How to upgrade your Ledger Nano S Firmware using the Ledger Live Desktop Application. Chrome has depreciated the Chrome apps, therefore the old apps might not work.

Firmware 1.5.5 only holds 3 apps?
Firmware version 1.5.5 introduces new functionality and is therefore slightly larger in size. Moreover, the ETH app has significantly grown in size so Ledger Live can support ERC20 tokens in the future. These changes have caused some popular combinations of apps to become impossible. If the Ledger Nano S can still hold up to 18 Bitcoin-based apps, there is a limitation to 2 or 3 stand-alone apps. For example, if you have BTC and ETH, you won’t be able to install XRP or TRX

this is really ridiculous! you buy this USB stick for $60 and trust it to hold and secure maybe thousands of dollars in crypto and you can't get the dam thing to connect. How can we trust it?? I'm trying to update my nano S. stuck on bootloader. not venting at you. you are great. trying to help everyone. where the hell is ledger support. hard to contact. they really need to make this thing work out of the box.

At first i did not see the USD value that stayed at 0,00 but after a few moments it showed up! only hoped for a little bit more space for more coins. You went through this like a champ! thx so much

Thanks for the video! Some apps takes more space that others. All coins that are Bitcoin likes (direct or indirect fork of Bitcoin) are usually really small and you can install many of them. All the apps that are supported by LedgerLive are bitcoin-likes except ethereum and xrp.

People with firmware 1.3.1, just remember to download Ledger live (1.7.0) then update first to firmware 1.6.0, then you can update you ledger live and update again the nano s firmware to the newest one

where do we go to download Ledger Live version 1.7.0? I just downloaded Ledger Live from the ledger website (version 2.21.3) but don't see an option to download an older version of ledger live. I've also reset the ledger using the recovery phrases but Ledger Live still doesn't connect my device.

Thanks for another easy to follow tutorial! I was also very surprised about the 3 app limit, could it be a ploy to get existing customers to upgrade their devices?

VijayGunners 8bp I’m guessing with the enhancements, it takes more memory. They initially made the memory smaller for security reasons I believe. Hope your upgrade goes as smooth as mine did!

I held the left button and it makes a noise. Bootloader appears on the ledger screen but does not load bootloader in the ledger live app

Hey, i have 1.3.1; haven't accessed my ledger nano S in about 2 years. I never get to the Ledger Manager like you do in the video because when I open Ledger Live and go through the set up (skip device setup > ledger nano s > is your device genuine) the Ledger Live app never detects the nano S (after i check to see whether the device is genuine). Any idea what I can do? I am merely trying to gain access to a secure wallet.

If you never figured it out as of yet. I had the same problem. I used a different USB cable and it worked. The original cable powered on my ledger but for some reason, Ledger Live would never detect it until I changed it out.

So, am i correct that when i perfom this update just like in de video i do NOT need my 24 words phrase? This because I lost my words but can get into my ledger nano S with my password but have the 1.3.1 version still on it.

Hey Gary. Finding this very useful. But just to be clear... I am on 1.3.1 and have never restored using the 24 word phrase. If I want to be 100% sure my 24 word phrase works, I should buy another Nano and restore that first. Correct?

If you have your restore words, try a hard reset, then upgrade, then put your words back on the device to restore access to your coins.

I stuck in bootloader (booting 1%)I have windows 8 and still didn't get any way out of this mess I tried everything!!! I searched everywhere and didn't find any solution to fix this problem, Every time I connect my device to give it another try, it starts in booting 1% and it takes about 12 to 15 hours to finish booting process and then the ledger Icon appears and starts flashing with no sign of progress! And when I decided to reconnect it.. After 2 attempts it starts from scratch!!! I've been doing this for 5 or 6 times since then.. It occured when I wanted to update mine to 1.5.5 and remained unsolved up to this day... I'm still searching to break its chain! But no success yet please help me if u can 🙏

@@johndarling4179as I`ve mentioned the new version of firmware is not capable with win 7 or 8, furthermore, it required to use win 10 or Linux instead ... I did it and now it works !

If you have the recovery phrase, initialize it, update the firmware and then put the recovery words.

Nothing, but your chrome apps might not work since they have sunsetted them.

How many apps can you DL on your device? I can only get 3 and that's not enough for me..

Andrew Freeman I got 3 apps on the latest firmware as well. I had 6 before. If you need more, I’d suggest upgrade to the Ledger Nano X since you can load all available apps.

Hey man, I had the same problem for about an hour, but I finally got mine updated! All I had to do was uninstall EVER app EXCEPT settings, make sure all apps are uninstalled 👌🏼

Pops Febus so open ledger live, and for example, reinstall bitcoin again. Now I want to go to “add accounts” then type in “bitcoin” then follow the steps to access your bitcoin! If u have another alt coin, do the same steps!

d herschberger MEW has been updated but it looks like it still works the same. I’ll look into ERC20. I just dumped Cindicator which was an ERC20 token. Been reallocating my portfolio to more BTC for this next run up.
