In this video I cover my travel costs for the first quarter of 2024. January, February, and March cost me $229.41 in gas for the 449 miles driven. I also include a small rant on social media impact on our public lands.
Thank you for being here.
*My name is Brian. I started living full time in a self built camper van in 2014 in my hometown of San Diego, CA. I hit the road full-time in 2015 to pursue seasonal work and travel around the U.S. I find free camping on public land and enjoy photography, hiking, biking, and kayaking in nature. Join me on my adventures.
Thanks for watching!

Brian, I so appreciate your comments on our public lands, over use, too much publicity on social media. You express your views and reasoning so well and I absolutely agree!

I am amazed with the sense of entitlement that certain viewers feel should be afforded them. It is certainly not your job to provide any information whatsoever of where you are, what you are doing or anything else for that matter. You provide awesome content and more than enough information about the incredible places you visit.and off-grid living. Sadly, there will always be naysayers and armchair critics. Keep on doing what you are doing! There are many of us who appreciate all that you offer and share with us without needing to know information that is not our business, nor should it be!! :).

Too many entitled viewers and only getting worse, on all channels that I watch. Not only entitled, but controlling. 'You should be doing this'? that and everything you can imagine. Unbelievable some statements.

Hello Brian. My first career was in the auto business on the service side. In all my years I don't think I have ever seen a windshield crack that wasn't caused by a rock chip. If you have glass coverage on your insurance policy turn in the claim. Most insurance companies to do not count glass as a claim. Some rock chips are tiny but the way to find them is you take a pen and start from one end of the crack and lightly trace the line. The pen will skip when you hit the rock chip. You are so correct for not sharing your location. I would think that would be an absolute for all RU-vidrs. The exception might be a review of a paid RV park and only after they have left. Thanks again for sharing.

Very good video Brian. Just my two cents worth.... I had the extreme honor of working as a Law Enforcement Ranger for the National Park Service for several years. During my time I worked at three separate highly visited units. I saw and did it all, and can confirm your statements about crazy people calling up and reporting things that were just so outrageous and untrue bit that had to be investigated. If I was dispatched to such a call I had no choice but to go and figure things out. However, when people came up to me and started to report something that just did not add up or make any sense, I absolutely advised them that if they were giving me false information that I was going to arrest them because that actually is a Federal charge. That cut down on some of them but there are some very mentally ill people out there who have real issues that cause problems for innocent and really good people. It's a shame but that's the way it is.

Social media is a double edged sword, it shows you a great vacation spot, then ruins it at the same time. I find myself watching too many videos of a place I am going to visit to the point I feel like I have already been there when I arrive. Kind of takes away the fun exploring and discovering it for yourself. "Call some place paradise, kiss it goodbye"

I’ve been on the road full time for 8 years. I’ve watched more and more places trashed and closed and now I’m forced to either buy my own property or stay in RV parks. Lowlifes have ruined the experience.

Hey Brian, your “rant” was very justified. Maybe in your videos include each time you’re cleaning up camp, before and after you’re done using it. I think it’s important to show people/be a positive influence on camp edict and remind people to also be respectful of nature and just be a good person

You have EVERY right to maintain your privacy. You do not owe us your privacy and camping on the exact grains of sand that you did will not enhance our camping experience. You share so many really useful things; places to go, things to do, how to build and repair things, how to clean your campsite on arrival and on exit, and so much more. Share what you are comfortable with and we can mind our own business about the rest. Thank you for all you do for so many years; from carving spoons, to playing the flute, to making a meal and more. It is noted and appreciated.

I appreciate you not disclosing where you are. I've experienced going back to a once secluded spot and having it trashed. Ioverlander is bad for this. Yes it can be helpful but last year I went to a little campsite and it was overflowing with campers treating the place like their personal garbage can and party zone. I found a place farther in. A local came by and told me that place used to be a quiet little fishing spot until it was posted. There is a lake near where I live that is uniquely beautiful. It was posted on travel blogs and it was so over run and trashed it got shut down for awhile. Another time I told some people where a beautiful creek canyon hike was. They went and had a rave there. I don't have a channel this was just word of mouth. Places are more and more crowded and quiet seclusion in pretty places is harder to find everywhere. So yeah...shhhh.

I know one RU-vidr, who was on a cruise ship and he was posting videos. He inadvertently said his cabin number, fans of his RU-vid channel showed up unexpectedly to his cabin! I just recently started watching you because one of your videos popped up on my RU-vid feed. Glad you’re sharing your cost. I plan to go part time after I retire in a van.

I’m a winter desert camper. Something I don’t understand is the need some people have to “get to town” or “get out” during or immediately after a winter rain and tear up the campsites, trails, and roads doing it. Especially full time and long term campers. Please stop this destructive panic and fear habit. Get the forecast, have a few day’s supplies on hand, and stay put for a couple days.

Thank you for your clarifications. Normally, if you do a bit of listening and thinking it is not difficult to know the general area you are camping in. If you know maps, highways and towns, it can be done. Not to find you, but to know the places you stay. Your correct not to give your GPS location, it will only be a problem. If you do the work, research, you can find all good places to camp. One piece of advice you give well is to drive less, stay more.
