Frank Mendoza: I remember being arrested for being publicly drunk and being terrified because I was in jail and I had to let them know that I was gay and different. One of the officers made a threat against me and said that he was going to come get me later on. And I remember telling his supervisor the threat this officer just made on me. He said "Mr. Mendoza, you are in LA County Jail. You are in one of the safest facilities around. You have nothing to fear."

Everybody's pod was shut except my pod. And I remember it seemed eerily quiet, and then as I'm looking around I see all the guards dispersing, just leaving. And my pod is still open and i'm wondering what's going on and from of the corner of my eye i see the gentleman, the officer that threatened me earlier, coming towards my cage -- coming towards me. and I just frantically started, I started screaming and yelling, to no avail -- nobody came to my rescue. and he just came in there and manhandled me and stripped me butt naked and sexually assaulted me.

He left me naked, bloodied, and terrified. I remember just being left in the corner, shivering. And when there was a guard change the guard came and he noticed there was something wrong with me. And he even knew my name and he was like "Mendoza, what happened to you?" The moment I told him, he suddenly changed his demeanor and said, "Well, it doesn't look like anything happened to you. You look okay."

There was no forensic evidence taken, no -- it was not treated as a crime at all.

I've seen what evil officers do ,and get away with to both inmates ,and other people. This is why not just outside officers ,but people working in jails/prisons should be monitored 24/7 ,and they are NOT.

It sounds like he's talking about something you've seen in a movie except it's real. Even the part where he's quivering in the corner.

@kkjannah - My brother was beaten while still sitting inside his car behind the wheel. he was so distraught that when the officer asked him to get out, he didn't hear him and reached to get his DL, the officer then opened the door and yanked him out and started to beat him again and then he went for his gun to shoot my brother. my brother was all alone, scared and unarmed. he tried to push the gun away so the ANGRY, psychotic officer who was later "disciplined" wouldn't kill him.

@kkjannah -again, my brother was in the drivers' seat crying when the tired officer lost his temper when my brother didn't respond to the officer right then and there and began to beat him while he was sitting in his car, then dragged him out and began beating him again. no one was around, he then pulled his gun on my brother and my brother was defending himself by trying to push the gun away while he was on his back and the officer was almost on top of him. what part is not clear?
@afsanehpetrofsky
@afsanehpetrofsky 12 лет назад
@kkjannah - what the other officers saw was " a man trying to reach for the officers gun" what they didn't see was what occured prior to their arrival. My brother was beaten because he was sitting in his car and reciting the quoran as it is a custom. he was crying and was at a state of pure shock and was waiting to travel to houston so my uncle could help him with his sorrow. NO, he did not fight the officer, he had no weapon, he had done nothing. the officer, had worked a double shift!

@kkjannah -as I said, that same officer committed suicide years later for the same reason that my brother was crying and not bothering anyone. his wife had left him. this is how God works his way. but until then, we must all strive for justice for ALL. FOR ALL. ALL human beings who are victimized. My brother never laid a hand on him, he did not attack anyone. The officer was "having a bad day"

@kkjannah -let me tell you about what occured in Fla. when one day my brother was sitting in his car waiting for his flight reciting the quaran and crying because he had just lost his wife. The police were notified, they pushed him out of his car, one officer tried to pull a gun on him and my brother was scared, he was alone he tried to get the gun away when 3 other officers showed up and shot my brother, his lung collapsed, they had beaten him after shooting him.

@kkjannah - can you not see that ONE figure of "authority" a police officer who is there to protect and serve changed all of our lives forever? can you not see how many officers may have committed such crimes aganist humanity and were never held accountable? can you not see how ONE act of inhumanity changed so many peoples' lives? NO, my brother is the kindest, most loving, most respectful, best father and brother. We grew up kneeling in front of our elders and authority as a sign of respect

@afsanehpetrofsky he was imprisoned for 2 years for no other reason than sitting in his car because some lady thought he was in trouble. the 3 officers lied while my innocent brother is still trapped in a life time felony charge for "attacking" an officer and resisting arrest. I have seen, heard and witnessed this type of behavior too many times for anyone, ANY DEPUTY to defend him/herself for ALL the officers of the LAW.

@afsanehpetrofsky - several years ago, I was driving with the flow of traffic. for the first time ever i was pulled over for a speeding ticket. The officer was kind yet he said " I have to give you this ticket even though everyone else behind you is driving the same speed as you because you were the first one coming over the hill and if i don't give you a ticket, I jeopordize my job". what about my record? what about MY time? what about JUSTICE and integrity? answer that

@afsanehpetrofsky - whether this video is a fact or not is not what is in question. what is very clear even to ACLU is that there is deputy-on-inmate assault with no cause. Although I have the utmost respect for Sheriff Baca, I believe he needs to be more alert and well informed as to how his officers behave. I also believe that before any officer is allowed to "serve" that each of them need a thorough psychiatric evaluation and continued monitoring of their human behavior and errors.

@kkjannah -let us assume that you are absolutely right and that ONLY when the inmate is hurt it is publisized. However, does that JUSTIFY the police who are here to protect and serve to go on being unpunished for their acts of cruelty and brutilization? just answer that question and may be we can finally make some headway toward this obviously unrelenting battle of words and convictions.

@kkjannah -attack by violent inmates is to be expected and that is why officers are trained for such occasions although i must say that after witnessing the cruelty of the LAPD, no wonder why some inmates become outraged. and i agree that some inmates may have psychosocial issues. that is why there are hand cuffs, shackles and bars. But there is absolutely NO excuse for police brutality toward an already chained, helpless inmate.

@PoliceSexOffenders - thank you. you are absolutely right. just recently, 3 police officers falsely arrested a 51 year old clinician in her own home. she is an outstanding member of the community. I know her very well. when they released her several hours later, she had bruises all over her arms, she was cursed at, brutalized by one of the officers just because he could. She was humiliated, outraged and saw things first hand... I will NEVER forget what they did to her.

@kkjannah - sir, not one person. NO. I have seen thousands of such behavior by the police and other officers of the court. My views will not change. I firmly believe that specially the LAPD should be under close scruitiny and investigation and that is my final correspondence with you. thank you. good luck.

@kkjannah - I do NOT hate anyone. I merely am saying that our judicial system NEEDS reform. That reform may include injustice to the officers who may not be protected. I am merely saying that there should be a good system of checks and balances. that inmates should not have to pay 4 times the price for commissary food. that ALL human beings should be treated with respect and that no one should abuse ANYone. I DO NOT hate anyone nor do i stereotype. You have this all wrong.
@afsanehpetrofsky
@afsanehpetrofsky 12 лет назад
@afsanehpetrofsky - in Addition, I think that ANY brutality SHOULD be publisized but it appears, so far, that because the officers ARE in effect, in control and have ALL of the authority and OWN the inmates, that they seem to be able to get away with a lot more brutality than is actually publisized. this , sir, I can attest to first hand !!! I have witnessed it with my own eyes and have no reason to lie.

@afsanehpetrofsky - brutality by officers is far more in numbers simply because officers are authority figures. if brutality against any officer by an inmate is not reported to the media then it is the fault of the judicial system, the fault of the officers or whomever the brutality was towards for not reporting it. it is the duty of every citizen ( officers included) to report any abuse of any kind toward another human being.
@afsanehpetrofsky
@afsanehpetrofsky 12 лет назад
@kkjannah - How do you respond to the recent beating of a male inmate until he finally died? how do you respond to the deputy at the Century Detention Center who pushed 3 females down the stairs and now at least 1 of those inmates has lost privileges for visits because she reported it? again, officers accept their posts knowing they may be attacked and should be trained. inmates are not trained, prepared to be brutalized.
@afsanehpetrofsky
@afsanehpetrofsky 12 лет назад
@afsanehpetrofsky - I have seen too many REAL criminals get away because they knew a crooked cop or had influencial attorneys. I have seen too many officers get away because of a buddy system. NO ONE, NO ONE has the right to commint a crime and get away with it. That includes officers and inmates.
@afsanehpetrofsky
@afsanehpetrofsky 12 лет назад
@kkjannah - do you have anyone and or have ever been in Jail in LA county? if not then you don't know what you're talking about. just 3 weeks ago, 3 women in the Century Detention Center in LA were pushed down the stairs by a deputy who was having "a bad day" he injured them with no reason. they curse at the inmates whether actually guilty or not, they demean them, they say "'we own you" - please don't make comments about anything you don't have a clue about
@afsanehpetrofsky
@afsanehpetrofsky 12 лет назад
@kkjannah - too many times, way too many times, the actual brutality by the officers NEVER reaches the media. Do you know why? officers protect each other. THEY OWN the prisoners and THEY make the rules and THEY can cut off all communication of an inmate to their families. ANY written communication between and inmate to his/her family attempting to report misconduct by the officers gets "lost" or is taken.
@afsanehpetrofsky
@afsanehpetrofsky 12 лет назад
@kkjannah - the officer was tired, angry that he had to deal with a muslim. He later said "those f... muslims..." our entire family suffered. i still can't watch movies about prison. after 15 years i still have nightmares. so you know, justice was served as God intended. That officer committed suicide because HIS wife left him. My brother was on his way to get help from my uncle because HIS wife had left him for another man. My brother still suffers.

@PoliceSexOffenders - please go on the ACLU web site aclu.org. back in Sept 2011, ACLU filed a complaint about the conditions of the LA county jails. nothing has changed. All we need to do is protect ourselves and our citizens by supporting ACLU. our government needs to install security cameras by independent companies in all jails and prisons to protect EVERYONE. there are a few good officers. surprisingly. GET INVOLVED. your voice counts. God bless

@afsanehpetrofsky From reading your comments, it appears your language skills need improvement and so does your full knowelege of the LAW. I happen to be well read and well informed of the LAW and am an activist to reform our county jails, and prison system. I am sensing that at any given time, you would take sides with your fellow officers and disregard what is fair regardless of the truth. integrity is what seperates good and bad not status.
