Embattled Uvalde school district police chief Pete Arredondo has been fired after outcry over the handling of the Robb Elementary mass shooting. Arredondo had been on administrative leave after the massacre that left 19 children and two teachers dead. An attorney for Arredondo said he and other responding officers “should be celebrated for the lives saved, instead of vilified for those they couldn’t reach.”

@@olajideparis He didn't have the 'honor' to do that. Which, I suspect, goes right along with his cowardice in failing at his DUTY to at least try to save those kids. But, hey... That's the cops, right? The same damned cops that were pepper spraying, holding back, and threatening to arrest the PARENTS who wanted to go in there and save their kids -- since the cops weren't doing anything to stop it at the time. If it were me and if I'd failed out of that kind of cowardice, I'd have eaten my own revolver rather than live with the shame of it. But this bozo thinks he's some kind of hero? What a total POS. Every one of those cops that failed to act needs to be fired.

Nobody violated his "due process".. his staggering incompetence was recorded on video for everyone to see... If I failed to do my job and even one person died because of it, then I would expect to be fired on the spot. and if I wasn't fired then I would resign in shame. That being said however, he was not the only incompetent person in that terrible saga so due process needs to continue so that others can also be held accountable.

He's definitely not the only incompetent public official that was on the scene that day, but he's a civil servant who answers to an elected school board. They could easily make the argument that it was in the public interest to fire him. That would have eventually happened once the civil lawsuits determine how much of the liability for damages the school will be responsible for.

If you don't like the high risk please don't be a cop. It can save plenty of people. We want the officers to have the same courage as when they stop you for a speed ticket aswell as when they need to stop a criminal with a gun. Not just to pick up a pay check, being in the car, being in the office all day, and eating doughnuts with coffee.

Apparently Mr Arredondo is unwilling to accept responsibility for his failures in this incident. He & the board have had plenty of time to assure the facts were clear & due process was followed. He didn't have the good sense & grace to apologize & resign. Therefore the board had no reasonable option but to terminate him. If he persists in resisting by complaining & threatening legal action, he will be prolonging the grieving & healing for these families & this community. Time to stand up & be a man, ex-chief Arredondo. People will forgive just about any mistake if the responsibility is voluntarily accepted & sincere apologies are offered.

A non-performer on duty, and the one whose heart, mind, and soul were sold to selfishness at the crime scene that lasted for 77 minutes must go. Thank you, system, for the action taken, even when unreasonably at snail-pace. There are so many more there that need to answer to their authorities, like Pedro's chief for not ordering Pedro and team to act, the school principal for a lousy job, and other school authorities.

I didn't know, but I saw the school board meeting and it was stated he was fired by Webb County and demoted of his position in another town. When hired in Uvalde he must not have been screened throughly. Bad seed.
