It always hurt a little when I realized that Russel was trying so hard to get that "assisting the elderly" Badge because his dad promised to be there when he got it. His mom seems to be more present as he does mention her and she can be seen at the badge ceremony at the end supporting him.

Man that scene with the rest of the scrapbook and Ellie's message is so perfect. Also very sad when you consider that up to this point, Carl was doing all this, not for an adventure or to honor Ellie, but because he felt like he failed her by never going to Paradise Falls. This was very much an act of atonement, imo, and I think he probably would've just sat in his chair forever like you said had the message not been there. Ellie's message opened his eyes to the fact that she didn't think of their life together as a failure in any sense of the word, she saw it as the most grand adventure and she was happy with all of it. All that to say, I think the change is very sudden, but also very earned when you consider how that little message changed his entire perception of his life.

This movie has a special place in my heart. When it came out, my girlfriend and I had just gotten the news that she can't get pregnant, and that it's because of a degenerate disease that will eventually be lethal. So when we sat together and watched Ellie and Carl getting that terrible news hit us hard. But the rest of the movie of them being together, AND Carl being there for kids that aren't his, gave us new goals in live, in terms of being there for other people's kids.

My family and I grew up with Pixar, but this film in particular is one of my mom’s favorites. She likes to rewatch this particular film every now and then. Paradise Falls is based on the real-life Angel Falls in southeastern Venezuela, which continues to be the tallest uninterrupted waterfall in the world. Ed Asner, the voice behind Carl Fredricksen, has sadly passed away in 2021. Before he passed though, he was able to lend his voice as Carl one last time in the sequel series titled Dug Days.

I think the main reason why Carl and Ellie’s house could POSSIBLY fly is because the chimney just happens to be right in the dead center of the house. Making it far more stable when lifted by the balloons. But given that house is also from the 1920’s or possibly even earlier, I think it’s safe to say it’s one of those buildings that was made to last, especially after Carl and Ellie restored it.

It still amazes me how folks don't know, MOST Children's Stories/Fables weren't meant to be 'Cutesy/Hugsie' stories. They're usually dark/sinister, and often have horrible themes. This was supposed to help educate children in the very real dangers of the world, but in ways that were a bit less traumatizing. This movie is adorable, in spite of all the swirling undercurrents! Great 'Reaction,' too! :-)

I'm not sure "live your dreams while you can" was the message. It's that even everyday life can be an adventure, if that's what you want to make of it. It's not about the location, it's about the mindset. Carl thought he let Ellie down, but he didn't - they had an amazing life together. *That* was their adventure. Likewise, Ellie gives him permission to have a new adventure, but that isn't about bringing the house to the falls. In fact, Carl didn't even really treat that as an adventure for most of it, he was still being a grumpy old man. It's about finding new relationships, which he does through Russel and Dug, and *living* again, which Carl wasn't doing before.

When people tried to buy the house from her to build these big company buildings, she refused so they had to build around, just like we see happening with Carl. Over time we graduated from those tiny tents up to ones you could stand up in, and finally one that could literally sleep twelve people while also parking the trailer that carried our gear in the back of it... with a gazebo outside for grilling under in the rain, and wind-breaks for a fence that allowed us to make a parking spot for the car... and the trailer tail had a custom cooking station that we made and installed... It. Was. Glorious.

Nothing like watching people's souls get crushed in real time while they're too inebriated to handle it emotionally. :)

The opening to this movie and the bing-bong scene from inside out get me every single time I watch them.

This was SO FUNNY, which was bad for ME because I watched this laying next to my napping husband, and was trying not to shake with laughter 😂😂 As to your question about camping at 16:30: I love it. Sure, using the bathroom outside isn’t fun, and j kids my bed after a couple days, but there’s nothing like it for reconnecting with nature and DISconnecting from this too-fast, always-yelling world. And I need that.

I remember when I went to go see this movie in the theater. It was my 7th birthday and me, my mom, dad, brother, grandma and auntie all went out to dinner and caught a showing at The Castro Theater here in San Francisco. So much fun

1) there’s a Pixar short about other elderly people being inspired by the balloon getaway and trying their own versions. It’s worth a watch. 2) the DVD/BluRay release has an Easter-egg on the main screen. It leads to an explanation that was cut from the original script about how Carl’s older hero is still alive. The reason he wants the bird captured is because the eggs it produces slow the aging process. He had been consuming eggs to the point of driving the bird species to extinction. It contrasts with Carl’s story arc of learning that true immortality comes from passing your wisdom and love onto the next generations.

putting up a tent as it starts to rain is an IQ test, the dryer you stay the smarter you are.....had to asemble a 2 person tent as a storm came through, no option other than take down the poles and sit on the canvas to stop the tent blowing away as there was no time to get to secure with the buildup of the wind!

There is a really sweet series called Doug Days. It takes place after Up. Sadly Ed Asner died shortly before it released but he did get to record some Carl stuff before he died.

I love camping as I'm on multiple festivals during the season. But that's the best of both worlds. Sleeping in a tent, attend lots of great concerts AND having a warm shower every day :D

There are dozens of memes about the first ten or so minutes of this movie, most are "greater lover story than twilight"... but seriously it shows how you convey a past story in a relatively compact time and still create emotions.

It's all about definition. Up is a horrormovie bc they focus death on some point or How to train your Dragon which is a slasher bc someone loses his leg.

For anyone else wondering, they estimated it would take 23.5 million party balloons to lift Carl's 1800 square foot house. In the movie, only 20,622 balloons were rendered for the lift-off sequence and 10,297 for most flying scenes.

Why are they important? As an early educator: It helps students develop observational skills. By observing clouds, students can learn to identify different types of clouds and make predictions about the weather. This can help them to develop a better understanding of the natural world around them. It introduces students to the concept of weather forecasting. By learning about the different types of clouds and the weather conditions they are associated with, students can begin to understand how weather forecasts are made. This can help them to make informed decisions about their own activities, such as whether or not to go outside for recess. It helps students develop an appreciation for the natural world. Clouds are a beautiful and fascinating part of nature, and learning about them can help students to develop a greater appreciation for the world around them. This can lead to a lifelong interest in science and nature. It can be a fun and engaging way to learn about science. Clouds are a familiar and relatable topic for students, and learning about them can be a fun and engaging way to learn about science. This can help to spark students' interest in science and encourage them to pursue further study in the field.

We all do these things every day. Educators use these things to orient the future adults with how the world works. If we explained how to change a tire they’d know how to solve a problem they’d have less than 10 times in their life and be brain dead to the world around them

Fun fact, this movie is believed to be inspired by a house in Seattle (not to totally sure if it was) that the owner didn’t want to sell to make way for the new buildings so they just started making new tall buildings around it. I think the house is still there but I could be wrong, I also think it’s knows as the Edith Macefield House.

Movie Theory: Carl never woke up that morning. Russel is the angel of death(or Carl and Ellie’s never had child) and the journey is Russel leading Carl into acceptance of the afterlife/resolution of his regrets.

This movie starts and I immediately cry every time!!! The whole rest of the movie is a mix of nonstop laughter & more crying! This beautiful movie hits straight to the heart every time! Side note: When you do start Star Wars which I cannot wait for, be prepared for a lot of content and a strict way to watch the entire timeline in order. It would be like watching Iron Man from the very beginning to where you are in the MCU now at Season 2 of Loki.
