Would love to see a full tour of your garden. I too have a very large yard and I have a hard time envisioning gardening out in the middle of the yard. I have several beds around buildings and trees but having the larger vision like you have with an established garden would be great to see. Thanks so much for sharing.

I agree completely Lin. Pretty tough to beat all that the Korean Spice Viburnum has to offer.

Love double viburnums! Not just the beautiful flowers, but the berries because they are loved by many birds through late summer and late fall! Plus low maintenance! I’m near Niagara Falls, Canada.

Love viburnums. I wish double file was hardy in my zone. I do have a Viburnum trilobum ‘Redwing’ (American cranberry bush) and it has put on at least a foot of growth since bud break!

amazing plant, i got several of those, but it is really slow in growing up, you can help it a bit but it wont change the fact that it is slow as the slowest turtle of the world

The first few years I thought that too…but once those roots take hold, they flourish. 2-3 cups of Bonemeal at the base will encourage growth.

Absolutely beautiful! Thank you for such an informative video! I think you have swayed me to try one in my garden. I have 2 questions. The first Viburnum you showed, how old is that plant and what is it called? Any specific name or company to purchase from?? Thanks!

So sorry to have missed your question….the first Viburnum shown is Viburnum macrocephalum or Chinese Viburnum. Non native to the US. Most folks refer to as the snowball bush. Available at most Nurseries. Thank you for watching. Fran

Thank you! I added a double file viburnum to a front bed last year. It is in bloom now and so beautiful. After watching your video, I realized that I have another viburnum! It is a Japanese Snowball. This bush is on the corner of my sunroom so it is visible from both sides. I have been trying to identify it. Such great info in your video. What part of PA are you in? I would love to see your gardens!!

There are some Viburnums that will grow fine in North Carolina. Maple leaf Viburnum (Viburnum acerifilium), Hobblebush (alnifolium), Burkwood (x burkwoodii)…the list goes on to zone 8. Consult your local nursery. Thank you for watching.

I planted a Chinese Viburnum 3 years ago. It hasn’t produced many blooms yet. It is in full sun. I am in zone 6b in West Virginia. Is there anything I can do to increase the blooms? Last year I read something about mulching with pine needles, so I tried that but still only got two small snowball shaped blooms.

I have problem with deer eating viburnum. This year I have an orange fence surrounding one because I have never seen it flower. Viburnum in the middle of yard is vase shaped because of deer browsing. It’s so aggravating.
@fransfairgarden4044
@fransfairgarden4044 2 месяца назад
Our deer don’t eat them. Probably because there are more desirable plants for them (Roses, Hosta…) Plantskydd is a fantastic product to discourage them. It is pig blood and vegetable oil. What I like most about this product is that you don’t have to apply more than once monthly to keep deer and rabbits away. They will change their paths if you apply Plantskyd. A local sweet corn grower taught me about it.

Not sure if you still review or look at older posts, but hopefully I will hear back from you. So I was in the hands of red-tip photinia, but the local nursery told me that they stopped carrying them because they carry disease and they always do badly with the disease. So I asked him if there's another shrub that grows similar to the Red Tip. Don't care about the color or the leaf type. Just something that grows similar to width and height. Do you recommend any of the Viburnums?

Could you explain pruning the double file viburnum. Mine has beautiful horizontal branches in bloom but it also has 6 or so branches going straight up in the air with no blooms. Should I cut these and how??
@fransfairgarden4044
@fransfairgarden4044 2 месяца назад
Hi Deborah. You can cut those out anytime. Make sure you cut at an intersection or from the main branch. Do not let a stub or half cut branch. Cut clean and enjoy your new form. Thanks for watching…Fran

@francesehredt4590
@francesehredt4590 6 месяцев назад
Hi Joan. While these featured in the video are showy and some non native, the native varieties not shown grow just as well in our zone 6. Viburnum dentatum ‘Blue Muffin’, alnifilium, trillium formerly populous), and acerifilium all offer the white flowers, heavy fruiting, and gorgeous fall color. Giving the wildlife and garden enthusiasts the best of both worlds. I haven’t read that yet, but will now thru your referal Thank you. Fran.
