Valve stem replace Without tire removal *2 METHODS*

Stuff I used in the video:
Install kit I used $27: amzn.to/43Abm3f
100pk tr413 valve stems $20 : amzn.to/43AaCLr
Tire Bead Breaker approx $58: amzn.to/3TFVLKG
After Thoughts about the Video: I know some people will squirm at me using wd-40/PB Blaster. Years ago I actually did experiments with tire rubber and a bunch of chemicals. Mainly for tire shine applications to see what hurt and dry rotted rubber. I used brake fluid, wd-40, PB Blaster and a few other tire shine chemicals. I would apply these to the sidewall of a tire that sat in the sun. Applications were monthly for about 2 years then I started to loose interest as nothing was happening. I randomly applied it for around 5-6years. Nothing had any affect after even 5-6 years, so I gave up. I thought brake fluid would eat it for sure, but no.

I have a red Cattle dog and I'm an older dude he not only picks stuff up for me on hand commands like my seeing glasses or screwdriver he stands on his hind legs and gives it to me so I don't even have to bend over. This is my third healer and I won't have any other type of dog anymore I love them to death. He used to go out and get the newspaper for me but he started wanting to read it before he brought it back to me so I had to stop that. Rock on Dutch

That's awesome. My first healer was 100% deaf and was fully taught in sign language by me. My current dog is taught everything in both sign and spoken which has been very handy. I think they say the only dog that's as smart is the Border Collie but I have no experience.

@@sixtyfiveford I have a Cardigan Welsh Corgi that is exceptionally smart. Maybe not exceptional if you ask my sister, because she has the mother and 2 sister that are also very smart. My pup knows many things by sign, instead of spoken, because I taught him both. If he licks a paper plate clean, and I ask, "Are you done with that?" he will bring it to me to throw away. I tried to get him to throw them in the trash for me, but the first time the container moved when he jumped up leaning on it and he won't do that again. My bad for first impressions.

Used that tool to replace a torn valve stem on some guy's 4x4 out on a trail a month ago. Bystanders were impressed. Key to success is: 1) lube the tube (engine oil off the dipstick); 2) keep the tube end pressed firmly against the rim; 3) firmly tap the valve stem into the rim with a soft hammer (deadblow) or rubber mallet.

I did not realize there are more than one standard size for the diameter. Thank god the powder coater knew who to call. I always assumed there was one standard diameter size. Cool channel man keep up the good work sir👍👍👍👍

Useful video. Something i have started doing when repairing valve stems, or reseating beads, is to use Green Slime tire sealer as my lube. That's the liquid stuff you normally squeeze in through the valve stem (tire shops hate it!). But using it as lube for repairs means you don't make that big mess, yet you still get the sealing effect where you most likely need it (bead or valve). I'm not sure if it would be slippy enough for your two-piece tool, but in the manual method, you could put a few drops on the mushroom just before it finally pops into place. Cheers!
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 2 месяца назад
I like the way you think. I break out the slime all the time on steel rims that have some pitting to ensure I have a good bead seat.

Good tip on the rubber type. I'll pay attention next time I buy some.. I started keeping mine in a sealed container because they were drying out and tear when I installed them. I also buy in bulk but I don't use enough to keep a fresh supply. AND,, once a dog knows to pick up things you drop,, they seem anxious to help.. A smart, disciplined dog is a happy dog..
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 2 месяца назад
I guess they had a recall back in 2005ish that affected millions of valve stems. Since then people have been selling them unknowingly or intentionally to make lost profits back. That's what I got here. I've never had an issue with failing valve stems.

@@sixtyfiveford That makes sense,, I always look for the bargain and I bought a bag on EBay,, I thought the oil was just drying out before I installed them.. I lost a tire and wheel a few months back from a leaky stem. I was on a mountain road with no place to pullover so I had to drive almost 20 miles on what was left oi the rim.. All due to a 50 cent part... Thanks for the info!!!

20 years ago I had three of four stems fail on my VW camper. They were less than a year old and I had my local tire shop install new tries and stuff back then. When I brought them in for replacement, they told me they had a bad batch of stems they had bought in bulk and were swapping out dozens of them for customers. I am guessing it was the same issue you spoke of in the video. Never knew you could replace stems without breaking the bead. Will try this next time. Thanks for the tip.

@emmettturner9452

Some time around/before 2007 there was a huge recall fiasco with rotting valve stems. All the major brands had switched to a supplier with a bad rubber formula, lacking a necessary stabilizer or plasticizer or anti-oxidant or something. They were failing in months, just like yours. Unfortunately they had already made hundreds of millions with the faulty formula and they were already everywhere in the supply chain. Almost all brands were using their faulty stems. Even though the good brands quickly switched and followed the recall, there were still hundreds of millions of stems that have been making their way out of China through unscrupulous sellers ever since. There’s a good chance the bag of bad stems you have came from these. I first learned of it in 2008 but I think the recall was in 2007 or earlier. Most of the bad valve stems are probably from a bit earlier, like 2005/2006, but unscrupulous vendors would repackage them to make them appear newer.

You once did a video on power tool battery adapters like putting dewalt batteries on ryobi etc. But ive never seen a adapter for kobalt so my question is will kobalt fit the Flex tools or vise versey? They are both 24v tools

There are some guys custom 3D printing adapters for things like this. A quick Google search shows this one: Look what I found on Etsy: www.etsy.com/listing/1485327469/kobalt-24v-max-low-profile-battery?ref=share_v4_lx

@@dannycolemire2652 I've never tried the custom 3D printed ones but they should work the same. They're little rougher/cruder because they're made one at a time.

Why not use lube for inserting the valve stem with manual method?
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 2 месяца назад
Lube makes it want to pop back out. Very frustrating. It would probably benefit from lube once you had it about 75% in.

I know someone who made a mental guide sleeve instead of the plastic One you should try it and make a video on it

I did make a metal one. It works okay and would be fine in a pinch. I did have it in the video but decided not to talk about it because the plastic one honestly worked better.

I just bought lots of German standard valve stems I don't know what to do with them?
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford Месяц назад
Dang. I've had them start showing cracks in as little as 3 months and that's in the winter. So you could always stick one outside in the sun and see how it fares. Mine said "German Standard" I got the tr413 and the tr414 and both do it. I do recall when I just barely bought my latest ones was another one they said German.. something else but it wasn't "standard". So there could be a different one that's okay.
