As somebody that had a 858 for years and never liked it, and then uptraded to a 862D, I congratulate you. That old 858 to me was really a toy and I could never get things done properly with it (well, could be skill-issue too, but... meh). Upgrading to 862D, a proper station, I never ever have looked back. Hot-air became actual fun again, desoldering smd lost its horrors. I don't have an angled nozzle yet. If you do get one, please let us know how you like it. Also, there is a "heater-off/cool" setting too (holding that power button), handy for cooling down things or fault-finding too.

Desoldering that cap with the Atten made me wince, I was waiting for it to launch but it didn't? wanted a chuckle lol, I've seen them go flying just being next to them let alone direct heat! nice addition to your workshop ;-)

Adrian just cleans his PCB's with soap and water in the sink, no special cleaning products required 👍

Thanks for d-limonene tip, I often fight glue residues with acetone and IPA and its always quite laborious and messy job so I will try it to see if its any better

@@morefunmakingit2 I changed it up a bit: as I don’t trust myself I’ll give my girlfriend 200 euros, which she will pay me back in X months when I lost Y in body weight (variable to be determined). If I will fail she will buy some very nice shoes for herself… I hope that’s not too much incentive for her to make me fail though!

One of the first things I did, after getting a semi-cheap end hot air soldering iron, was to mount it on a really sturdy arm from an old architect lamp. I reckon the lamp was from around the '60s or early '70s, so really good and properly over engineered. Anyway, this really turned out to make a huge difference for me. - I also have this talent for neglecting to turn off things which has the potential to burn the house down if left unattended. Luckily I am very good at remembering to turn the lights off when I leave the room. So, I obviously have the ceiling lights in my hobby-room, which is good and fine, but never enough. But I have also got some very good white (almost floodlights) LED strips on the underside of a shelf just above my workbench. I've deliberately made it so, that the only way to turn these on or off, is by flipping the switch on the wall... the very same switch which provides power to all and any of those potential fire-hasards.

Thats a good system to have. I would like to put everything on an arm mounted on my wall, but there's so much stuff on that wall already it just gets too busy.

@@morefunmakingit2 Well, I don't really have any wall space left either... no, that old architect lamp arm is just one of those that screws onto the table... with THE hugest '60'ish cast-iron-over-engineered monster-gripper of ultimate overkill. - The top part of that gripper looks like an tray of sorts for gizmos and dingymabobs. If it actually is supposed to be an ashtray, then it is ingeniously impractical to empty and clean out.

I think those hot air stations are going to be about the same, the heater and fan are in the handle I would guess they are the same. also audio was super low.

A little suggestion. Voice level in your videos is a little bit to low. "crank it up" a few dB.
