Beatley Tone has his own extremely popular Beatles channel on You Tube and he joins us solo for the first time (since he was on the recent panel to discuss what Beatles fans want released) to discuss what he feels are the Top 5 most underrated solo-Beatles albums from John, Paul and George. Always interesting to hear different opinions on this subject from people who have studied the solo-music!!!

I thought i was the only one who recorded songs off the radio like that lol, it was a lot of work. I remember recording interviews with John and Paul and the Rolling stones! The good old says!!!

BeatleyTone's pleasant demeanor is a winner in my book. I enjoyed his 5 underrated or unappreciated picks. Especially "Wings At The Speed of Sound." Leading the list. One album that doesn't get the well deserved love from Paul McCartney's vast catalog! And what I remember of that album was that the band members had the chance to sing the songs! I loved that fact about the album back then when I bought the long play record in Mexico, in 1976. I was 11 years old! Ken, Beatley Tone needs to come back soon! Perhaps he can share his top 5 favorite Beatles and/or Beatles solo albums! Expand his tastes and reasons. We know that the White album is his ALL TIME favorite album! Great videocast a very enjoyable one!

Love this video Ken, and I agree with Tone, the evolution for example from Love Me Do to Tomorrow Never Knows, which was an incredible four years. I came to the Beatles from hearing Paperback writer and Rain and wanting to know and hear more, which was around the same time as Tone discovered them. Just an incredible band, and four incredible solo artists after the break up...

Thanks, Ken for another awesome show! and this guy is way cool ... as I have told him "if only this internet thing was around in 1979.."...I love that Beatley Tone gives us the UK version of the collecting/loving years we lived in the USA. This is very important to me. love to learn about the experiences and collecting this band from around the world and he has such cool stories. A nice discussion about some underrated solo albums, gentlemen. all choices Rock and Tone speaks for me with Wild Life/Fantasy! but Tone and I differ with Macca 2 and I must speak up about the much-maligned Macca 2. I love Mccartney 2 and think it's one of his most experimental/underrated gems in his catalogue. Why? IDK really...it grew on me from the first play in May of 1980 and that summer/fall it was on my turntable every single day (replaced by Double fantasy Nov 1980)....and its wonderfully odd that Tone feels opposite about Macca 2. in lockstep with almost everything but that album lol

TONE!!! (And Ken!) New Sub here, came to hear Tone, stayed around. 😉 Guys, I’m 33, and as Tone might remember, RAM and Wild Life are my two all time favorite Paul’s LP. I definitely recommend Wild Life half-speed Vinyl if someone is hearing it for the first time. Every song is 💯. Same with RAM. Great discussion guys, thank you 🙏

Very good show, enjoyed Tone's take on these albums. Wish the Lennon estate would release Double Fantasy as a archive set while Yoko is still with us. Since John wrote so many songs during this period would think there would be a lot of music to make up a deluxe set. Take care!

Great episode. Enjoyed the discussion. I remember ‘Double Fantasy’ getting mixed reviews when it came out . Agree with the choice of ‘Dark Horse’ my second favorite George. Album. Also agree with ‘Driving Rain’ being underrated. And ‘Inchworm’ wasn’t so bad!!!

Beatles Greetings from Liverpool and London this time from me! Liverpool for the first time and now in London we just found out that the John Lennon/Hendrix/Ringo/Paul apartment is just next to ours! Jane Ashers house and the apple botique are near aswell.

Great choices Tone. Particularly happy to see Wildlife and Dark Horse getting some love. I owned Wildlife long before I saw any reviews of it and for a while thought they must have been talking about a different album. Wildlife is probably the precise moment where music critics and I parted ways. I’ve always loved side 2 in particular. It took me a little while to appreciate Mumbo, but man, what a radical way to kick off the LP! Dark Horse was my first George solo album - I bought it and Ringo together on the Axis budget label in the early 80s, and as great as Ringo is, I actually go back to Dark Horse more often. Far East Man, Simply Shady, So Sad and Dark Horse are great tracks - my quibble would be that George’s vocals on the Dark Horse demo are stronger than the released version. My point of departure from your assessment is Bye Bye Love - it’s the one track on the album I can live without. Also good to see Press getting an honorary mention. Thanks for the great yarn gents.

Great conversation guys. I totally agree with Tony's picks. Wildlife took me a few listens, but I love it now, especially Some People Never Know. I just bought Dark Horse and like it very much. And I never understood the negativity towards Driving Rain.

Regarding DRIVING RAIN, the most recent time I listened to it again I appreciated some songs more than I used to. I no longer call it THRIVING PAIN, but I still think it's the least of Paul's studio albums of original material. My feelings on the album have nothing at all to do with Heather Mills, because at the time of its 2001 release Paul and Heather were doing fine.

When I was 15 I bought Wildlife and only liked 2 songs then, "Dear Friend" and "Tomorrow" both of which I loved. Then in 2021 I gave the album a second chance and got the deluxe version and absolutely fell in love with it. I'm enamored of the 3 ballads on side two, those songs are so beautiful especially back to back to back. I do think side one is a bit of an ordeal to get through, I know Bip Bop was a children's song written for Paul's daughters but I absolutely hate it; "Love is Strange" I like but it's a bit long but I love the titular song Wildlife.

Dark Horse as I might have told you has a special place for me too, as it was the first Vynl Beatles album I bought. I have also purchased several unofficial recordings of the Dark Horse Tour and there are some that are of decent sound quality with his voice in fair form. Some where his voice is in bad form too. So a best of Dark Horse tour could easily be put out. The Seattle show has his voice in good form as does the Toronto show.

All my choices are Paul albums since I’m not a big fan of the solo careers of the others. 1. Driving Rain - experimental in a way that doesn’t date it as much as Press to Play. Some classic McCartney tunes, Lonely Road, About You, Your Way 2. Press to Play - Some dated sounding stuff but some great stuff too, Stranglehold, However Absurd, Write Away, Tough on a Tightrope 3. Memory Almost Full - Great all the way through. For me, it is between this one and Ram as the best McCartney album. Last time we heard really great screaming vocals from Paul.

House of Wax is a little belter but Im not sure if I would describe MAF as underrated . Most people seem to like it. press to play was a contender to be included in my selection
@christopherhahn6728
@christopherhahn6728 9 месяцев назад
Oh, I know MAF is generally well-liked, but I’m saying it doesn’t seem to often feature in most peoples top five list. I like it better than Band on the Run and even Flaming Pie.

'Dark horse' is a dirge. Easily George's worst album for me. On the positive side 'Driving rain' is fantastic. So many great songs, introspective stuff..... i dig it
