For me, this is the best Sherlock Holmes take. Even better than the classic ones. At first, I was worried about a modern take on the character too. But, after seeing the first episode, my doubts completly vanished too. This show is a art work.

'Sherlock' was outstanding and I'm a hardcore Sherlockian who hasn't enjoyed anything this much since the Jeremy Brett series, Cumberbatch was born to play the great detective.

Benedict Cumberbatch= BEST NAME EVER. :D This show is my heart and soul--not only do I love the Conan Doyle stories, and just about all the renditions on screen, but Steven Moffat IS BEAST when it comes to complicated stories and he is just THE PERFECT person for a good Holmes story. He's made Doctor Who series 5 just absolutely brain-melting awesome, and ditto for the Holmes!!!

@rosiemany His voice is a little bit different, but still amazingly sexy. I think it's because here he isn't in character, here it's his actual amazingly sexy and beautifully rich and silky voice, and he's not playing Sherlock who is all serious well mostly (times he jokes with John) serious all the time. Here he's very conversational and honest and intelligent and amazing (etc.) and what not. A very interesting video to watch, if you LOVE Benedict Cumberbatch and you wanna know more about what he is like. Watch Simon Pegg: The truth about Benedict Cumberbatch (5:47) it's not a bad video, and you learn stuff about Benedict that you might not have known before.

THE BEST TV SERIES IN THE WORLD. I am a huge fan of the books and I am absolutely pleased with it!! The best modern adaptation of the series so far. The acting couldn’t be better; both Sherlock and Watson are perfect, even fitted in the 21 century. Bravo! !

I had a real crush on Sherlock Holmes when I first picked up Arthur C Doyle's book in Primary School (yes, I was that young). Why does Mr. Cumberbatch have to be so fetchingly attractive? Isn't it enough that he's playing one of the most tantalising characters ever invented?

Benedict pitched Sherlock very very well. I wonder, with Moffat being one of the minds behind this, was he one of the people who auditioned alongside Matt Smith for the role of the Doctor. I do of course hope that Matt stays on for as long as possible but if he ever decided that the Doctor is not the role for him (more fool him) Benedict would make a great 12th Doctor.

FYI - The Masterpiece Mystery airing is cut for time...there are small nicks from scenes here and there. It's still worth watching, but if you've seen it on BBC America or on DVD, you will notice the difference.

I love when an adaptation uses a detail from the original but turns it around--in "A Study in Scarlet," the police think "rache" is "rachel" that just never got finished, and Holmes was the one who correctly saw the German word. But that wouldn't be as likely in a modern scenario, so they flipped it here. It's kinda like in O Brother Where Art Thou? when Penelope has a bunch of daughters and just one suitor that she actually likes.

When i was watching this i thought it seemed a bit doctor who'ish, and so wasn't at all surprised to find moffat was involved. Brilliant. Loved it. And i almost never watched it due to my despising of anything sherlock holmes....... i am converted !!!

Dammit, I've only seen a couple clips of this on youtube, and I'm so excited! XDD My sister's got her hot little hands on the first series, but won't let me watch it 'til I go back home for the holidays. :( However - I've completely cleaned out the fanfiction on it, and I still can't picture Rupert Graves as Lestrade - in my head he's Phillip Jackson (Insp. Japp from the early series of Poirot.) XDDD

@XTomXFeltonXLoverX HAHAHA My first thought when I watched this yesterday! Merlin and Sherlock now my two favourite bbc shows. They both have a really strange prettiness... with the cheekbones and the full lips and the long face and stunning eyes. The pale skin and dark hair is also a plus :D

I think both Stephen Moffat's and Guy Richie's version are very good. but Stephen's is more cerebral and closer to the source material.
