In this video Ron and Dustin will show you the difference 10 degrees of VAL angle makes when drilling a bowling ball. To do this they have taken two balls with similar weights and pin distances, taken them to the same surface, and drilled them with the same layout OTHER than the VAL angle. One ball is drilled with a 30 degree Val angle, the other 40 Degrees.

The 30 degree looked a bit sharper off the spot. I wish we could have seen the specto numbers for entry angel.

Agree. I believe Mo says the MB on sym will always be in the thumb. Advantage of asym is that the MB can be moved. Specto would better illustrate the difference. Even for the sym's that were used.

I'm loving these tests. I've wanted to play around with these theories but been too broke to try it! Haha! Great information, keep it coming! This is great to compare to the pin up vs. pin down video - same test but with much different VAL angles.

It would be helpful if the complete bowler metrics were posted, along with the dual angle calculation for his benchmark layout.

In terms of motion......you won't see the changes going down lane. Where you see the differences is, in how the pins react when struck by the balls going through the pocket. The 30 degree one will be a tad bit sharper off the spot and SEEM to hit a little harder! The 40 degree one will be closer to a controlled move through the pocket area.

Thanks for the video! Now we can say for sure 10 degrees of VAL might not result in a significant change in ball motion! In theory, the one with lower VAL should transition into a roll slightly earlier, but with so many variables btw the bowler executing the shot. I guess it is expected that we can’t really see a significant difference
