I took the plan b pill a few weeks ago and started bleeding/spotting on January 2 it’s been 10 days I took a pregnancy test on day 8 it was negative. How many days should I wait to see a doctor? I’m getting worried.

I took the plan b pill 4 weeks postpartum. I didn’t even get my first period yet since having my baby. 4 days after I took the plan b pill, I started bleeding heavily. The bleeding went on for 6 almost 7 days as if there was a period. I am not bleeding anymore but I feel like complete crap physically which makes me question if im pregnant . I wonder if the plan b made me have my period early. What do you think?

Hi Maryah, The pill can bring your period early or make it late. But it can also cause bleeding unrelated to your period. Given that most women will have their first period 4-6 weeks after baby, it’s possible this was your period. There’s no way to say if you are pregnant without doing a test - your tiredness could be from your recent pregnancy/ birth too. Hope you feel better soon. Right now am having bleeding that started a week after taking morning pill, started from 5sept this month and I don't know when it will stop but I generally do my normal menses around 17-25,it was my first time taking the pill.its a relief if this is just a side other than the other underlying health condition.otherwise you have exactly explained what's happening to me.iI find this helpful.

I took plan b and spotted 9 days, and then had a heavy period, for 5 days, and a little spotting after that. But not pregnant. Just side effects! My cycle is pretty messed up from taking it though 😭

Aww, but yes, these are some of the downsides from taking the emergency pill. Your cycle will return to normal. But you might want to think about a regular form of contraception or a condom so you don't use the emergency pill more often than recommended. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I’m not the same boat with u , I have been bleeding for Week now it’s heavy and goes to spot n I’m like omg this has never happened to me . I don’t think I will be taking this pill again . I’m just praying it goes away .

This is happening to me now. Took it in July and my cycle has been messed up ever since. I spotted for a week before my cycle this month. The last two months my gloss has been so heavy. I’ve never had periods like this before.

Hey doc, let me explain my situation, The moment happend right after her period was over ( it happened night between 27. and 28., start of her period was 23.) I thought i havent done anything, but to be sure i gave my partner pill "Escapel" after about 60h (she took 2 pills, i know it can get dangerous). 9 days after, she started bleeding. is there any chance baby could happen? Please, let me know your thoghts! Thanks !

I took the pill dec 22nd- two days before predicted ovulating cycle. I started bleeding the dec 28th.. it’s day 9 and i’m still bleeding heavy as if I was on day 2 of my cycle. no sign of slowing. if I didn’t take a plan b my next cycle should have started jan 7th.. it’s been 9 days of bleeding and cramping and i’m worried something might be wrong. there’s no way I could be pregnant right?

Hi Meg, Pregnancy seems unlikely if you took the pill before ovulation. This is probably an early period caused by the pill - watch this to learn more - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UurBf7X5CEk.html If the bleeding is getting heavier or you also have pain, you should your doctor to check there’s no other cause. I usually recommend a pregnancy test 2-3 weeks after you had sex as you can’t rely on bleeding to tell you if the pill worked or not. Thanks

took the pill on the 7th, bled a few days later. then i bled again starting around the 18th - 19th, but it is way more light. the blood is more of a spotting than a period, the color is more of a light brown

Hi Callisa, thanks for watching the video! You used the word clotting which I would love to clarify what you mean. Spotting or losing a little amount of blood after taking Plan B is common as it's the effect of the hormone on womb tissue. It should not be heavy enough to cause blood clots. The amount of bleeding does not specifically tell us about whether or not you are pregnant, though! You can take the pill correctly and have bleeding or no bleeding. So that's not a reliable sign. Bleeding can be a side effect of the pill, or from implantation of pregnancy or a symptom of an infection. Please do a pregnancy test and contact your health care provider if you are passing clots or having heavy bleeding. Best Wishes

Hello, thanks for watching! Even when taken as usual, it has an effectiveness rate of around 85%. For pills like postinor, post pill, take action etc which contain levonorgestrel, they may not work so well if they are taken on the day of ovulation or very close to that date. Also, you can't be ceryain of which time you ovulate, and the apps or dates just provide estimates. There is no way to tell the pill has not worked till you get your next period, so you will have to keep an eye on this. There is a chance that it has worked though, so it's better than taking nothing. Best Wishes

I would like to ask, I took morning after pill (Trust, yuzpe method) within 24 hrs after an unprotected intercourse. 10 days later, I started to see a sticky mucus with reddish to brownish vaginal discharge every time I wiped mine with a tissue. It has continued for almost 4 days now, and I'm having a panick attack. I'm having pregnancy scare and it's killing me. What can you say?

Took the emergency contraceptive pill on 2nd of August and the sex was actually on 1st of August(just 2 days after her last period). Albeit the pill was taken less than 24 hours though. Started bleeding after 5 days and bled for about 6 days. after that bleeding, no period came till date. Is that a sign she is pregnant?

Taking the pill soon after sex is a very good chance it will work so long as she's not ovulated already. Please get a pregnancy test 2-3 weeks after sex. All the best!

Doc, so you mean EC pill should be intake twice? after unprotected and before ovulation? What if from day6 unprotected sex occurs and few hrs later the pill was intake with between 12hrs regimen, youre saying that on the day before day 11-14, the pill should be take in again?

Hello doctor… I took the pill on the 8th of Jan and I was supposed to get my period today on the 21st of Jan…on the 16th of Jan I started having brown heavy bleeding till today… I don’t know if this is considered as a period? Hello Toka, The bleeding from 16th Jan could be either - early period or a pill side effect though the first is probably more likely. We can’t often tell which because your period can be affected by the time in your cycle that you took the pill - you can learn this from my latest video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ETMM18KTj8.html Also, though we expect the pill to cause bleeding in between periods that is light, or spotting lasting a short while, it could be heavier/ longer. Madam....I have a menstrual cycle of 28 days. My periods started on 13th august and ended by 17th august and had sex on 20th august and took ipill(ECP) after 6 hours. Hi Doc! I had a normal period from August 4-7th. I had unprotected sex on August 11th and didn’t take the plan b pill until August 12th at noon. I didnt bleed in between time but when my cycle did come which was on Sept 1st, I spotted with dark blood for 2 days only on and off. I have taken a pregnancy test which is negative. Is this normal? My periods are ALWAYS regular. What could this be?

I took plan b and 11 days after I had a light brown discharge that resembled light brown blood like when I get my period for the first time . but it was only that one time when I used the bathroom & it went away . Is that normal ? :(

Hi Ileana it can be a side effect of the pill as I explained on the video -you may have a bleed as a pill side effect but it can also affect your period. So keep watching for any more bleeding and do a pregnancy test if your period is delayed more than 7 days. Thanks

Hi Dr,my boyfriend and I recently had intercourse a day after my periods ended but the condom burst and I drank the morning after pill an hour after that and on 6th day from when I drank the pill I started bleeding not heavy but just drop by drop and the color is of the blood is darker or lemme say brownish,and that same day I took a pregnancy test and it was negative so should I be worried or?

In this video, I discuss signs to know the pill worked or not - please check it out here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3CvBdgzX_KE.html In my experience, it's good to use protection at ANY time, but the first one or two days after the period in MOST women is when they are less likely to get pregnant - (this could be different for those with short cycles and long periods, please note). But you took the pill which helps reduce pregnancy risk even more. I don't think you should worry as the bleeding effects could be as I explained in the video. I have a question so basically i had unprotected sex on tuesday took the pill 10-15 min after. Hi Madelina, thanks for asking! If you took the pill a few days before ovulation, and as soon as possible after sex; there is a good chance pregnancy is prevented. There is no way you can tell till your next period; or a pregnancy test - which will only be useful around 3 weeks after intercourse. What’s the brand name of the tablet? Your friend should see a Dr to check for infection and other changes in her womb that can cause bleeding. If it’s clear, it may be the pill effect - sometimes the bleeding settles after some weeks/months.

My girlfriend had bleeding mid cycle, that was a few days after taking emergency pills, at first she thought it was just spotting, but it got heavier she had to use napkin. Andriea, it can be a bit difficult to predict when the periods return to normal after the pill, though with most of us things should settle within the next cycle if you don’t use more than 1 pill in that cycle or other hormones and medicines that could affect the pill. Also, it’s good to be sure the irregular pattern is not caused by something else like an infection so please check with your Dr to chat about this a bit more and see if you need tests. Hi Suko, It’s not so simple to differentiate the cause of bleeding at this stage. The only way to tell is with a pregnancy test - you can do this as early as 2-3 weeks after you had sex. Hi Tanika, yes the new bleeding after taking the pill can be one of it's side effects. There's no set time for when to expect the bleeding effect from the pill, or how long it lasts. If your bleeding is getting heavier or you also have pain in your tummy or other symptoms, please see your doctor. But usually it will stop after a few days. Then you keep an eye on your cycle with a view to taking a pregnancy test about 2-3 weeks after sex. Best wishes.

Hi God’s Child The bleeding can be unpredictable after taking the pill. Most common you have a few days (about 1 week or less) light bleeding or spotting but some women May experience it for longer. Thanks for watching the video @PascalineKelechi No, the morning after pill is designed to DELAY ovulation. After you have ovulated, it is less likely to work. To a very small degree, the hormone in the MAP could slow down the sperm movement or reduce the likelihood of implantation by affecting the womb lining but these are very minor effects. Your best choice for contraception after ovulation is the Copper coil (IUCD). However, if all you have is the pill, PLEASE use it at any time of your cycle because - Ovulation can be unpredictable even in women with a regular cycle, and you may not have ovulated when you thought! It certainly is better than absolutely nothing. 😀 Best wishes
