Venom was a very heavy band for the time it came out and i'd say they called Venom heavy metal back then... Venom was an big influence for many bands; Thrash, Death and Black Metal and Extreme metal in general... Fast songs Violent lyrics Satanic lyrics You know...
@SnakesBlues i believe i was talking about motorhead and venom being alot more IMPORTANT to metal than almost every metal band today im not such a huge fan of motorhead too, theyre a good band musically to me but not near the best at all, i love Venom though and the only thing i said is that people can have different opinions on whos the best, i personally believe its Slayer, but the most important will always be bands like motorhead, venom, black sabbath, judas priest
this video looks like a mix of spinal tap and the usual black metal videos, which are usually very funny. great video, didn't expect anything else from a great band like venom!
at that date there where no bands that take that kind of lyrics so venom really was the first black metal band later other bans incluted the gutural voice and get the music heavier and darker but venom was the creator of this genre
Nothing inappropriate here. Badass video though. I never knew they made this song in a vid. One of my fav. songs. Chronos looks the same after all these years. VENOM live in August! \m/
@masterdierk This was a 12" single b/w Satanachrist. It was on Neat records in 1985. This record explodes when you put it on any turntable! The cover is priceless!!
believe it or not.. it really was!! sometimes aired on sky channel's rock show and in the early mtv europe's headbangers ball show somewhere in the 80's
@TheJetfighter666 not really the first black metal group, but they had black metal elements in their music and black metal genre was named that way because of Venoms 2nd album, still they were teh first ever thrash metal group, which makes them one of teh most important abnds ever, they kinda created 3 of teh best kinds of metal ever, thrash, black and death metal
@Kingddd333 youre right, but i dont thik Jimi Hendrix was called funk metal back then, metal wasnt really a kind of music during that time, still he was the best guitar player ever
@Crymouth for me their music wasnt quite black metal yet, but the atmosphere, the lyrics and their outfits were definitly similar to most black metal, still in my opinion theyre thrash metal and they are the first wave of black metal but black metal as you know it today is different from Venoms music
@graveviolator86 no, i havent seen that yet still not every one that listens to metal respects Venom, there was an interview where Venom were talking bad about Metallica and most comments on that page were saying stuff like "whos Venom? they never acomplished anything, Metallica did alot more", theyre underrated because these days no one seems to care about them, they acomplished more than any other metal band ever, and yet no one seems to care about it
I saw these NWOBM pioneers in 1986 at Trenton City Gardens alogn with Black fLAG ON THE SAME BILL!!! It was a sick night, diverse crowd, Venom ripped!!!!! A bummer Mantis had recently left theband, and Cronos had this brother and friend on guitars..they became a four piece...good times. PS Cronos is about 5 feet and 5 inches "tall", ha ha!!! And yeah, he's a petite creepy nome.
@Crymouth Yes they were teh creators of black metal and maybe people at the time would call them that, but their sound still wasnt quite total black metal, it was and still is more thrash metal
@Dcool77 i agree, it pisses me off when the metal "noobs" that only listen to Metallica are always dissing more extreme bands because a fan of those bands insulted Metallica, and yet these people never heard those bands and it pisses me off even more when they think Metallica are the best metal band and the most important, they can think metallicas the best thats fine, but theyre not the most important at all, the most important are like Black Sabbath, Venom, Judas Priest and Motorhead
@Kingddd333 Yes he was, and he definitly had heavy stuff in his music and his guitar playing has been a huge influence on heavy metal guitar playing, but for me the closest thing his music was to metal was hard rock
@dyh1006 this is not bad music at all, if you liked metal you would know Venom are awesome but its true they arent the most skilled musicians, still, their music is awesome and they created thrash metal and were very influencial to black metal and even death metal, so as you see Venom are actually one of the most important bands ever and its a shame they arent recognized enough for this
-nods- Here, here! Well fucking said! Lol, there was a video on youtube that had the Cronos, Mykus, and Anton with some interviewer, young woman named Jasmine and she didn't really know shitz about them, but anywho Cronos talks about how he does not believe in god nor the devil(just there way of music) and how he,Cronos, is merely a metalist! And that's all there is to it. I was like, hell fucking yeeah!
I can see how people would say that it influenced the genre because like you said they have some aspects of it. But the part that urks me is the people saying "This is great black metal" when technically... it isn't. Or maybe I'm just looking too much into it.
Venom too, and Bathory would have exist without Venom because at his begening Quorthon said that he have never ear about Venom. But btw Bathory and Venom were two fucking legendary band.
@MrCatFetish Chuck Schuldiner considered tehm the first death metal band ever, thats enough for me, and i also think they created thrash and black metal so they created 3 of the best genres of metal ever, and yet no one cares about em, such a shame theyre definitly the most underrated abdn ever
Fuck yeah! fuck all the expensive weakass GNR videos, Venom is real badass, the video doesn't have to cost much it's a brutal story very Venom style... love it!
Venom and Celtic Frost were big in the 80's black metal scene. As far as throwing out Zepplin and Sabbath for Venom I wouldn't I think they go together: Zepplin, Sabbath, Venom and Celtic Frost...etc
@MrCatFetish Its not even Black metal, Its just regular heavy metal that influenced Black metal. And yes, there can be borderline bands that can influence other genres, like how Motorhead influenced some thrash bands.
Damn this is a great song. Venom kicks everybody's ass, even now. The only thing that sucks is I can only find the bass tabs for a couple of their songs, and they're not even the real tabs. Some jackass posted tabs for Witching hour but forgot to include the parts for the opening jam and the solo, so I look stupid trying to make it up while I'm playing it for people.
