I liked the part where the dragon has literally straight up murdered generations of innocent women in demand of blood tribute, but because the dragon is female it suddenly becomes totally okay.
They're really playing into the whole "generational" sin, aren't they? I mean, she would have been FINE with the dragon killing innocent young women AS LONG AS they were part of the "right" bloodline. Otherwise, she sympathizes with the dragon and leads her on an even bigger massacre. If she disagreed with it, she would have killed the dragon AND THEN went back and found a way to get justice for herself and the other sacrificed brides.
It would've killed itself the first time it tried to spit fire. Especially since the inside of the mouth and throat is a lot more vulnerable than hard dragon scales.
That is actually a trope in dragon fictions actually. I love dragon stuff but I've read a few novels about dragon that features flammable dragons. I mean...why? 😂
why though? It stands logic that a dragon's most powerful weapon is also useful against a dragon's most powerful enemy, other dragons. Snakes and spiders for example aren't immune to their own species poison either
I wouldn’t say on her side, but potentially some, if not most of them were probably unaware of what the royal monarchs were doing and were simply working for them. Basically the protagonist and the dragon killed a bunch of innocent souls in the castle to get back at the king and queen. And she’s the one we’re supposed to be rooting for.
Sorry but thats a stupid argument and not the issue of the movie at all. Its a fantasy world. There is no problem with people that have bad physique to be strong and overpowered. The problem is the writing and story that the movie is trying to tell.

I like especially how she, an untrained woman, managed to escape several life threatening injuries by "luck" and taking zero damage from massive falling height. It screams Mary Sue about her.
I was fine with the first fall, but when they revealed that LITERALLY EVERY WOMAN EVER THROWN DOWN THAT HOLE HAS SURVIVED, I just started laughing my ass off. Just... Holy crap! 🤣
And then she does that all again when she has to speedrun the caves to save her sister. I also feel like she should have been able to go back the way she escaped to get there faster and safer, though maybe I'm wrong on that. Its also really weird that they have the caves she is running through to escape at the beginning end in the crystal area that was a dead end, and then the movie just has a Stalactite area that was seemingly in-accessible, but somehow she just ends up there for the rest of the movie to happen. Like how does that main area where all the fights against the dragon happened connect to the other places she started off in. You can almost feel how it was several scripts taped together at that point.
Nah, she wasn't that op. Not a mary sue. I recall her getting burned and crying and screaming for half the movie. All action movies are a bit OTT. This was on par. And only a few girls survived the first fall. Loads of bones to show that. This film wasn't a masterpiece. But it was aright. Didn't strike me as "woke" or whatever. The dragon was an a-hole and changed size from spinosaurus to horse.
please the drama of men, men in action and fantasy movies have done this as well and other unrealistic things that men and just human beings could not be able to do or survive. YOu seem to forget the delusions of grandeur is one of the many reasons men and boys hurt themsleves and die sooner then men. This movie might not be the best but all the men crying about" realism" as if they dont also watch westerns, actions and fantaise movies that are not historically or physically realistic with men doing not realistic things and surviving things that they would die from in real life. I have yet to see men rage about how unrealistic john wick is and it is quite unrealisic if you take of the power fantasie hat and fan boy glasses. We have some many ridicolous and even badly made male centred and male power movies over the decades (and centureis if you inclue folklore and legends) and you never see men complaining and crying about that. If you want to say the movie is bad or you dont like it just say that. But if you want to bring the argument "but all wOmenz are Weaky this is fakkey" then you are full of it.@@peteschaub7561
I have a theory. After she gets yeeted into the dragon's nest She hits her head and out of sheer desperation and delusion she dreams of some dragon and revenge in her final moments. And then dies
Well, the assumption is that dragons, as eldritch creatures- are more intelligent than regular animals (& they're often [though not always] shown talking) - though I understand your sentiment; they're carnivores: there's no such thing as a vegan dragon- even HTTYD didn't try & BS that...
@@OcarinaSapphr- yeah I know Dragons can be more intelligent in fantasy stories. But yeah regardless if the dragon is intelligent enough to be evil or not it clearly still has immediate tendencies to eat meat and attack any human on sight. By the way, Dragons are considered eldritch?! I thought eldritch was only to cosmic horror like Cthulhu?! Also, not all eldritch creatures have an understanding of morality and are just chaotic beings or entities and don’t have quote on quote minds. Dragons in stories can be portrayed as a force of nature similar to Godzilla where they do evil actions and have intelligence but they aren’t necessarily evil but are just aggressive in nature. Even in some stories dragons who can communicate to humans still are antagonistic but aren’t evil and just are aggressive regardless in nature and can’t always be bargained with similar to a person.
If it is an intelligent enemy and lets you talk, it can be manipulated. Bears don't have the brain power for that, but the smaller kinds like black bears and smaller grizzlys can still be tricked into thinking you are more dangerous than you really are and run away to go for a more safe prey. Yes this intelligence is often used as a foil in otherwise invincible monsters, to allow vastly inferior foes to defeat the dragon with trickery, but that's not wrong in itself if done correctly
One issue i found with the movie is that when ahe discovers the map, it tells her the paths she needs to escape the cave, meaning that someone has already escaped and went back in to draw the map for future sacrifices to follow and scape aswell. But when she manages to reach the End, it was all but a rouse and the corpse of the sopposed person who wrote the map was dead, so this means that the person found the dead end went back in the cave to draw the paths to take and just called the dead end as an exit. Logic has left the room
Well, the other one could've just gone that way multiple times just to see the sun and dream, until one day she decided there was no escape and so she just let herself die away in the only place she felt happy.
How cringe was the slow walk away from the burning kingdom and the dragon soaring above millie at the same speed? That made no fucking sense there's no way the dragon could soar at that slow speed
@@MajorSmurf Apparently as a woman you're entitled to kill hundreds of innocent people if it means taking away a single man who wronged you. At least that's what this movie tries to imply.
Guys, remember that a fall on average without any wind velocity slowing you down, can make you accelerate faster than 10kmh a second. So even just a three second fall could already get you falling faster than 30kmh, not to mention that you'd already be 40 meters high falling within that same time frame. Falling that fast from that height is already guaranteed death or severe injury. Generally, nobody survives falls of 40m. And Millie doesn't fall 40m. That's just how long it takes for her to start hitting branches. She is dead. Watch the film until that point, then turn it off for the canonical end.
There are some extreme outliers where people have survived falls from even higher but never, ever, without debilitating serious injuries. Sure, movie/show characters tend to be absurdly sturdy but this is just ridiculous.
Things to learn while watching Damsel: 1: You can fight a giant, fire breathing dragon with a sword with no formal training in swordsmanship. 2: You can survive plummeting 40m falling through tree branches without any severe, bone-breaking injuries whatsoever. Granted, the branches slowed her fall, but when hitting the ground, miraculously, she didn't break her back. 3: The most sensible thing to do is to cry like a little bitch in a dark, dank, spooky cave instead of calling out for help. 4: The best strategy to fight dragons is to go complete with swords and armor, but no shields? 5: Despite being knights in heavy armor, absolutely NO NOISE is made when rappelling down into the cave, US Army style. 6: It is absolutely CRUCIAL to inform your fellow soldiers that the dragon breathes fire and give them shields for protection. Not that any of that matters since near the end of the film, said dragon melts not only the bodies of everyone in the castle, but also the evil Queens crown!! Guess medal crowns aren't fireproof after all... 7: No need to worry about little slugs sucking on your burnt leg on whether or not they have any substances that can cause an infection. 8: Even though she received no formal medical training, she managed to make a torniquet out of her dirty clothes; again, without worrying about getting said burnt leg infected, which could've made things EVEN WORSE for her!! 9: After incinerating everyone in the castle, including men, women, and possibly, CHILDREN, Medieval Rey and the dragon, happily ride off into the sunset like the cold-blooded sociopaths they really are. Yes, these are our "heroes" ladies and gentlemen. That's all I got.
1. why formal training in swordmanship matters? You can't fight a dragon with a sword, period. Probably not with any other melee weapon either. It's a flying tank with a powerful AOE. 4. what are shields gonna do when the fire breath/napalm spray is so large? 5. rappelling down is just letting the rope go with some control so you descend slowly, even in full plate it's not going to be that noisy. Walking around in full plate is noisy and would definitely attract attention 6. see 4, also hot enough fire can melt metal. It's a bit of a stretch to make dragon breath so hot it melts steel and gold alloys as that would also double as tunnel boring tool (rock will be melted) but this seems to be the case here
@@sarkastodon30 But there's a difference between being and ARE a strong woman. The film makes a fatal flaw of not SHOWING the audience that she's a strong woman. This is crucial to the audience in order to get invested in the character, story, and plot of films. Also, strength is not just of the body, but of the mind. If the main character was a man, the outcome would've been much more different.
@@marcogenovesi8570 At the very least, they could've taken cover instead of trying to attack it all at once in a single formation. Strategy and tactics aren't the knight's strong suits in this case. Having shields is better than not having them. Even still, the dragon would've heard them regardless. I'm not a physics or chemistry person, but when it comes to any genre or fiction, one would expect a modicum of plausibility or believability. In this case, it's neither because the movie betrays its own internal logic, which ultimately breaks any semblance of immersion in the film. A MUCH better film with a similar concept is Dragonslayer. Watch that instead.
>her father is mortally wounded trying to rescue her; she leaves him to die >dragon killed many innocent women and tried to kill her; saves the dragon cuz girlboss How much daddy issues one must have to write that?
You know, there are actually films that include great female characters--indeed in 1939 the film The Women, had an all female cast--like Maddie Walker in Body Heat (1981) and even the Oscar-winning 1945 Mildred Pierce. Those films knew how to make strong, independent women while NOT robbing the women of their femininity. Also, I wonder why it is that today's audience does not seem to grasp that the female in modern films are simply REPLACEMENTS for men. All the traits that women today decry as TOXIC in men, are EMBRACED when a woman has them. This is why Hollywood must have to be replaced.
But they're often criticised for things like- not 'passing the Bechdel Test'- as if _that_ was such an important arbiter of quality.... 'The Women' is a fantastic character-piece- I made the poorly advised choice to watch the remake; Christ- I feel like I was robbed- & I feel insulted on behalf of every single actress in the original- including the dogs....
Apart from obvious films like Terminator 2 and Alien, another good female empowerment film is Faster Pussycat Kill Kill from 1965. A leading cast of women kicking ass
Ah yes, because what we needed is yet ANOTHER generic fantasy movie that makes us men look bad and women look good for the 1000000000th time. Thanks Hollywood, we neither asked for nor wanted any of this. Edit: sorry for the spelling errors lol
Are we to assume the humans just randomly destroyed the dragon’s eggs for no reason? I’m sure they were there because the dragon had already given them a reason to be. But sure, poor dragon is the victim because female.
If i remember correctly when the flashback played it was mentioned that the king and his men mounted an attack *after the dragon had killed many innocent people from the kingdom*

Man I didn't even think about the healing bugs for her father. The bag of them she has had conspicuously absent in that scene. With how useful they are, you'd keep those things forever.
One was a (supposedly) 2nd-3rd degree burns, while the other a stab wound through the chest with a claw a size of a thick pole. No way one should be able to survive that, even with healing slugs or some other non-magical means. Not defending the movie, just trying to add logic to any flaws.

When in reality women are least likely to try to get along with another women they absolutely despise. 😂 So them trying to redeem their arch enemy is even more outlandish than them fighting and killing a dragon or falling hundreds of meters with only getting a scratch 😂😂😂
I thought she was gonna trick the dragon into crashing in the crystal tunnel. A “death by a thousand cuts” kind of strategy. But that was wishful thinking.
that would have been cool. It could be a metaphor for solving problems the smart way, the knights took the problem head on whereas the little girl used the dragon's size, aggression and power against it.
To be fair, that decrative piece of metal in her dress is an actual part of the bodice. I believe it's part of the stomacher. It's usually made of bone or if you have money, silver or gold ...

In a world where the population is so well traveled there are blacks and asians everywhere, why go to the trouble of raising rumours and questions among numerous populations about vanishing princesses and a prince practicing polygamy when with the whole blood brother ritual they could pick any random local peasant for a sacrifice and fool the dumbass dragon with a slight smear of blood on their palm that no doubt gets washed off after a few minutes of exertion? Like, they could buy off one of their own poor subjects with a couple pieces of gold, and raise their daughter from infancy so the parents never get attached. I hated that she screamed constantly, letting the dragon find her. But when her father and the men called for her, she didn't answer. She stood on the rock and waited for them to get fried.
I’d understand the Dragon more if she only demanded the King who killed her young sacrifice his own daughters and left it at that, literally blood for blood, back in medieval times that was reasonable compensation, but demanding every generation to sacrifice 3 Princesses is just overkill and definitely evil
