Good call to tone down the hardware, you could clean it up then expose it to ammonia fumes to age it or add patina within a half hour. Also to tone down the red, you need to go to the opposite side of the color wheel. So opposite red is green. Now slightly tint your topcoat with green, (very, very slightly). This will cancel out some of the red. If unsure about how much green, you can do a test and see what happens when it dries, you should see NO hint of green. Or you could always add a second tinted topcoat over this. Good work. I happen to like this style, but you put too much stuff on it for staging (this overpowers the furniture, which you are trying to make the focus).
I absolutely love real the stained wood. Last winter I seriously debated to either paint or refinish my 32 oak kitchen cabinets that had turned orange over the years from poly. I ended up stripping, sanding, and bleaching them then restaining with golden oak. Nope they didnt go back red or orange. They turned out a gorgeous yellow light brown with each showing off thier grains differently and they do look amazing. I even upgraded them by adding wood rope trims. The hardware I didn't like, were originally bronze but I found when rubbing them with steel wool they became polished copper, what a surprise. The rose gold- polished copper actually softens all that grain and made the cabinets look amazing.
Great profit margin. Good to hear your feedback on the return of wood/dark wood finishes. As an interior designer, I am exposed to a lot of what the industry says is on trend, but it's craftspeople such as yourself that really have the ear to the ground, picking up on changes in people's preferences.
Hope you can buy and store a lot of this kind of thing before the trend hits and the prices for the wood pieces climbs. I know so many of my older clients feel like they can't give away their mahogany and cherry fine furniture.
Love the result! For the handles, I spray paint then matte black and then use some Rub n Buff to highlight lightly the edges of the handles (European Gold is my fav). Really tones down the handles and feel more contemporary/transitional
Just found your channel after receiving a sample of the same pontchatrain green paint, intended for an Edwardian desk. The color is beautiful but watching both of your videos I’ve decided to simply do the dark wash on it, and find something else to use the paint on. Both of your projects have the perfect outcomes in my opinion.

Not bad for a quick refresh and flip. It could have used a protective finish on it. Maybe the customer will be wise enough to put that on himself before he moves it in. A quick spray of lacquer would be better than nothing. The hardware looked fine either way. I would have stuck with the newer look.
I was hoping you would use oval Hepplewhite drawer pulls (in antique brass). Darkening the original pulls made it look much better than the bright finish, though!
This is beautiful. I have the same exact buffet server that was given to me by my grandfather. The poor thing is pretty banged up now as I had a golden retriever that loved to jump up on the thing and it is scratched all along the top. What grit sandpaper should I use to get the scratches out? I will have to refinish the piece, but I don't want to ruin it lol. Any help will be appreciated.
I loved to just watch it hope u get some new pictures frames or soemthing. Maybe you could do others furniture they are attach to it but look horrible. And charge for entirely set

@flippedbyabby I have a buffet similar but I think mine might be older. It’s all original, regular wood tone & well loved. It was my Grandmas & she was born in 1892 & passed in 1976. I’ve had it since 1981

I think it may turn pinkish 🤔 I have no idea but now I’m curious. Green would be the opposite to neutralize it but I’d worry about seeing the green lol
This piece is stunning. I was amazed at how much that paint wash changed the tone, it’s perfect looking now! 😍 I think everyone is looking for wood tones, trying to warm up all that grey that was in decor trend almost everywhere a few yrs back. Lol

Haha yes!! I recently cracked the code too and was telling my sister about it yesterday. If you get espresso based drinks your coffee will be more consistent and stronger! I cannot do their regular iced coffees. One day they’re fine next day their water with barely any coffee flavor! My favorite right now is Decaf iced latte with cinnamon sugar and 2 pumps of caramel or vanilla. Anyway. Crazy coffee girl here too. The piece is BEAUTIFUL!! I have a buffet and it’s solid wood and I was going to redo it with a modern paint color and strip/stain the top but now I’m thinking about using this to update the top instead of stripping because it’s such a strong finish. It’s just UGLY. Curious could you reverse this? And do a tan/white wash with top coat instead to lighten a finish? 🤔
YES the coffee tastes too watery for me now too!! The espresso is 💯 I haven’t tried it with a lighter color yet! I would think it might not work great and look hazy but I could be totally wrong. I do love using the retique it wood products to fake a light wood finish without stripping
