I just stumbled across this and thoroughly enjoyed and was uplifted by it. As an adult convert and amateur apologist I really appreciate Dr Peterson with his broad knowledge and approach. I enjoy speaking with doubters, if there is even a hint of real truth seeking, too many are just lazy or mad because they don’t want to live by a standard, as Dr P stated. I hope to find his books, they sound like a great resource. Thank you for this information and entertaining discussion!

I’m not sure why I feel to make this comment, but here it goes. As we seek to love people with the “perfect love” that it speaks of in the scriptures, we need to remember that perfect love is not shaped by compassion alone. It certainly is largely shaped by compassion, but it it is also shaped by wisdom, foresight, knowledge of truth, and other divine attributes. Love that only takes compassion into the equation is not perfect love. I hope that helps whoever it was intended for.

@ And yet here you are. The fact that you're even on this page suggests that there's doubt in you.

@ maybe the reason you're here is because you're bored and the controversy speaks to your more basic human self. Or maybe not. That would be true of me if this was anti mormon channel. Hahaha... That's a valid point. That wheelchair analysis. I've seen God's hand at work in my life and miracles too. But even more than these, blessed are those who believe and have not seen. The witness of the Holy Ghost sears one's heart beyond doubt. Greater than seeing a dead man walk again. And greater miracles for me has been the miracle of the witness and testimony of the Holy Ghost. Like I said, it sears the heart beyond doubt. I know.

Thanks for sharing the wisdom, Andrew... There needs to be TRUTH as well as love... Truth is that it was NOT the Lord's will that JS marry all those females, some in their early teens, some already married to other congregants... God's ideal for marital unions hasn't changed, is still the same as it has always been, "one man for one woman." (Matthew19:4-6, Mark10:6-9, etc)... An important maxim of the Lord of the Bible is: "Treat others as you would have them treat you." Proof that the "Jesus'" of the BoM+ is not the same as the Jesus of the Bible. The "Jesus'" of the BoM+ favors JS Jr much more than the broken-hearted husbands who thought they were marrying their wives for eternity.... sigh...

Dr Peterson, I agree, that the "online discourse spirals out of hand to fast."

Brigham Young inveighed against those who use the Lord's name in vain, indicating that any Mormon that listens to such language must react indignantly. By that standard, most of TV entertainment is often grossly offensive, and we should walk away from it, but we don't. To be in the world but not of the world is increasingly challenging, but to react in the manner that President Young indicated would be taken wrong by a generation of vipers.

He is impassioned yet he does not persuade. I’ve never heard him dismantle in any kind of convincing way the criticisms that have been made of the Book of Mormon or Abraham.

I'll offer just one thing about the Pearl of Great Price that I have yet to hear any critic explain away, and they attempt to quickly change the subject whenever I bring this up (or just throw insults and make for the door): In these scriptures (Abraham 3), the relationship between the size and rotational speed of planetary bodies and its effect on the passage of time are discussed, which also matches the Holy Bible's description of the passage of the Lord's time vs our time. Only the Book of Abraham specifically ties this relationship to planetary size and rotation. When I joined the church at the age of 30 years old, these scriptures struck me hard because, as a US Navy turbine propulsion engineer and "moderate level" physicist, I instantly recognized that I was actually reading the main principles of Einstein's theory of general and specific relativity. Only this was published and in circulation by an "unschooled farmboy" 37 years before Einstein was even born. Funny enough, I have massive personal testimonies of the truthfulness of every aspect of the Gospel, and yet this is one of the very few of them that have anything to do with Joseph Smith. Or perhaps I have that backwards - everything that I have investigated ultimately prove Joseph Smith - personal flaws and all, just like every other prophet before him - to be more prophetic than any other prophet before him save only Jesus Christ.

What are the observing the truths in the book of Mormon with out the bias, or without prejudice when that which is observed by man thought or revealed can not be verified to be that words of god, or that of a god directly but has the revealed evidence of a book if the books that suposed to be from God directly, but can this god in of the bible be a God that is a father of the universe that is changeless come into the so called time and space universe with cause and effects, perhaps we might say material universe. Is that not that a credulous belief makes god in a small box, and not that of the real God a more of a philosophical , with logical, and reason but with spiritual insight fact but one his a spiritual father, and his does not have a material body, of flesh or blood. I admire you for your open mindedness. Keep up the interest in staying thirsty and looking for the facts that led to eternity, without limits, but within the various categories of what is truth, ? The Potus Pilate famous saying? I stay humble because that is all that I have faith in too, a living spiritual God that is unmovable from his place in eternity.

37.58 u said, amen i agree. You're being diplomatic and he is to, I get that, but what he says about other gods like allah, budda, etc. Are same as God of Abraham then I emphatically disagree. Muslims even agree with me. Namely, that Christians and muslims do not worship the same God. If so they wouldn't be chopping Christians heads off. Consider what allah required Mohammed to do. He was commanded by allah to behead the enemy. That's this devil talking. That same charge of murder and compulsion and submission exists today. The god that appeared to Mohammad that day was without a doubt the adversary... we are their sworn enemy; and they will change our laws, infiltrate our Gov't, unto submission by way of commandment, and we will foster coexistence and diplomacy and peace. And unfortunately that's a consequence of a free country. The enemy has residence in our land and is protected by our laws. Aside from that , I enjoy your guest he's awesome and your awesome too 👍 Peace out!!

Hey Dan, one of the critiques we often hear about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is that we "worship a different Jesus". Our reply to this can be any number of things, but my favorite is this: "We may understand him differently, but there is only one being in heaven named Jesus Christ. Both you and I are trying to worship Jesus in the best way we know how. I'd like to give you room to worship in the manner you feel is best, and I hope you'll do the same for me." This reminds us of our article of faith #11: "We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may." A feeling of mutual respect is what is needed among the world's religions. You'll notice that our prophet and other general leaders don't spend time criticizing the beliefs of others. They spend time teaching what we believe to be true, and show dignity and respect for those who define God in a different way. Any distrust and animosity that members of the church feel toward our Muslim brothers and sisters needs to be swallowed up in the patient mercy of Jesus Christ. He's in charge, and we shouldn't spend our time trying to criticize other faith traditions for doing what they feel is best. You might benefit from reading this article in the ensign: www.lds.org/ensign/2018/04/understanding-islam?lang=eng Take care, and thanks for watching!
