V/H/S/85 (2023) FIRST TIME WATCHING!!! MOVIE REACTION!!! 

Was waiting for you reaction. You’re the most consistent VHS reactor on RU-vid. Everyone else either sticks to the first, and maaaaybe the second one. Seems they hear Viral sucked and abandon ship on the rest of the movies. I liked it a lot. Probably the third best one. But I’ve seen people very divided. Some people think it’s okay, like you. Others exaggerate and think it’s worse than Viral. And others put it on par with VHS2. But for me it’s definitely top 3. I hope we get more high profile directors like James Wan to do a little film with no restrictions. That Derrickson one was amazing for me.

If u didn’t realize as to why Ruth and her victims reanimated here’s why, The lake is supposed to represent river Styx in Greek mythology which made Achilles impenetrable so the victims survived. Ruth lived cause the kid shot Ruth with the squirt gun filled with the Styx water so she became impenetrable I’m commenting this before finishing the vid so if you realized this already then mb lol.

Not hating on anyone but the VHS franchise involves some serious paying attention and understanding to details. Many details in a lot of these films can be missed and make the segment trash when something doesn’t make sense. Some great examples are the segments Terror and Suicide bid where If one missed detail occurs it could throw the whole segment off

Fun fact the second segment is connected to the real life earthquake in mexico that happened on september 19 1985 and that creature at the end is mictlantecutli a god of the dead from aztec mythology.

The segments involving the tapes which show the future that was directed by Scott derrickson is in the same universe as the black phone movie

Oh man. You were bang on when you mentioned Scott Derrickson's directorial style. They even brought back "detective so and so" from sinister/black phone.

You’re not kidding about those original vhs camcorders. Also, we had boats throughout the 80s and did a lot of waterskiing. We actually had a set of skis that looked just like those in the film. Waterskiing is easy once you’re up out of the water.

The Earthquake one was unique & really well done.

Dreamkill is my favorite part of the movie. its unsettling audio & video making it feels like your watching a sniff flim. But the goth boy only seeing the future through video is just weird to me but it makes sense for plot twist

Amazing reaction Rob! My favorite segments are “No Wake/Ambrosia”, “God of Death”, and finally “Dreamkill”. And yeah, I have to agree with you there about segments being taped-over and sloshing without nothing in the middle for us the audience to take a break and ready for another segment. The whole idea for franchise is someone’s watching these disturbing tapes, but I guess producers want to thrown that overall wraparound idea out the window. It’s ok if you’re wanna try something different without being repetitive, but try to keep in the same formula. Look at “V/H/S/23” and “Demonetized”, we tried to do something different and hell, it fucking works while stick to same formula (Even through it’s just fan films, but my point still stands)! I was disappointed for wraparound, cause I thought we’re going to actual get answers for cult and tapes surrounding them! But nope, thrown a “made-for-TV documentary” in there and add alien “Rory” there! But overall, it’s ok film for me! I’ll just give 3 or 4 in my V/H/S series ranking!

Honestly the first time I enjoyed a film in this series since 2013’s VHS 2. DREAMKILL and God Of Death are the best segments, No Wake/Ambrosia combined into one is a decent segment, Total Copy is actually a for once enjoyable segment and the only one I hated was TKNOGD. I give it a 7.5/10

The girl that was shot in the face and had her jaw hanging down reminded me of AHS murder house when the ghost high schoolers came for tate and there was that one dudeghost that was shot exactly like that and was trying to talk when his jaw kept falling off 😂 anyways great reaction as usual! Brightened my day already!

I loved the static when you recorded over something and the tracking issues. The channel 2 on the blue screen the much memed "its 10 pm do you know where your kids are" service announcement-i haven't used VHS in years and i find myself missing its issues. The soft low bandwidth picture helps the horror here too. VHS was limited to about 240 Tv Lines of resolution (DVD has 540 in analong mesaure) so that gives you some idea what it was like watching movies in 1985 only on a small square screen. Id recommend for anyone if you have a 4:3 CRT watch this on there instead: connect your Roku through a HDMI to AV convertor and get the shudder app or VUDU. It feels more authentic that way.

Scott Derrickson did the last segment, which is why it’s so damn creepy. He did Sinister and The Black Phone. He really knows how to make some disturbing snuff scenes. That second one especially with the guy just being cut up and thrown around, really got under my skin and gives that “icky” feeling, like you shouldn’t be watching it. Plus it was great seeing Freddy Rodriguez (the detective) again. I’m a huge fan of the show Six Feet Under and he was one of my favorite characters on the show; actually part of the reason I’m going into the funeral service career myself.

The detective segment seems to pay homage to Manhunter. A movie back in the 80s that was the start of the Hannibal Lector movie franchise. I also want to say his style reminds me of the movie 8mm. Which is also good to watch.

The way the first one linked up later and the dreamkill segment really impressed me, definitely one of the least scariest VHS movies but i think it makes up for it in creative ideas and the tone, I also really enjoyed the earthquake one and the wrap around but the TknoGd one really bored me, and was way too preachy

So the detective was actor Freddy Rodriguez from Planet Terror and his partner was James Ransone from Sinister and Black Phone. Also I was going to ask if you're going to react to the new Eli Roth movie "Thanksgiving"? He made a fake movie trailer as part of the Grindhouse movies Planet Terror and Death Proof. He finally made the full length film. It's out Nov 17. PROST! 🥃😮

Like I always say the V/H/S movies are a mixed bag you may like them. You may only like one short film in them you never know. So you have to watch them all for yourself an find out. But people don't seem to understand this because they tell people to skip certain ones because they are bad or not good. They don't understand that its just their own personal opinion it says nothing about the movie. Along with the individual short films in the movie. Then on the audio commentary for this movie the ones that made the wrap around story. The lab said they wanted to also make it a short film that was being. Interrupted by the other short films so you whore right on that. Then the random thing in some of the short films was to mess with you. To make you question if the short film was over so it was intentional for that perpus. Then the ones behind the VHS movies said the next one will take place in outer space. One of the directors I think it was the one from the 2nd short film with the earth quake. Said why in outer space they said because its the 7th VHS movie. In other movie franchises the 7th movie always takes place in outer space. So we are going to outer space next.

Beta was definitely better quality, unfortunately, they were also expensive and video stores didn’t carry very many of them. VHS won in the end

Just watched it and....yeah I gotta say I was underwhelmed too. I really wanted to love it. The effects were great and they did an amazing job replicating the 80s aesthetic. But this one wasn't as great as VHS 1, 2 or 94 imo. It also doesn't help the tapes now rarely show anything else but supernatural themes. Edit: I still look forward to the next installment. They already stated it's going to be sci-fi themed. Excited to see what they do.

I REALLY wanted to like this one, the wraparound kept me engaged because I generally enjoy SCP stories and there was interesting conflict between the scientists, but the VR segment was not good, and seems like Scott Derrickson forgot what "found footage" is, he kinda just directed a normal movie that was only 20 minutes, with how constantly changing the camera angles were. You can't just stick a "Play ▶" button. But good news, another VHS is coming next year!

I'm sorry you couldn't enjoy it as much D: ...Maybe there were some references that you missed...but it's certainly still an entertaining video watching you react to all the stories :D ...Luckily in the comments I could read that they guided you quite well with everything... Personally, I liked it...I think they returned to certain roots of the first and second film and took on a very fast dynamic and cool aesthetic... reminds me of the Japanese horror film saga YAMI DOUGA... Its true that for me , the connecting story is still missing where someone is reacting to these disturbing VHS... but I can also see how we are now the ones who become participants in the film by watching these disturbing segments. Did you know that they already have another VHS planned for 2024? it will be alluding to the horror sci-fi genre... maybe that alien that is seen in the main story of VHS 85 has some cameo... I can’t stand the terrible color grading on this film. Like holy sh*t, you don’t have to make it practically sepia for it to look old. The quality and the grain and the fps and the aspect ratio and everything else already accomplish that.

I know it was intentional but the editing sucked at times in this. Like you for some of it I was like wtf is happening. It also is the ugliest looking movie by far to the point where I wasn’t able to tell what was going on sometimes. I didn’t hate any of the segments but I didn’t like any of them enough to say they stood out. This or Viral is last in the series for me. Viral at least had the Parallel Dimension segment. Big disappointment for me but with how this year is going for movies I’m not surprised.

I'm huge fan of this series but this one kinda disappointed me, i think after viral is the worst imo but the first story and last one was actually solid, the problem for me was the central story and the earthquake and techno god (i think those two are probably the worst of the entire saga for me)

The performance art one is the best one by a mile every other segment was proper shite.
