I recently quit my job, in part, because my supervisor was the exact kind of person this show was made for. A middle-aged, pseudo-pagan, fake edgy, wannabe cool mom, who took more vacation and "sick" time than all my previous supervisors combined, did very little actual work, yet also acted like a petty dictator. She even did her own Joffrey Baratheon on me with her own "I am the king!" moment. She was also the kind of person who unironically liked the live action Little Mermaid, Elementals, and the Barbie movie.
@@earlydoomer346 Yep, still don't regret it. There were a few more reasons for me quitting, but I finally got sick of it when they called be "insubordinate", which I have never been called before at any jobs. In fact, not to toot my own horn, but I was often one of the best employees. So yeah, I was done, I only wish I could have told both my supervisors all my problems with them.
@@premium_chicken_nuggy Thanks. I'm still looking for a new job, but it's actually been kind of nice to be able to relax and not worry about my supervisor or the very spoiled children.
Mindy Kaling is like the Disney villains like Ursula she gives you an adult series with your favorite characters in it but we don't trade it she destroys what you like in a franchise the characters the story and makes a self insert of her- even for this mocking the franchise and these fans.
Rotten Tomatoes (paid) critics rating is around 39%. I wouldn't trust that site even for the part of audience reviews. The show's rated 1.6/10 on IMDb. In comparison: Disaster Movie is 1.9/10.
i honestly think this show is amazing. your inability to laugh at your self is why you dont think its funny. finally something i can anjoy while laughing at other peoples expense, instead of my own.
Correct. Mindy Kaling has been wallowing in money all her life. Oh, and btw, Velma: "All rich people are evil." Also Velma: "I'd be a Communist if it weren't for the fact that (Insert lame joke here)..." So, Velma admires a political system which in the slightly over 100 years since its inception has led to famines, ethnic cleansing/ genocide, a whole laundry list of human rights violations, a higher civilian death toll than the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and every major 20th century war COMBINED, and the rises to power of some of the most brutal and bloodthirsty dictators in the history of mankind, yet she then has the gall to claim that rich people are evil? Pot, meet kettle.
@Adamguy2003 "that was not real comunisem " is what they say and it pisses me of since I come from a an ex communist country , yes capitalism and democracy may not be the best systems, but it's the best we got
Ironically, the animation alone is actually pretty good despite what Reaper says. I thought the animation in season 2, really stepped up it's game here compared to Season 1. Whenever it goes the fluidity route, it's visually striking. I also think the title cards they use for Velma were very creative... Can't fathom I'm actually saying something positive about Velma.
@@91morientesyeah I never liked her character in The Office as she was the most annoying one. I wanted more of that Dwight action instead of her character.
@@mauriceisaac3646Even worse is that Norville’s Dad is Shaggy, when Shaggy is supposed to be a peer to the Mystery Team. Plus, in the words of Deadpool , “Where is Scooby?”
Goes for most characters in this shitshow, tbh. There's like a 85% POC ratio in it, while it's marketed for an audience of probably more than 80% whites...
A sign of bad fanfiction is when your self insert character has the most popular girl simp for your character. Ensuring everything you do to that character would result in that character referring to your self insert as their soul mate. First I'm not starfire and now this.
@@cynicalperson161 EXACTLY! but it was more that them liking her, they both obsessed over her in season 1. Just for both of them to move on because the plot demanded it, just like how Velma gets her information. Then Norville stopped the serial killer, and Fred's dad was the first person to realize who the killer was. Yet Norville gets traumatized and no one thanked him for stopping Victoria. While Velma gets instant popularity and recognition.
If you ever think to yourself "I'm not good enough to write a story" just remember that this show exists. You can write a story about a potato going round on a murder spree because he hates carrots and IT WOULD BE INFINITELY MORE FUNNY!
well, show show was a big success...its why it was only signed for one season...and after it aired, it did so good. it got a second season. just shows you are a hipster that likes niche things, and says that other things people like are bad. and if i said it onece, ive said it a million times. this show is more successful than you will ever be.
The thing with Velma and Norville in season 1. Was that Velma apparently liked going after people who think they are too good for her. Once Norville was absolutely done with Velma, because she crossed the line for the 100th time. So she listened to all of his voice mail that she hadn't listened to in 2 years, and apparently she fell in love with how much praise she got from him. Which is why she started falling for him at the end of season 1. She didn't lie, but she is very narcissistic
when people reviewing shows and calling them bad, dont have the mental fortitude and EQ to even comprehend and digest the media they are reviewing.... most the .... every single person who reviews this show, watched two episodes, and skipped through ot slept through it, or didnt watch it. ""they make fun of his tiny dick multiple times in every episode" no that was in like two episodes, and more or less never brought up again... but, even if they did, i thought run on gags like this is why everybody loves southpark and all the other adult animated shows.....
Daphne's moms in season 1 were constantly going about how terrible they are. They shot and arrested Fred, who didn't confess to anything and didn't have a weapon on him. Allowed their prime suspect in a murder investigation to go off to prove their innocence, and went behind the sheriffs back to support Velma. Daphne's moms in season 2. They started campaigning to become sheriff before they could even confirm the Sheriff was dead and they never even looked for his body. Then they get mad at the people who supported them for not doing enough for them to become Sheriff.
I love the fact they took an old beloved show/franchise and just completely removed everything good about it. Just .... why? It's like sanctioned corporate stupidity just to annoy people and make fans of the old show angry.
Another youtuber said it well. Velma feels like it was made by Mindy for Mindy and her close friends. Because the references in this show are so bad, that they feel like in jokes. Jokes that people only get if they were there in the writing room. Then season 1 Velma had everyone simping for her, just for everyone to kind of move on suddenly. Because they want to focus on Velma and Daphne being soul mates, when the relationship is more toxic then the waste Mr. burns dumps into Springfield lake.
@@user-lo7yi4pg3z mjtanner. She basically said and it makes sense that most of the jokes feel like it's, "in Jokes" that Mindy gets. Like I have no idea who " a crowd funder with a nasally voice" is supposed to reference.
This show was commissioned as two seasons from the start, no matter how hard the first bombed, the second would have to come out as required by contractual obligations
You think about Mindy’s character in The Office, and she was vapid, utterly self-centered and manipulative. Like telling a guy she was pregnant in order to get a date.
yeah, thats hilarious situational comedy. the sad reality is, this show is the same as "the good old days" but, everybody puckerd heir butt up and started getting offended by everything, and cant find things funny... the threat of beating your wife was at one point PEAK TV entertainment. now, we cant laugh at anybodys expense. which mean,s jerry seinfeld comedy is the only acceptable form of comedy "hey guys, did you watch this new TV show, it was offensive and didnt wanna laugh at the jokes, SO I TURNED THE TV OFF"
I had no idea a second season was created. Geez, Reaper we’ve all heard of “taking one for the team” but what you’re doing is going well beyond that service 👍
I remember the original Thorn, from the Hex Girls - what they did with her character design is an insult- ok, the character's an adult in this iteration (she was around the age of the characters in the movies that I saw, but whatever)- but it's like they crossed Thorn with the Crypt Keeper or something, because I actually felt physical pain when I saw the image of her pop up in Disparu's review...
People who should be banned forever from american movie industry: 1) Jada Pinkett-Smith, 2) Brie Larson, 3) Rachel Zegler, 4) Mindy Kaling, 5) Phoebe Waller-Bridge, 6) Kathleen Kennedy, 7) Amber Heard. Those are extremly toxic and proved themselves utterly talentless 😆
if the result of this shows existence isnt every studio telling charlie grandy to fuck off the next time he tries to pitch a new show i will be an upset man
the fact it got renewed for a second season, and will probably get a third. proves a lot of people actually enjoy it. they just arent terminally online and always posting about stuff they hate.
The tropes you're seeing in Velma, are EXACTLY the tropes that have been in every high school-college centered show/movie since the 2010s, at the very least.
Reminder to everyone to not watch this show. I imagine the only reason this show has a season 2 is because they've managed to pitch it as "everyone will watch it because they hate it so much".
Velma was produced all at once, and they just split the first 10 and second 10 episodes into two different seasons. Netflix literally does not know what they are doing because they will just give a show a green light with two seasons, and you see evidence of that if you look up the background behind Centaurworld and other shows. It's just bad business.
Seriously, how can any member of this version of the Mystery Inc gang be actual friends with each other when they seem to completely hate the other's very existance?
They don't care about the quality or even the story or even the series itself what they just want is to make a profit and use the hatred towards the series, that's why he got got a season 2.
This isn't "season 2" it's part 2 of season 1, studios do this so they don't have to pay their people more money (not that the writers deserve more money, the animation team does, they did actual good work)
Oh I knew this day was coming. Reaper, love your videos and reviews. I'm praying for you though, cause the Hell and cringe you're about to experience with this is going to be off the charts.
The fact that you even talk about this show means that they are gonna make a season 3 already. Learn your lesson, and stop giving them attention and relevance.
This is why you gotta put your money where your mouth is, the only reason this got a second season is because a bunch of people went to see season one to see if it's really as bad as everyone says it is, and since HBO only sees numbers, they saw all the views the first season got and saw that as a success and green lit a season two, if you don't want a season three then avoid this show like the plague that it is and don't even give it a try
Its so sad this is how Mindy probably feels about her self, atleast Velma in the live action movies found out that she should just be herself and even found love multiple times.
so, you didnt watch the show. thanks for proving it to me. because what you said is so in accurate, its almost more believable that you did watch it, and just want to say the exact opposite of what actually happens.
"How did Velma get a season 2?" Can we all stop pretending that these shows are somehow earning a season 2 rather than coming out with two seasons already greenlit?
1:14 A selfish narcissist who claims to be a communist. How can one be both a selfish narcissist AND a collectivist?! 8:31 Attention pop culture! Not all Christians are Catholic. And to be fair, the Church of Rome really does have a lot to answer for, including but not limited to the Magdalene Laundries and the Vatican's collaboration with the Third Reich. 9:02 I side with Velma on that one issue. And only that one issue. Gotta wonder what she thinks of the IRA. She claims to be a communist, and is anti-religion. The IRA were both Catholic and Marxist. 9:30 Fun fact: The SA sometimes referred to themselves as "beafsteaks" because they were "brown on the outside, red on the inside." Also, they didn't actually wear brown shirts. They wore khaki. Also, I reiterate, how can one be both a selfish narcissist AND a communist?! Unless you're automatically establishing yourself in a Stalin-like position. Oh, but that wasn't "real" communism. That was "state socialism." As if there could ever be such a thing as "stateless socialism." Without a state apparatus to enforce it, no one would willingly choose socialism.
