The USS Midway Museum is an unforgettable adventure for the entire family. Guests can spend the day exploring more than 60 exhibits with a collection of 25 restored aircraft. The self-guided audio tour, narrated by Midway sailors, brings the carrier's history to life. Those who dare can "take to the sky" aboard one of two flight simulators.

Proudly served aboard this fine ship from May 1974 until May 1976. I traveled to San Diego a couple of weeks ago to see her for the first time in 39 years and participate in the 40th anniversary celebration of Operation Frequent Wind. Proud and humble beyond words... AG3 Bennett OA Division (weather guesser).

I have over 3,400 hours of volunteer activity with the USS Midway Airwing. I am but a small part of the group that restores and maintains the aircraft onboard the ship. It's rewarding to read the positive comments from those that have visited the ship. The USS Midway Museum has grown from it's difficult inception to now hosting over 1 million visitors each year.

Stationed aboard her from 73 - 75 . Rode the ship from Hunters Point to its home port in Yokosuka Japan . Was on the deck during frequent wind . My division was V - 2 ( catapults and arresting gear ) . My main position was the number 2 “ wire” control room . In mid 75 I transferred to the Constellation to finish my enlistment. I left the Navy in January 77 with a rank of ABE 2 . My time on Midway was the best .

Brings back allot of memories. Came over to the Midway with VAQ-136 in 1980. We took VMAQ-2's place.

Had the pleasure of going on a tiger cruise from Halifax Nova Scotia (eastern canada) with my dad about 95 or 96 I think it was on the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) a lot of this kind of reminds me of the few days I got to spend on it. thanks for putting this up so people can see it. not everyone gets a chance to see inside a carrier but have family/friends on the navy and serve on these types of ships. Thanks to all veterans of all branchs of service for your time and commitment

I love it! Lets people really get as close a look as their ever going to get at carrier life. As a former ABH3 I know it very well! Also love the manicans! I would put them into all kinds of funny maybe inappropriate positions! But go Midway Magic!

I served as a 17 year old sailor in the V3 Division in 1955 as the Midway went around the world. Great cruise. My wife and I visited her in 2009 and now my wife understands the source of my pride in having served. The crew quarters certainly are more plush these days!

+darin max Hello my friend. You reported aboard Midway (CV-41) just as I was leaving the Kirk (FF-1087). I was proud to be part of Battle Group Alpha, and an escort for Midway. We did plane guard for her more times than I recall. What a privilege to serve in the 7th fleet. Spent 3 years in Yoko, and am a better man for it. God bless you all, shipmates.

This is truly a fantastic tour. Served aboard her from 1985 to 1987. I wondered why they never played the Midway Magic theme song?

You can't tour this ship -- the Midway -- without appreciating all the tremendous, back breaking work put in by volunteers to get this ship looking the way it does today, and the Herculean efforts to procure aircraft to put on display. This ship looks as though she could drop her lines and set sail today.

This will probably be the last carrier preserved as a museum. Honestly, I think it's the best-looking of the five carrier museum ships. I like the architecture of this ship even if the modernizations ruined its ability to travel in rough seas. I imagine part of why this ship was preserved was that it was well-kept when it was in service. I think it was in better material condition than its sister ships were when they were retired.

I was stationed aboard the USS Midway(75-78) with VF-151(F-4 Phantoms) and VF-161 was our sister squadron, my brother was in VF-161 at the same time. Worked on F-4s for a few years and retired as an Aviation Ordnance Chief Petty Officer. Many hours on these airplanes and on the flight deck. Thanks for the video.

Visited the USS Hornnet @ the former Alameda Naval Air Station. Did ya'll know that this ship -- the Hornet -- is alleged to be haunted with benevolent souls? It is alleged to be the single most haunted venue anywhere in the world.

When I was on board the Midway during Vietnam it's designation was CVA41. When and why was that changed to just CV41? I know it meant something like carrier attack.
@brettt777
@brettt777 2 года назад
It's a designation for attack carriers. I remember seeing old labeling on some of the carriers I was on in the late 70's, the Constellation and the Ranger. They also said CVA-64 and CVA-61. Not sure when it was changed. Some time before I went in in 1977.
