@Jared Wiens to be fair...just because this moron principal cut the mic and told the kid to read the "pre approved" message doesn't make him a homophobe. We can't imagine what educators have to deal with when finding the balance between each of the students' and their parents' wishes. I'm confident that even with all the applause there were many angry parents calling this man's phone. Do not misunderstand me...I am not at all condoning the actions of this administrator or anyone like him. Not even close. But to call him a homophobe detracts from the other truths. It shuts down anyone you are attempting to convey your own truth and then we end up right where we currently are: both sides screaming accept me and I dont accept you. Nobody wants to be labeled anything.

Actually ahaha, it's not too common for valedictorians to memorize their speech. The convocation takes place at a busy time, so personally speaking, there's other things to tend to before the speech which comes last in your priorities. Most valedictorians simply don't care to memorize it, and they quickly throw together something to get through the ceremony. It was lucky that this valedictorian was devoted enough to his speech to memorize it in advance and take these precautions.

I graduated from Eastern in 2015. Tull was a terrible person and that doesn't seem to have changed. He wants nothing to do with his students and keeps away from them until faking support for those students who do only what they are told; any stepping out of line was not tolerated. Tull made that highschool a place of oppression that reminded us all that we were seen as just academic cattle. A lot of us talked about it, but there was nothing even those on the councils could do to change anything with him as Principle. Eastern Regional Highschool was not a supportive environment for me or anyone I knew that went there and it is painful to see that that hasn't changed since. They had a couple of good school counselors, but a broken system and an incompetent Principle in Tull.

@@islandsunset Thank you, I'm doing well now. After years of struggling with depression and trauma (not from my highschool experience but it wasn't exactly helpful in that regard) I'm in my final year of college and am a straight A student with a dual major, currently setting up internship programs for improving Neurodiversity in social welfare organizations. My college experience was rough, though was definitely a better environment. My college is now trying to make itself a better place for Neurodiversity so I get to help others go through at least a better college experience, and the university is really trying. Highschool failed me, I was a D- student then because of how dysfunctional my education was and now have plans for attending a dual-doc program at Columbia University next year. My growth was stunted and honestly, I do blame Tull and people like him, these could've been much better times where people could have flourished rather than trudging through 4 extremely important years of their lives and having to work things out as adults.
@irespondtotheads7453
@irespondtotheads7453 3 года назад
@@akondar That's a great idea. I'm currently making connections with NJ state-wide social welfare programs in establishing greater Neurodiversity and internship experience for psych & law students. Thanks for the push, I think I'll do that.

I am confident they wouldn't have approved if the speaker had included it in the speech he got approved. I am glad he was able to finish his speech.
