I bought one from Harbor freight, Union safe company is the maker. It also comes with a 3ft steel cable which I anchored to the back seat bolts and the box is secured to the back of the back seat. The great thing is I can flip the back seat down and comfortably place my gun in the trunk without anyone noticing it.

I have the SnapSafe XL and a benefit to it is they sell them in pairs with same key so you can put the in both his and hers cars. I bought a single first. Later gave it to my son and bought the pair. Since then I've given several sets away at Christmas time to family and friends. They're perfect for secret Santa gifts for coworkers. Mine is never used to keep a gun in my car except when I need to go somewhere I need to temporarily store my carry gun, like courthouses, federal buildings, the airport when flying, etc. One tip is not to wait until you get to a busy parking lot to begin taking off your carry gun to store it. Find an out of the way spot before you get there so no prying eyes see you store it.

Thanks for the video, it's a nice demonstration. I switched from keyed to combination this way all the boxes in all our vehicles can be accessed. I was having a hard time finding keyed alike boxes and changing the locks ended up costing more than the initial box.

Excellent video, Bryan. I've had a small "safe" in my vehicle for years, it fits under the seat and is cable locked to the seat frame. Court houses frown on civilians carrying firearms inside.. Stay safe.

I'm getting one of these now. On top of the passenger seat covered with a T-Shirt is not a good idea. Also unaware that firearm must be unloaded near a Gov building if in vehicle. Thanks very informative video.

Bryan, your statement that a vehicle is not a gun safe is very true! Never had a firearm stolen from vehicle but I have had windows broken twice and my car stolen from my apartment's "secure" parking space.

I have the SnapSafe Lockboxes "2 keyed alike" so both cars have a lockbox and the key on my ring works with both. A great option for the rare occasion when you have to briefly leave your sidearm in the car (like visiting some court houses).

We use the American Security PS1208EZ. It is way stronger than the two you showed and I can fit more than one pistol in it. So my wife and I can both secure our pistols in the car if necessary.

The Snap Safe looks exactly like the one I got from Harbor Freight, which lists theirs as being made from 15 gauge steel. Also, the HF safe has a regular flat key lock, and I replaced mine with a barrel-key lock. The flat key lock opens in a couple seconds with a Locksmith's squiggly tool. That's why I changed it. I also keep my cable wrapped up in the frame underneath the driver's seat so it's very difficult to get anything under the seat to cut the cable.

Hi Brian. I have the consolevault in my. Fill the place in my center console. Installs with two bolts. Seems pretty secure. Have you checked them out. I only use when I cannot carry like federal building. Be well.

No guns permitted inside not doing business there if the check for guns. Otherwise no crime no discovery. It will take a very long time to open one of those safes with a screwdriver. Also the round key lock is more secure and one can replace the flat lock with the round found at a hardware store.

“Can” you? Probably. Is it legal in Oregon? I have no idea. And, even if I did give you an answer, it would be foolish to take legal advice from anybody on RU-vid.

Not big enough. I never take my loaded weapon out of its holster unless I'm going to immediately unload it and store it away. Whenever I'm out and about and get out of my vehicle to go into a gun-free facility like the Post Office or a courthouse, I remove my holster (IWB) along with my loaded weapon inside of it. In some places where cartridges might be considered as "explosives" or "explosive material" or whatever, I also remove my spare magazine(s) from my belt or pockets or whatever. Plus, whenever all of that occurs, I never unload my weapon, i.e., the chambered round, before leaving it in my vehicle to enter the facility and then have to reload it after getting back into my vehicle. There's to much risk for an accidental discharge. I might, however, remove the magazine from the weapon (while the weapon is still in the holster) and store it elsewhere in my vehicle. I would also never put a loaded, upholstered weapon in any container, especially one that is lined with moveable material, that requires me to put the weapon, and possibly the moveable trigger, under pressure to get it closed. There has to be another way. Edit: I suppose you could take one or both pieces of foam out of it or replace the foam with something thinner to make for enough space for a holstered pistol.

@richardelliott9511

It has been said that locks are meant to keep honest people honest. And as Brian said any lock can be overcome with enough time and the right tools. With that being said the more difficult you make it for thief the safer you are. Also check your local laws, in my state it is illegal to leave a handgun in an unattended car and when being transported they must be locked and in a separate compartment from the occupants, and in an open vehicle, like my van, they must be in a locked box which is attatched to the vehicle. This type of lock box is perfect for that requirement. Be safe out there.
@SurvivalOnPurpose

So in your state you can’t carry a handgun on your person? Because it is absolutely useless locked up in a box.

Why not lock it in the glove compartment?
@SurvivalOnPurpose

because A) that is the absolute first place a thief will look and B) a .99 cent screwdriver will pop a glove compartment open in about 1/2 a second. Heck, a .50 cent screwdriver.

Cant a person just take the box. Check out the Lock pickin lawyer on RU-vid he would be inside the box in seconds. The best way to protect your gun so it can protect you is to have it on ya. Im not bashin you or your vid knife bro. I dont wanna sound negative. Im just sayin gun safes in all shapes&sizes to me seem pointless. Mainly cuz they keep ya from your gun when ya need it the most&none that ive seen stop theives wantin to steal.

Smash and grab car thieves aren't likely to carry a bolt cutter. By law I can't carry a gun to the post office, jury duty, an emergency room,etc....
@SurvivalOnPurpose

I sometimes have to go into courthouses to conduct business and some of them have metal detectors and prohibit firearms. So it is not pointless for me and many other people. And I am pretty sure the lock picking lawyer ain’t gonna steal my gun ,-)

@@dionpage7948 if they have time perhaps. A smash and grab as he described probably not. So it might work in the post office parking lot it's an option. In a motel parking lot over night perhaps not.
