Thanks, Luke. You are right. I need to learn how to do a multitude of things if I wish to own any vehicle. No more whining. Only learning will save me.

I can't put air in my wheelbarrow tire. I searched for a DIY video and glad I watched yours. Will go now to look for snake. Loved seeing the starter fluid, folks, don't try this at home trick. I'd heard about it before! Thank you!!

+Pita M Glad the video helped. I had a friend do the starter fluid trick, I showed him a number of years ago. Well to say the least it burned his face his eyebrows hair and eyelashes, really got them good. I dedicated the video to him. Thanks for dropping by and saying I sure appreciate hearing from you. Stay in touch. Happy trails Luke

I changed a stem valve in the most improvised way possible. I used a 4x4 piece of wood to put on the edge of the tyre. Then I used my Jeep to run over the 4x4 piece off wood to push down the tyre and break the bead. I then took the valve stem and lubricated it with bar and chain oil and pulled it through the hole with a padded pair of pliers. Using bar and chain oil again, I lubricated the edge of the tyre and started inflating it until the bead was set. I know, it sounds very loser, and very improvised. But it worked.

That tool is a 'fishing tool' most commonly bought and used for pulling the valve on a tube into place after installing the tire on wheel.

I've seen people use the ether trick for seating the beads. Now that I don't work a service truck and have Murphy's Oil Soap handy, I use dawn and with very little coaxing on most tires the beads catch and seat.

More good stuff! If you don’t have starter fluid or you haven’t paid your life insurance premium, a solution of dish washing soap (you pick the fragrance) will help seal a tire bead too. To make the valve stem go on easier, I’d spit on it.

Not all valve stems are created equal! All the epdm "pull in" versions are only rated for 65psi. If you have a tire that needs more than that, you should get a "bolt-in" version rated for that tire pressure. You can also get an air-pressure valve that is full port that will allow enough air through to seat that bead without having to resort to using flammable vapors. Just some thoughts! ;)

Great video. Also a safer way to set a bead on a tire is run a good line of grease around the bead and run a wrachet strap around the tire good and tight. Works more times then not and it's alot safer. God bless.

Always use lube. On both the stem and the bead. Cut the stem on the outside where you can see, then push it through the rim. Or skip the knife all together and grab the stem with a vise grip and tear the stem in half. Then push the remainder through the rim.

I bought a big box of valve stem caps and have never regretted it. They're always getting lost and misplaced and I bought a box of several hundred for under 10 bucks online. A little internet shopping can also get you cores and stems very inexpensively.

Actually, plan B would be to put a ratchet strap around the tire, which would probably get it. But starter fluid is more fun!

Instead of Plan B you can also put a ratchet strap around the tire. It squeezes the tire tight to the rim. Then just hit it with some air and you will see and hear the bead seat. It doesn't take much air. Then take off the strap and finish blowing up the tire. PLAN B works very well too.

OMG!! Just discovered the tire on my new travel trailer is flat. Filled it up but could hear it was losing air. It seems the rubber on the valve stem has cracked and allowing air to escape. Bought the trailer several years ago but circumstances prevented me from taking the trailer home. And as I am new to this, did not know that when you store a trailer over time, the tires should be covered. And was not told by the business that I bought and stored the trailer at that this could be a problem. In fact, almost thought that my new tires had been replaced with old used tires by some sly devil. Definitely look like they have many km on them but I did look online and learned that remaining stationary for any length of time is hard on tires. But this combined with my missing battery, wheel chocks, etc still makes me wonder. But I digress. Am on my own and my trailer is trapped in the back yard. Is there any other way to,fix the cracked rubber stem?

Just put new ones in. Really not a way to repair old ones and they’re so cheap. The learning curve on little things is sometimes a big deal. That’s why I made this channel, when I look back over the years of how I learned a lot of the things I know it cost me a lot of money to figure it out. Of course I’m still learning, but figured I might as well share what I know with other people, so it doesn’t have to cost them that much. May your tires always stay inflated. Luke
