VAGAN (as in "Vague") - What I Eat, My Diet/Nutrition Philosophy

To Summarize:
1. No rules/no -isms
2. Always try to improve your health, while also being mindful of sustainability
3. Take elements that you like from many diets
4. Reduce and substitute meat where you can. When you do eat meat, try to eat small, low on the food chain, and local
5. If you crave it, obey that responsibly. Moderation. Your body needs it. When you do eat meat, respect it. Don't waste it.
6. No shaming folks who aren't as far as you on your journey. Lead by example.
7. Eat a lot. Eat Clean
8. Variety: mix it up every week, what's seasonal, and what's fresh
9. If you crave junk, let it happen at a cheat meal once a week and don't feel guilty about it. Do it when you'll burn it.

@@qwerty123456789048 Sure:) Plants are low in nutritional value, because you need to consume wast amounts to get enough(not looking a the fact-sheet on the label of the plant, but what your body can uptain) - Then comes the problem with consuming alot of plants: They are also toxic - So you are putting a small dose of toxicins in your system as you try to stay healthy. They can cancel out each other - So if you try to work around this issue, by eating different plants, you can end up cancelling out the nutrients, but still get the toxcins. If you cook them, you can end up cooking out the nutrients - Endning up with a spinach that is no longer that toxic, but now has zero til little health benefits. But eat as you see fit for your life - I can't say I've seen anybody being healthy for a long period of time on a plantbased diet vs. the more meat based diet. I totally agree on eating 'real food', so if one decides to go 'mostly plant based' then don't go get a Beyond Burger and same goes for eating meat, eat organic, free range etc. respect the animals.
@mrpoxycat3967
@mrpoxycat3967 4 года назад
@Scott Stumpf If unprocessed most of what you list earlier is toxic, I didn't get that from the book/guy you talk about, don't know him? You need to process it alot before it can even just be consumed. But by all mean eat if you like it:) Longest lived what? Society? The average age? The most healthy nation? Who are you refeerring to?

When I started a vegan diet 5 year ago, a seasoned vegan told me, "If you want to eat something that isn't considered vegan, do it, but what matters is that you are trying to better yourself and this planet." I really wish more vegans had that mentality instead of shaming one another. Great message to convey, Phil.

@@geyster97531 I respectfully disagree, people are vegan for different reasons. There is always a different criteria for what someone considers "vegan". This type of categorization is why people like Phil does not like "isms". We should be accepting that people are making a difference rather than demanding perfection.
@strikerkays11
@strikerkays11 4 года назад
@@leftylum The definition of veganism is someone who does not eat or use animal products. Someone who eats a plant based diet for environmental or health reasons doesn't necessarily have an issue with animals being used for clothes (like fur coats). Making them, by definition, not necessarily vegan just based on their diet.

Frozen veggies make cooking so much easier. I can just dump some frozen peppers, onions or spinach or whatever in any dish i'm making and not have to worry about stuff going bad in my fridge. Also not having to cut up stuff is nice and a time saver when making food after work or when the kids want to eat NOW. Plus from what I've read frozen veggies actually have more vitamins because they can be picked when more ripe and had time to build up the vitamins. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Leave yourself open for options of food, I was at a point when I’m out and wanted something to eat I’d buy potato chips because that’s all the shop had for me, instead I could have had the nutritious salad sandwich with a little bit of mayonnaise and butter in it. “Isims” aren’t necessarily good for you in all ways.

My daily diet is mostly Vietnamese and Japanese food. Mostly rice and seafood and equal amounts of produce, but with steak, pork and chicken that complements as a side rather than is the main dish. The staple is the rice or noodles. It’s not restricted, like eat this or that on tuesday or whatever. And if works well for my family. But I’ll always splurge on a sumptuous medium-rare ribeye when I eat out at a nice restaurant. If I eat a massive calorie bomb, it’s got to be worth it.

I think diet can alter according to location. In China I'm totally vegan, I just don't trust where anything comes from. Again in a western city like London or Berlin there is enough variety to keep eating that way. But in rural places the odd back yard egg or honey, it doesn't cause much harm really.

Hey Phil! I agree, Vegans can be «pushy» and sometimes even shame others for doing something they consider being wrong (shame should not be the strategy). It's probably not the best way to address to subject but I think in a lot of cases it's coming from a good place (even though the way to share the info can be clumsy). I've been mostly plant base for over 2 years now (if I'm invited over for diner and they serve meat I will eat it, that sort of stuff). I remember at the start of my journey, I was shocked because most of the things that I'd been taught about diet were not as accurate as I thought they were (food recommendation/media/general knowledge on food). When I started to watch documentaries and read articles that were backed by credible sources (science literature) I felt like I had a message to share with people around me. This is probably what comes across the wrong way. I think people (vegans) feel like they need to share what they just learned with friends and family (It was the case for me). Then, when you don't get the openness you expected from the person you're sharing the info with (because maybe it's a completely new idea for them) that's when vegan's reaction can be negative. And that's simply because they had the openness to received that information and apply the changes in their habit consequentially. They wish other would do the same. Love your content Phil and I think it's great that you touch base on this sensitive topic in an elegant way!

In many developed nations were are not seeing multiplication but contraction. I don't disagree that it's likely for the better for two parents to have only one or two children and keep population semi stagnant. Unfortunately a large portion of the world doesn't agree. Regardless, I don't understand how eggs cost as much environmentally as they do 😂. I'm a technical person so I grasp most data, I just have a hard time imagining a cooked hen costs as much as the eggs it could produce in a lifetime.
