Cracks in tomatoes happen from inconsistent watering as well. They swell if watered more than normal and crack.

As noted in other comments, tomato cracking mostly will come from too much water. A lot of times this will happen after a heavy rain. Try to remember if you've had a lot of rain recently before you picked them in Cali( I know you dont get a lot of rain, but when you do, it's a lot!) :) I also noticed you said you picked them while green or lightly coloured last year. What you can do is a process called topping the plant. Just cut the top growing leaves and this will stop the upward vegetative growth and all the energy will go into the fruit production and can speed up the ripening process. We do this in Canada since we can get our first frosts in early October, so we top it a few weeks before the first expected frost :)

I don't have any outdoor garden, and I'm afraid that veggies won't grow well on my window or balcony. So I started with herbs (sage and thyme). Now I'm watching your videos and drinking my first tea with herbs grown by my own, and OMG THIS IS SO GOOD. When I was young I used to spend a lot of time at the countryside with my parents, and we had quite a big garden there, and now I'm reminiscing on those times... Feels so special. And... Thanks a lot for your videos, Carrie! I'm always waiting for new ones. Btw, I bake bread sooo often :D Just really love how it smells and tastes

LOVE THIS!!! i grew up making homemade bread with my grandma:) they are wheat farmers so we use fresh ground whole wheat flower. its impeccable and literally can't be beat

I am SO grateful you shared your home made pesticide and the mulch tip, my husband and I are on our 2nd season with a produce garden and every tip helps! :) We also have a rain water harvester which has been incredible, (we live In Oregon so no shortage of rain) so we love to give our garden the most natural nourishment. ❤️

I'm not sure if you know this tip or not, new to you channel. Try 2 tablespoons of Epsom salt per gallon of water on your tomatoes and peppers when you water them. You will get more blooms, and stronger roots, which stronger roots helps against root pests. The cracks can be from inconsistent watering and even if you suddenly get lots of rain. Also certain varieties crack easier, Heirlooms suck as Brandy wine, or black krim crack very easy, Hybrids such as Early girl still can crack, but not as easy. I like Heirlooms for flavor, so I learn to live with some cracking.

Hi!! You inspired me to start my first garden in this back yard and it is sooo fulfilling. In my country (Romania, Europe) it is pretty usual to have a garden but now having all this time on hand during spring - it was perfect timing to start one of my own! We are growing tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplans, red pepper, onion, leek, salad (3 different kinds), basil, thyme and celery! Thank you so much for the kickstart! P. I'm loving the garden update! I've been so inspired by you that I've decided to go full in this year on my garden plans. I just placed 13 dozen seedlings in egg cartons in my house lol. I've been makeing bread since I was a child! Here in Belgium bread is pretty important and not the same as in the rest of the world (except for france maybe!) I just made 'pistolets' this weekend, here's a recepy (perfect for a sunday brunch!) Ingredients for 15 pistolets: - 500 gr flour - 22 gr of fresh yeast OR 11gr dry yeast - 300 ml roomtemp water - 50 gr of roomtemp butter (the good kind) - 2 teaspoons sugar - 10 gr salt 1) Delute the yeast in the water. Put all the ingrediens together and stard to knead for 15 min (adding flower on the oudside can help if it is too sticky) 2) Set aside for 40min to rise, put a towel on top 3) Kneed a little more, make a ball and let it rise fot 10 more minutes 4) Devide into part of 50 gr, make little balls by folding them to the inside (hope this makes sence) 5) They need to rise again for 40min (or until they dubbeld in size) 6) Bake on 220 C for 22 min 7) When they come out of the oven, paint on some water I really hope you try this :) 15 is a lot for 2, just saying :p (I translated this for you, so if it's not all writen the right way, I'm sorry!)

So many great tips!! I have also been gardening and making bread a lot these days. I think I’ll try the natural pesticide recipe - my veggies always have a never ending supply of bugs on them haha. I read it’s good to let your bread cool down for at least an hour as it continues “cooking” after coming out of the oven. Looking forward to your next vid!

I love baking bread! I use a different book, by Bonnie O’Hara, which I love. In addition to artisanal breads it has sweeter recipes such as cinnamon rolls and cinnamon sugar swirl bread. But I just bought the book you use and can’t wait to get baking!

My tomatoes last year cracked too! Doing further research it looks like going too far in between waterings can cause that, so I mulched the top of my soil this year and haven't had any problems...yet! We will see though 👩‍🌾😀🌿🌻 love all your content! Please make more garden harvesting videos!!!

Correct, I find mine do if all of a sudden we get lots of rain also. It consistent watering. Mulch may help, good tip. I do know my Heirloom varieties crack much easier than the hybrids do.

This year: lettuce, spinach, rocket, potatoes, courgettes, broad beans, carrots, radish, tomatoes, strawberries, some herbs. Starting some kale now! And have one pepper plant I hope survives, has been had to get plants/seeds during lockdown here in London! We also have some rhubarb, a fig tree and an apple tree, but I don’t do anything to them so don’t count them haha 😂

Are the beetle larva at the beginning of the video really Pest ? Some beetle larva are very beneficial for the garden. They don’t eat vegetable roots but help making compost. But difficult to recognize here

I would give it a try! I really don’t see why not. Test out a little spot in your plant first, like a small leaf just in case!

honestly I really don't see why not! chili flake seasoning should work good because they can soak and then they can be drained.

This may be a silly question..... Will the chilli peppers being in the mix make produce spicy? (I am so weak when it comes to spice, too much black pepper is spicy 🤣🙃)
