Martin Cahill played by Kenn Stott Cast: Ken Stott, Andrew Connolly, Gerard McSorley, Michelle Fairley, Michael Liebmann, John Kavanagh, Art Malik, Roef Ragas, Bartho Braat, Norman Rodway
You haven't a clue I knew Martin nd his son Brendan gleeson was his doppelganger in the face nd had his mannerisms down to a tee he was too tall tonpkay him though Martin was only 5:8 gleeson was 6:4 ken stott was terrible as him nd couldn't even do a decent Dublin accent for fucks sake get a grip
100% agree, met him in the Witchery in Edinburgh one evening, a fantastic guy, no 'Celebrity' in him, we had a glass of Laphroig together. He was amazing in The Vice, fantastic actor.
@@davidm3maniac201 100% agreed, I can't think of anything he's done that he was bad in. The guy has massive stage presence, his personality fills the screen of whom he plays.
Never knew this existed. I've read 'The General' and seen the film and soaked up just about everything i could find on Martin Cahill and i come across this. Thankyou
Did you watch the one with Kevin Spacey ? bloody awful. It conveniently left out the widow scallons pub shooting. After that I saw "Cahill is a traitor" written in huge writing on the side of nearby flats. So big , a ladder wouldve been needed.
And, so what do we learn from this.....that there are levels to the Game....That there are certain buttons you do not press.. ---------------- When he took those priceless paintings, he was stepping on the toes of the Elites. They have endless resources to step on yours.....endless. That's why they live in Castles and Mansions. Unfortunately, Martin, did not understand their reach.
I'm from Dublin and it was interesting to see those areas as I remember them. I remember the jewellery robbery shown at the start. That was what sealed Martin Cahill's fate. At that time, the robbery gangs in the State knew that the IRA would come looking for a percentage of the proceeds from any robbery they carried out. As they were a heavily armed paramilitary group at the time, gangs paid up and cooperated with them - it was like a licence from the IRA for the gangs to continue to commit crime as long as they paid their dues to the IRA. When Martin Cahill refused to pay them, the IRA decided they could not be seen to back off or other gangs would refuse to pay them also. After that, it was only a matter of time before they killed him and they did it in a very public place - a very busy road in the afternoon with lots of people about - so as to generate maximum publicity as a warning to others. The violence in Northern Ireland has stopped since then but they still make sure that they get their cut - only now its from drug dealers.
Talking nonsense. He was taken out for working with the same UVF group that tried to kill the IRA Southern leadership in Dublin one night. It had nothing to do with O'Connors. Gerry Hutch was the biggest blagger in the state and never paid the IRA off. He's still walking around no bother.
So he didn't set up people to be blown up in widow scallions pub Pearse St by Portadown loyalist UVF .. and didn't cause the murder of the door man who prevented the bombers getting in
Thank you so much 4 this one I remember seen it years back I love that Scottish actor ken stott and his portrayal of the dublin criminal martin cahill was far better than another one which was out around thesame time
"I have nothin to say ta YIZ." One of the first boys I dated back in 1967 here in Boston USA said the word YIZ and my mother decided from then on Joey was trash and I could no longer see him. Mind you this snob of a woman was 7/8 IRISH herself but had been in the states for a few generations. Then it became popular to be of Irish ancestry in the 80's and she suddenly was proud to be Irish and even went with my father to visit his extended family in County Cork Ireland. When Mom came home from her trip sick as a dog she complained about being sick the entire time they were in Ireland after having left Belgium perfectly well. How ironic. That woman got exactly what she deserved after dissing her ancestors for so many years. I silently enjoyed this immensely!
2022 version: Starts with masked men hiding in a timber yard. A truck bursts in and they start their raid. Rounding up staff at gunpoint. They begin loading the tanalized 19mm ply board...
I’m in this, it was my first appearance on TV. Well, my first appearance on TV on TV, go to 48:35 and I’m the guy in the black jacket on the TV walking from left to right (don’t blink...). It was originally to have been called “Cast a Cold Eye” and it was filmed in summer 1998.
O P Yeah but look at what’s on the TV, there’s a reporter talking, and as the camera pans right to left, you can see someone dressed in black briefly move into view from behind the reporter, that’s me. I’ve a bag over my shoulder, I was supposed to be a photographer in a previous shot on that location that wasn’t used, so that’s my camera bag!
24:20 i got really confused when I saw the building across from the ferry port until I realised it's Dun Laoghaire... i miss getting the ferry from there, so much handier than the other spot
🇬🇧 Just started watching & the part where they are stealing the gold bars makes me howl! Each bar is extraordinarily heavy They couldnt sweep the shelf full With an arm, into a swag bag! Years ago i worked for Matthey Garrett, a precious metals foundry in Australia.. One day the boss came in, he was a lovely chap & was asking me how i was getting on, as this was my first job after leaving school. I was working in the Assay office Then he asked me if id like to see the Gold Bullion. I surely did & we went into this big vault! It was like Aladins Cave! Then he gestured to me to pick up one of the gold bars, as he said He thought id never have another chance ( hopefully, lol) I could NOT believe how heavy just ONE bar of gold could be. Using both hands, incase i dropped it, i could hardly lift it And i had pretty strong arms as i Played Javelin sports. I did lift it though & it truely was stunning to behold. Marvellous! However, to think of anyone stealing these bars, they needed to do some heavy arm training. So to see these films & actors swiping a shelf of gold bars into a bag is ludicrous! They would never be able to lift the bag of gold bars & run with it! Ive only ever once seen a film where they acted out lifting each heavy bar as it actually WOULD weigh & laying it in a special layered Dolly trolley on wheels & Then 2 men having to push it! Whatever! I love Ken Stott esp when he played Scots Detective Sargeant Rebus in REBUS ( Rebus means puzzle!) Thank you for the video Peace 🇬🇧👧
Ok THIS IS weird😢. Why does it have subtitles, i CAN'T turn off 😢😮😅. WHY can someone tell me 🙏.... I don't do subtitles, am dyslexic PLEASE 🙏😱 doing my head in 😎💯
This film was very good, it was as good as the first film "The General" there was another called Ordinary Decent Criminal played by Kevin Spacey tho his name in it is called Michael Lynch
I'm Irish living in the Nederland's and only watching it now I would not of found it only for the old carona virus bullshit sitting in my home on lock down 🤔🤔🤔
you probably dont care but does any of you know a tool to log back into an Instagram account? I somehow forgot my login password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me
I have never Directed a mini series/TV show or Movie but this is the Style I could certainly Do for masses that get into watching this the British/Irish/Aussie/Kiwi Gangster underworld and you got have a nack for this style to get it right as well.
If art robbers do it in real life as they do it in this film than I never understoot why they treat those precious paintings SO roughly and brutally by cútting them out of their franes, just roll them up and toss them in the back of their cars !! One would think that their way of handling those art pieces would devalue them drastically. Strange. And shocking to watch them treat a Vermeer like thát !
Vermeer or Vernear.. Whats the difference... Overpriced bit o toffee nose shite.... And the scum who buy them are no better as they've been bought n sold for a hundred years with stolen dirty money !!!
@@AA-69 Thats also true. It is if you want to think about it, going back to the neoliberal system in which we live. A system that encourages crime. If you belong to the group of the Have's you get pats on the back in this system and people admire you, but if you don't belong you are an inferior person straight away. And they think you're a failure. The mentally weak are very receptive to this idea and get caught up in it. Together with a monocausal view of life, such as the idea that you can only be or become 'happy', if you make sure to belong to the group of the Haves, it also has the consequence that you use all your energy and thinking tuned to that. The notion of social norms and values then increasingly fades into the background. One associates one's identity with whether or not they succeed in complying with neoliberal values and norms. A system that is fully focused on continuous growth in the pure materialistic sense of the word. Now with this crisis we can conclude that this neoliberal ideology is in its final phase and is now doing everything it can not to plunge into the abyss. A requirement, which has been made up, is to first drastically reduce the number of the world's population and that is now being done by means of mass vaccination.
If you left them in frames things can scrape paint off easily or stab through them. Frames are only good for when they’re hanging safely on walls. Even artists store them this way sometimes. But art thieves are not considered good custodians of great art for reasons too.
I like movies from Ireland, Scotland, Australia and England. It is so much easier to understand than US "English". If you don't understand English just read the subtitles. Easy to read if you understand German, Danish, Swedish or Norwegian. It's probably Dutch.
Dutch should be easy for you as an Englishman. For instance, 'Help me, stoker, God's hand is in warm water' translates as 'Help me, stoker, Gods hand is in warm water'.
You are right. But guess you figured that out by now. To be fair, subtitles is why Dutch people get to learn other languages early on. TV is in their original language. Except some children stuff, Disney and what not.
Gary Stuart: While watching this, I immediately thought of Ordinary, Decent Criminal which came out in 2000, exactly the same story line. The TV film Vicious Circle dates from 1999, so we know who copied who. I enjoyed both.
Many thanks for the upload, been keen to watch this for years to compare it with the other two film adapations. It stands up well. Do you know if the Dutch subtitles are optional on the DVD? Might seek it out if they are.
First time I've seen this I've left my exercise to watch this and it was well worth it if you keep putting good stuff on like this I'll be a right fat f...er
An awesome film. I was living some 45 miles North-West of Belfast at this time. I was only there a few months, but even then there was a palpable subcurrent of fear and violence. A beautiful country and I met some great people although I was glad to get home due to some events and involvements that brought it all too close for comfort.
Except his one Eife is way to hot to be with his stupid ass cough michelle Fairely plus aren’t they sisters like in the start when he gave her flowers didint she mention she knew bout the second wife
It's always laughable how the movies make gold bars, which weigh 27 pounds each, seem as light as aluminum. No crook could carry out a dozen of them. These guys would need a forklift to carry out the loot. Sometimes filmmakers are incredibly stupid.
