You showing how to install the RELEASE PEDAL is invaluable (at the 12:35 mark of the video.) Without your video, I had no clue how to do it. I found no manuals or any other video that showed how to reinstall the release pedal. Great job at providing overall instructions on how to disassemble, repair, and reassemble a Kenmore vacuum cleaner!
Thanks so much for this video! I am pathetic about fixing things but it was so easy. My handle release had fallen off along with power nozzle height adjusting front axle. I loved how you said just pop the handle release in with a screw driver. My deceased dad would be proud. Have a great day!
Damndest thing, had a cleaner remove the release handle pedal on my new Kenmore Hepa vacuum cleaner and couldn't figure out how to push it back into place around the axle. Your video showed me how to do this. T h a n k s!
I don't tighten the screws holding the power nozzle drive motor in place until the brush roll and belt are in place, then pull the motor back a bit to tension the belt before tightening the screws.
Still not sure I have the release pedal on right (looks ok), but I noticed the bottom part of the base nearby it is cracked off (whether it was before, don't know, but haven't had the metal tube stay up for a long time (perhaps even since I replaced "this center piece" that had broken years and years ago (before I discovered youtube)). Thought I'd check things out while replacing the bulb, so now I know I need to replace the bottom part which seems vital for the metal tube to stay up (and for the release pedal to work properly (though I could probably still survive without it.) Seems kind of flimsy though… wonder how much it costs… Also just replaced the broken connector part that snaps into the canister (with a new one without a broken clip), though not certain yet whether there are still any intermittent power issues… seems like there might be, but haven't figured out how to reproduce, just seems to hesitate once in a while.) But hey at least the bulb works now, hah. And the hose no longer falls out of the canister.
You mention you have spare parts. Do you have the height adjustment piece that you thought was broken on this one since it had duct tape over it? Or do you know the part #? I can't seem to find one. Thanks!
i was hoping id see it in this video but i didn't anyway got a kenmore intuition had to disassemble the powerhead well i can figure how to place the spring on the back left side that keeps the handle upright wonder if you can help
I am able to fix those burn connectors sometimes by cleaning and tinning the male portion. I'd like to see a video on repairing the PCB (LED) Light. I think it would be a cheap fix to just replace the semiconductors that have gone bad in the circuit. Otherwise Sears wants $75.85 for the PCB Light assembly.
Kevin Smith These lower-tier canisters don't use any PCBs. Are you talking about the headlight in the Powermate? Maybe you mean the indicator lights in the handle of the Intuition model?
Great video. I wish you had shown how to remove the motor. I had watched another one of your videos which was very helpful showing how to gain acccess to the motor compartment, but I can't figure out how to actually access the motor to replace it.
Interesting but I wonder how old this vacuum is. It looks pretty beat up. Of course I'm here hoping to find out how to fix my Kenmore. Not the same model though.
Hi! I have a Kenmore, but it's different than this one and I'm trying to figure out how to fix the tiny 'on/off' button inside. There's nothing wrong with the motor, it's just the small black button inside that is shot that activates the motor to turn on. It's a push button. I can't seem to even get the piece out of the machine. Help! Can I send you a photo somehow?
Thanks for the video, it has helped me a lot. I have a question: How did you remove the cover? I have a green Kenmore, the power switch stopped working, and I can't figure out how to get to it.
Thanks for this video! Can you tell please where the "spring assist" lives that keeps the handle release pedal working? I can't figure out how it gets installed. Thanks!!
On this Powermate in particular, the spring is actually molded into the plastic of the pedal itself. Sometimes they break away from the middle of the pedal, so you have to replace the pedal for it to work again.
Thanks for the reply sir! I was able to order the spring alone (KS725775), separate from the pedal so not sure that's the case for me. I'm handy but this has me baffled! My wife couldn't believe how long I sat trying to figure this one out!
Interesting! I’ve taken a couple apart for cleaning and troubleshooting, but readily admit there is a LOT I do not understand. I acquired an old Kenmore with very poor suction. I’d like to salvage the retractable cord mechanism, but could not see how to get the case open. Any advice or suggestions would be most appreciated. A video would be terrific! Thanks!
Often there are a pair of screws underneath the cord rewind pedal but it depends on the model. Generally there are four screws holding the motor cover to the lower half of the vacuum. Two will be near the lid hinges access with the lid open and the other two will be hiding under the cord rewind pedal, filter opening or the cubby for the pet powermate, depending on the model. Suggestion, once you have the motor cover off take detailed photos of the wiring so you get it back together right. Kenmore also generally put a little sticker somewhere around the motor with a wiring diagram. Take a photo of that, blow it up and print it for reference.
Good video. On mine, I've got intermittent power to the floor brush. I narrowed it down to the lower connector to the floor attachment. There's blackening on one side of the power connector. I was able to clean off the gunk on the male end, but not sure how to clean the female side. It's very small and hard to get at. Any hint on cleaning it?
You're talking about the lower wand, I think. Once the arcing starts in the connectors, they're toast. It would be best to replace the lower wand and short cord on the attachment. That's how I always repaired them.
Possibilities there include a broken connection in the plug/ power cord, worn contacts in the cord reel, worn switch, or worn out carbon brushes in the motor. To properly test the electrical parts, you do need to pull off the metal cover on the bottom to get to the wiring. I have another vid showing how to take the metal cover off.
Thanks for the info here. Question.. a friend of mine brought me a Kenmore power head all apart and it has three wires coming off the motor. White, red and black. It only has 2 wires coming into the head to power it. Normally you use black and white. What's the red wire hook to? Thanks.
I took my kenmore whispertone 12 amp vacuum apart to replace the belt. I can't figure how to get the roller brush back in. Do you have a video on that?
Hi I have a Progressive True Hepa model number 116.21714111. The motor seems to work but the light doesnt turn on and there is no suction when in floor mode. The rest of the machine is in good shape, no broken parts. What do you think it is?
It's as if the power nozzle isn't receiving voltage, like you have an electrical open somewhere. Is the motor in the nozzle running, or only the canister motor is running?
I also wish you had shown how to remove the motor. I have a Kenmore Progressive canister model 116.2781500. I have it apart but I don't see how to get the motor out.
Unfortunately, I don't have one of those models in my possession at the moment. The motor cartridge pries out of the main housing from the back. It's hard to explain in words, one of those things.
Thanks for great video. I am curious if any or most 2 prong hose, with on/off at the base are interchangable. I have a 116 model 24212400 and the base is toast:), but wonder if I can use the nozzle on another. The base said 'advanced allergen' but would a one with a 'hepa' base like in this video work. The nozzle and hose (2 prong) seem similar or the same? Any advice appreciated. Rick
#Suchfunstuff How did you repair that kenmore vac hose? Is it an easy or difficult repair? What are the Steps? On my Kenmore Vac the hose is split on the top by the handle same as the one in your video and at the bottom where it connects to the canister there are 5 small cracks, my Kenmore is power mate 116 model from 1987 I believe, any help would be very appreciative thank you.
+suchfunstuff Hi Thank you for replying back, I'm not sure of the rest of the full model number but I did look at the hose ends and their not folded in they do pull apart. I hope that helps.
suchfunstuff I've fooled around with a few vacuums but never saw that. Why not just use a 120v bulb? Anyway...thanks for your help. It's nice of you to take your time to answer everyone's questions. Thanks again!
I need to to replace Vacuum PowerMate Power Cord Part #: KC64EAWBZV06, but can't figure out how to get to it without breaking plastic. Can anyone point me to instructions for this? TIA!
Sandy, I'm doing the same thing. I got it apart using a flathead screwdriver to GENTLY pry open the tabbed areas where it snaps together, then pop the plastic off. It doesn't take much. My unit had indicators in a couple of spots that showed were to do this.
Jesus, are u doing this in your garage? If so, clean that place up. It's a mess. And are u being forced to make this video? You keep sighing like u don't want to be bothered to make it.
Jesus? Where?! Yes, in that garage is where the magic happened. I don't live there anymore, though. You'll have to wait for a little while until I can start making more lousy repair videos.
