Mrs Catherina is obviously the best, i studied her questions and answers just in 5 days and I passed, the materials she provided was exactly the questions I saw on my test day

honestly i realized that med school imposes on us a continuous re-evaluation of what it is we really need, and i think majority of the time its for the better. A couple years from now you wont even remember your score and you'll be working and treating your patients just like everyone else. The challenge is to be content. there are people who score really high and are not content/ still stressed.

Couldn’t agree more! Very well put. I think there’s two extremes: the student who studies every second of the day to try and attain the best exams/residencies/job and then the student who realizes you can actually attain a lot in this profession with minimal effort. I have been all over the spectrum and I realized the most content life I’ve ever lived is when I see the balance of things which starts with perspective. If you don’t trust that the process is ultimately for the better good of your career and future patients then one might be tempted to just coast through. If you trust the process too much & think it’s infallible then one might pursue perfection in every little detail (letters of recommendation, grades, boards, extracurricular) for the wrong reasons (to try and measure up to the system they are in). I found that when I believe overall the system is working for the better good of doctors & patients but it does have flaws just like all things and I am at peace with that fact it allows me to work hard but also not hold onto superficial things so tightly imposed upon by the system. Then of course, having a faith in God allows me to trust ultimately when I’m imperfect and the system around me makes mistakes, I know ultimately it will all work together for good.

Watching your channel makes me feel so much better. Thank you for being so up front and honest. I'm in medical school too, and I've faced failing a class, and I'm going to take STEP one this coming June. I literally don't even want to put a single ounce of my worth into that test no matter how good/bad I do. It's just a test, and honestly it's just a part of the journey, it's not everything.

Hey Kevin, thank you for watching and I’m so glad I could offer some comfort. Congrats on make it this far on your journey to be a doctor. You got a road ahead of you with STEP but if you can reach a place of peace before you start getting in the thick of studying, you will glide right through. Not only will you accomplish taking one of the most difficult tests, but you will refine your character and develop coping skills to get through the rest of your career. Let me know if you need any help :)

Loved this video. So much more important things in life to be grateful for. Even the fact that you got the score you got , I can already tell you there are people who wish they could just pass and they find that difficult. So be proud of yourself and have peace in knowing that you did the best that you could and everything in life works the way it should. I for one I am so proud of you for even getting this far. I am a fmg non Caribbean non american but my american med school classmates matched on ranging from 210-235. Reason for mentioning my non Caribbean med school is as you know ivy league med schools>amer med schools>reputable carribean med schools>other foreign med schools though non reputable carribean and foreign med schools are interchangeable but then research/internships etc are also factors.

Thank you for sharing! Really helpful. I also am wanting to do pediatrics so I’m hoping this as well places me in a pretty safe matching category for my score. We shall see, medicine always keeping us on our toes

@@lifetime_learner ok my senior. A Canadian(so non American obv) got a 210.He did get a 230+ step2 score and did his cs and step 3 but didn’t match first time around.The following year with a bunch of shadowing/externships under his belt. He matched in paeds. I am pretty sure you being an AMG have a much much higher chance of matching as us fmgs have visa issues and so residency programs wanna avoid the hassle and choose US citizens obviously as you know.

208 is a great score honestly
@lifetime_learner
@lifetime_learner 3 года назад
Thank you! I think so too. Everything is so relative in medicine. For someone who got a 270+, they’re going to say it’s a bad score. For someone who failed step 1, they’ll say 208 is amazing. That’s why I’m trying to learn it’s all about finding peace with your own situations & not let outside sources dictate your security.

As I said in the video, I am very fortunate to have my score. However, two things can exist at once, having a low score by US standards but also being content with what you have. Best of luck! I hope you get a score that allows you to match in the USA. It is an awesome country to work in!
