I have learnt so much about Creality Print just from following along with Bill's videos. Instantly subbed just because of how easy he makes his videos to follow. I keep calling him CNC Kitchens long lost father because of how in-depth Bill goes! One thing I seem to be having trouble with is tolerances with parts fitting together so any tips for that would be much appreciated!

Are you doing your own designs and don't know how much tolerance to build into your designs or is the problem with other people's designs not fitting together properly? In my designs I usually go with 0.5 max tolerance for parts fitting together, sometimes I'll tighten then up, but that's my general design tolerance.

Good stuff! In your opinion, how do you think that Adaptive Layer Height compares to Fuzzy Skin? Would it ever be appropriate to use them together, or is it more of a "choose one or the other" situation?

Good question. I have doubts of this being successful. You might get some decent results depending on the model. But Fuzzy skin is only applied to vertical surfaces. Adding Adaptive layers, on a domed surface for example would probably give some results up until just short of the top of the dome leaving a noticeable area of non-fuzzy skin. Since I haven't tried it personally, I am just speculating on what would happen. I may have to try it some day for fun. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching!

I've looked into adaptive layers and there's one question I cannot find an answer to. Does it affect the entire layer or can it be set to affect only certain walls? What I'd like to see is that the outer wall only be printed at 0.12mm but inner walls and infill be printed at 0.24mm. So basically it would print 2 layers for the outer wall for each inner wall or infill. I'd also like to see an adaptive layer setting that affects line width. Even a "paint on ironing" option would be a huge help. I have a whole wish list here. 😁

It affects the entire layer. I haven't watched the full video yet, but CNC Kitchen released a video this weekend about interlocking layers that looks like it would use different layer heights on the same layer. I'm not sure how this would work without nozzle interference, but I still haven't watched full video yet. Stephan at CNC Kitchen is a smart guy and I'm sure he really researched this.

Just started using Creality print not to long ago and just found your videos. They have been great. I’m gonna try a print using adaptive layers for the first time and when I set it up the same as you have it and then slice, my whole print shows up as blue and that is a layer height of 0.0. How is the possible? I don’t see anything out of the ordinary. The profile is setup with a layer height of .20 mm.

I ran into that once and I'm not sure why at this point. I was bouncing back and forth in Creality Print from an Ender 3 V3 Se, the K1 Max and an old Ender 5. At one point I sliced on the K1 Max and it was all blue with the layer height of 0.0 like you said. My plan was to come back to that profile and check it out. When I finally got the chance, I couldn't duplicate it. In fairness, I wrote it off as a "glitch" that night and didn't think much of it until reading your comment. I don't have an answer, but I will see if I can find one. If you change to a different material in Creality Print, does it still do it? If I come up with an answer I'll post it here so you'll be notified. If you find something, let me know. I would be really interested! Thanks for watching!

Have you tried the same print at 0.1 layer height with adaptive layer height would be cool to see im gonna try it out. How many times did your creality slicer crash making this video?

I haven't printed the same model at 0.1 mm. There was no need to. 1) I've done it in the past, 2) I've printed over 20 test pieces at varying later heights and settings during the research phase for this video. The test pieces consisted of rectangles with angled tops, rectangles with rounded tops, half spheres, quarter spheres, at least 6 of these large chess pieces, a couple of downloaded models such as spiders and articulated bugs for their spherical shapes. As for Creality Print (not Creality Slicer, two different programs), crashing. Zero times. Also note, I don't get a dime from Creality for these videos. I don't get equipment from Creality. So when I tell you that Creality print did not crash, I have nothing to gain or lose by telling you that. If you are having issues with the slicer crashing, make sure you are running Creality Print, Not Creality Slicer. Also, I do run Creality Print in Administrator mode, I don't know if that's helping or not. Thanks for the comments and thanks very much for watching!

hi Bill, this Old guy is back again my new ender 3 V3 KE is just working fantastic from the initial set up I have been printing printing printing, I printed some containers with screw lids and they worked fine, just a little bit tight so I thought I wonder if I could reduce the layer size to make the actual thread work better so I got researching and stumbled onto this feature, adaptive layer heights, I didn't even know such a thing existed and after watching your tutorial I'm going to Apply these steps in adaptive layer heights in Creality print and see if that doesn't help the threaded portion of something end up working with a finer pitch, What do you think Bill? do you think adaptive layers might help with screw threads just an idea I'd love your opinion on this subject thanks again for your best of the best tutorials my RU-vid favorite! 😊 ps. I am really enjoying creality print I still don't understand why so many negative comments about it everywhere, so cool to be able to slice something and wirelessly send it to the printer after 8 years of the a net A8 this thing is light years ahead of what I had!

I've never tried Adaptive Layers with screw threads. I'm not sure that it would help but it's worth a shot and I would love to hear your results. If it were me and it was a downloaded model, I would try to scale the lid up just a little. This would give you a looser fit. If you designed the models yourself you could loosen up the threads there. I mostly use Fusion 360 for my designs. I have a video on my channel for designing threads for 3D printing. The key there is using a Push/Pull feature to build a little play into the threads. Good luck and again, if you use the adaptive layers and it works for the threads, it would be great if you could post your results here.!

It's a little different. The Adaptive layers icon is on the main toolbar, all of the way to the left. Its a series of horizontal lines all stacked on top of each other
