Ya know what this archetype always reminded me of? Spawn, especially with how it looks like the backdrop for some of the cards is Skyscraper. Makes me think the HEROs are going through some big event comic focused on zombies
Back when link monsters were mandatory, I used Vendread with zombie world and made an easy U link board abusing saruya and old firewall dragon, and looping goblin zombie and zombie master. It was disgusting..
this archetype tells a story how he suffer his life after he's been infected by the virus.. until he embrace it and use it against the evil horde.... and when he face the root of all evil.. despite he conflicting it to his final battle... he manage to overcome and defeat the evil... ITS A KIND OF A STORY OF RESIDENT EVIL SERIES... THE ZOMBIE ARCHETYPE IS MORE HYPE TO USE BECAUSE OF THEUR REANIMATING EFFECTS IN GY...
Oh Yeah Vendreads. The Zombies that banish themself as cost for Mediocre effects. As Zombies that usally prefer the Grave to be a second Hand. I love and hate them.
I love the lore of Vendreads & having an archetype revolving around Ritual Zombies is cool! Just wished Vendread could get better payoffs for how minus they go.
The Vendread archetype has a rather linear but well explained story and lore, I'm surprised you didn't pick up on it Nova. Thankfully I can't help myself so I'll type it out here. Consumed by the rising horde, lost within endless flowing flesh, a single Core breaks from the flood of its kin. Other Vendread shudder, a locket clutched within one of their cold hands gleaming in the moonless night. Then blades break through them, their mangled bodies reforming into the visage of one who should not be. Vendread Slayer is born. Through Origin we see he uses the undead and inanimate Vendreads around him to call himself forth from the beyond, the locket acting as a catalyst for his return. In ReOrigin we see what is simply how new bodies are added to the masses, both living and dead infected and consumed into the horde. The bigger the better. In Vendread Reunion we see how the 'more specific Vendreads are born from the masses of hollow bodies found in ReOrigin. The mass of flesh and bone swirl and combine, split and depart, becoming the special Vendread monsters we see as well as the larger evolved monsters they form once enough has been collected. The first creature Slayer encounters that is similar to him being Chimera. In Vendread Nights we see what Slayer's new routine is. Slaying, erasing (banishing), and repeating as he cuts through the horde of Vendreads which destroyed him and his beloved. In some ways he has control over them, however he only uses this to make his return and his mission that much easier. Then, a new leader Vendread emerges in Battlelord. With his stun ability he defeats Slayer, a feat none of the lesser Vendreads could hope to accomplish, and in Revolution we see him consume Slayer back into the horde's masses. Charge shows this monster break through the wall of the outer city, once keeping the infection from surging into the still healthy city. Unfortunately for Battlelord, Slayer can't come back just once. Calling upon the undead around him, again Slayer reforms himself before a now taken aback Battlelord. And in Evolution, we see the result. Slayer rips out Battlelord's core, likely banishing it to prevent his own return the same way Slayer did, and in Executor we see that Slayer absorbed the refined metallic body that Battlelord used to defeat him the first time. Now unmatched, and the Vendreads without a leader, Slayer turned Executor had nothing left in his path but defeating the Vendread menace once and for all. Unfortunately, he too is a Vendread. With nothing to control the masses except for Slayer himself, and no desire except for his vengence, a new Vendread form arose, borne of Slayer's own inner turmoil. Anima. The visage of his own lost beloved arose, its power to protect him but also the other Chimera that arose as result of the rampant waves of flesh. In Nightmare we see Slayer's fruitless efforts to eliminate this mockery of his beloved, striking again and again at each of the mimicked spawns, but only to find each Anima he banishes is only replaced as each member of the horde contorts to match the once destroyed. Reunion replaying again and again as Slayer is distracted by his own living nightmare. And then, in the darkest twilight just before dawn, Slayer realizes something. They only attack as he attacks, becomes a new Chimera when he himself reforms his damaged body, and the horde follows exactly where he goes. And nowhere else. His burning rage subsides, steps now placid as he leads the horde back into the quarantine zone. Taking the remnants of his nightmare into the center of the lake which waters the city, he relents. His wrath turns to grief, drive to resolute acceptance. And in a singular sweep, every Vendread, core and all, evaporates into dust. In seconds they rot to nothing, his own core exposed on his chest as his fettid flesh crumbles from around his fading life. Daybreak, the nightmare has ended. But that is not the end for Slayer. He was not yet finished with his mission. Whatever created the Vendreads were still out there, and how could he as one who could influence them simply walk away and allow another to befall his fate...if another even had the will to do so? In the following night, as an expected straggling Vendread finds Slayer, he does not strike out at it. The creature's body is contorted as the rest, yet its face is of his beloved. His anger, though, has already long been spent. Instead, he tenderly takes its face into his hand, and he joins with its still intact core. Savior, in this moment, is born. Rather than seeking out the Vendread in blind drive to destroy them, he now seeks them out to protect the remaining people in the city. None should undergo the horrors he has, nor the horrors the Vendreads themselves were subject to. And so he watches over the city, weaker than before, but always ready and searching for the resurgence of an enemy strain. Another Battlelord, or whatever it was that created them.
EXACTLY HOW I INTERPRETED THE WHOLE STORYLINE TOO. But I also have my headcannon that Savior is probably the inspiration or progenitor for the Elemental HEROs in that city, which looks suspiciously like their Skyscrapers. His pose as Savior is also very closely mirrored that of Captain Gold, a lone HERO watching over his beloved city.
@@shinjiokami One second while I steal this headcanon for later cause this is PERFECT!!! It also explains how 90% of them are....kinda weak, until later arcs when REAL villains appear and forces them to up their game. I also ADORE how this is a full circle situation! Slayer starts from a disaster tragedy, builds himself up and eventually becomes the first true hero of his city. This inspires other dumb but well meaning survivors (or descendants of survivors), inspiring a new line of heros who will carry on his mission, although very tangential. He really does have the pose and vibe of a HERO now that you mention it
You know what would be cool ? All that dimensional travel ends up getting the attention of all the D/D/D Kings, who decide to help defeat The Golden Lord and break the contract (as, you know, contracts are THEIR thing), but in exchange, they need help fighting their arch-nemesis, the Monarchs ! (D/D uses all the Extra Deck, Monarchs block that, both follow a "similar" theme of rulers, it basically writes itself !)
Yo! Vendread is my favorite Zombie archetype! I’m a fan of Spawn (the horror action comic the archetype is based on) and I really like ritual monsters even though they’re not great. But the playstyle of the deck is cool and I enjoy it a lot.
I feel like all this deck needs is a card that treats the zombies you banish from the gy for a ritual as being tributed on the field. Getting a couple rituals on the field with the protection and/or interruption from the main deck effects would be fantastic.
8:50 under the earth things can get ripped easily for some reason, example: locust from gow. However it follows more the lambent from that game. Maybe the new swarm if the infection had things that captured them and turned them into them
Vendread is one of my favourite TCG exclusives archetype, they have help me in DL ranks for so long and to this day they stills help me out in ranks. Yeah i know they suck in the TCG but in DL they are honestly a pretty good rogue deck, so if you wanna try out vendread then try them out on DL
Honestly probably could of been a very good archetype if the non rituals monsters gave their tribute effects when tributes from anywhere and they had a card to recycle Banished Vendreads easier. Maybe replace Slayer's banish to increase ATK with a Shuffle away a Banished Monster to Attack another time or maybe put that on Executor. Maybe even another Ritual Card or a Search Card that uses your Banished Zombies as cost. May be some better stuff will come out as legacy support or something. Maybe a Synchro along with a Tuner given the variable levels or a higher rating Link Monster. Though could just go with another evolution of Slayer. Maybe expand on the Avendread sub-archetype with more victims of the Vendread Virus who maintained their humanity. I'd like to see a lower level ritual or a couple smaller monsters who could fit in that group to fill it out. Maybe go more into the actual origin of the infestation
honestly, i like to think the vendred virus is just a more humanized experiment gone wrong with the iswarm virus from the duel terminal story so the iswarm virus morphs into vendred core, all hell breaks loose as core multiplies and it infects everyone, and as the lead scientist, its up to revendread slayer to take out the monsters to attone for his greatest sin all of this happens in skyscraper btw
1:00 what does healing magic does in RPGs? 10:09 - 10:42 What killed this archetype completely 18:20 Huh. I never thought Anime would be the missing love interest of Revendread Slayer / Executor
Should be noted that there Are a lot more useful Zombie support cards now than ever. But I still think we’re missing another Vendread Monstrosity that should’ve been apart of the deck.
Aw man as sub par this archetypes was i did enjoy playing it when i started playing duel links man as grindy as the game was it was not bad my fondest memory with the deck was banishing a odin when the nordic were added
I hope GNY (or Nova for short) does a vid lore on the archetypes: Traptrix, Ghostrick, Kozmo, Shaddoll, Vampire, and thats all I can think of atm 😅 I am new to this channel and love VENDREAD with that resident evil vibe
I love the theme for this deck it just hurts that it falls so short. Sigh Also if you chould make your ow archtype what would you do. Me i would make a arctype based around wild west cowboy dog and call wild hounds there gimmick would be DRAW! when you DRAW! a card you show it and active there effect based on what it was "monster, spell or trap"
I'm struggling with turn one. How to not put one monster on field and pass? All their things only add to hand, nothing special summons to field in this archetype! I can't even easily get 2 monsters on field to link into Savior! The only special summonings happen in the graveyard and thus can't happen on turn one.
Question? When does a ritual Vendread monster lose there inherited effects (by Revenants or Houndhorde), do they lose it when they get destroyed or banished?
i could have sorn this was based off "Spawn" because ofthe mai ncharcther and hsi story being like the comicbook one and his rivel as well and the newer support basicly being based off heavy armerd spawn (the one with the big red boot lol)
Yeah, there's certainly a lot of Spawn references here as well. It's a mix of a few properties, and I think I gravitated towards what's in the video due to personal knowledge and experience, so you're not far off!
It'll be a few weeks from now! I'm covering the Patron chosen episodes this week, and uploads will be a little wonky next week due to the 24 hour stream, but I'm hoping the BACH Lore video will be out soon after that!
After the lore* charge nonsense that happened this month, I would really appreciate a video or at least a text based primer on all the lore I’ve missed between nova and golden shithead
If you haven't seen it already, this link should be a good start! I'm hoping to get a "Storyline Segment" compilation out in the next couple of weeks! ru-vid.com/group/PLWiWOOuvUfPKFRHTR4hPT_oGGrT7LY2vl
im sad at the missing lore. the vendread virus, is a virus trying to recreate summoned skull (ritual) (magical scientist) we loreheads presume this is fake hero, and burstinatrix (revendread origin) (burstinatrix is the last elemental hero in this universe) Avian - becomes Stratos, because his wings are bitten, hince the blue skin - he is a vendread, but hes still a hero. Fake hero (revendread savior) becomes his pupil, instead of adjusted gold. revendread anima is (burstinatrix)
it can really be any scientist card but he was on the banlist. the reason its summon skull is because the archtype is ritual, and summon skull has a zombie card.
I didnt wanna ask this last video but can someone explain why his avatar is a woman? Easy it plot related cause I swear like a month ago his Sprite was a dude lol
