Best way to check any hotel room in the world is the pillowcase test. Remove to see all the body fluid stains that are hidden from site. Remember pillows have many uses in bed besides resting your head on them. Every hotel I've slept in last 30 years pillows are never used I rest my head on my own clean towel. Seaman stain free.

I went there over 20 years ago ,changed my Thai baht and had to buy a bag to carry the dong in . It's the same as Thailand of course ,regardless of politics etc the interesting thing is baguettes are prevalent in Lao ,same as Vietnam and Cambodia ,due to the Frogs of course They always speak good English ,better than Scousers eh ? , calm down ,just joking !

I was surprised at the price of the hotel & 700 THB is really good value. Before the Pandemic I always found you paid more for less in Vientiane when compared to Udon & Nong Khai. I suppose all the inflation & currency devaluation has made prices volatile. Laos inflation linked to currency depreciation (real Inflation) for this year is predicted to be 10% & 5% next year so seems things are getting more stable & settling down.

Maybe a better break down is to separate the the beer & food costs. Beer Lao is better than Thai Beer & half the price of the Thailand side of the Mekong & wins the comparison by a mile. I don’t think the food does though. You paid 180K for 2 beers & your chicken baguette with chips. I assume you paid about 28K per beer. So I reckon chicken baguette with chips comes out about 210 THB. Compare that to your chicken baguette & beef stew with baguette for 250 THB in the Irish Bar in NK.

Hi Eddy, Do you only eat once per day and fast for the rest of the day until the next day’s meal? Just asking because you ate a really big sandwich which was obviously a lot of calories and carbs and fat, also a pretty big plate of noodles and again 3 longneck beers. That’s probably over 2000 calories in one sitting for dinner, not counting what else you ate for lunch, breakfast you obviously skipped because you mentioned you wake up late. Just trying to make a point, this kind of eating and drinking habit is not healthy in the long term, especially when you’re getting older. Look after yourself, so you can enjoy your retirement for many more years! Take care and safe travels!
