooms and 1000 sq ft of stairways. Most people over 40 would not want all those stairs. That couple was so cute. I always wanted fake pears...I always wanted things that stuck on the wall and he giggles.

All that house needed was a good declutter, a few colorful drapes and maybe a couple of pieces of rented furniture but the house itself was great. For me it was "move-in ready". Nothing needed to be fixed and yeah, the walls were plain but for me, I would rather have the blank canvas to choose my own paint.

Ok, now I see why so many people gave this a thumbs down. The put in a cheap table which should be a dark stain, they spent $500 on a light fixture is way too much, and they put too much green in the basement which is an eye sore (I can't see anything but green). A person shouldn't think of a house being their "forever home" because they rarely are. We've had two different homes we thought were "forever homes." Too many unknown events happen in a person's life that can change his or her circumstances. I know from experience that it makes it much more emotionally wrenching to sell a "forever home" than one you just think of as a "house."

Research has shown that homes where shoes are removed as people enter the house are cleaner and healthier. Personally I wouldn’t want to be friends or relatives to anyone who has smelly feet, so if it’s a toss-up between people’s dirt-trodden shoes or their socks, I’d rather have their bare feet or socks on my carpet and rugs. And service providers do have these very inexpensive shoe covers they can put on their shoes. Have you ever had them track dirt into your homes onto your carpet or floors? Taking off shoes or simply covering shoes with the disposable covers makes it less of a headache. What do you think people with white carpets do? Just let anyone wander in willy-nilly? Trust me, your company doesn’t want any of its clients calling to report the filth brought in by your service or repair people. It’s expensive to rent professional rug cleaners.

Asians do not wear shoes in the house. Why wear shoes in the house anyways. You're not going anywhere. We go bare feet, wear slippers or wear socks. Your feet smells because you're always wearing shoes...lol. Air them out and thry won't stink. Be respectful when going to Asian homes.

@Xcuze of course there's exception. Also if you live in snowy country and you have repair people coming into your house, how would you feel if they trek in snow and dirt into your home? Makes sense to take their shoes off. Even if it's summer time, repairman that comes to my house always takes their shoes off in my house unless I let them know it's OK to leave their shoes on. Just saying.

The house had too many little plants choking the furniture. The plants belong in the garden. The renovations look nice but the wall hangings will leave holes in the walls that need to be patched. The chandelier box was over the top. The mustard walls in the comp house looked ghastly, btw.

This house design makes it unsellable to me. You walk in to that mean little downstairs area after claiming the front steps up half a floor. From there, you are greeted with more stairs up to a landing. To get to the family room, down a full flight of stairs. Then even more stairs up to the bedrooms. That is bad enough, but think of bringing groceries in. Presumably there is access to the house from the garage, but no matter if the car is in the drive or garage, everything has to be carted up the stairs to the kitchen. A tiring design to live with.
