Seeing all 3 of them with their eyes closed, fully absorbed, was so moving. The amount of respect they have for the world constantly increases my respect for them. Beautiful souls, each of them.
I love how Babu doesn't care about what the specific religion is, he is just transported to another plain of pure joy and worship. He (and all of the men and women here) is such a great example of a willingness to learn about, enjoy, and accept other cultures. Blessings to you all.
@@Nilguiri As an atheist I agree with you... but the prayer touching the heart can be replaced with any meditative experience. When I was religious in the past there wasn't much of a special experience when I prayed, compared to today when I meditative and reflect on life. Compared to praying, meditating or listening to music actually isn't much different to the mind ;)
@@i.i.iiii.i.i Yes, I know what you mean. I used to meditate and had several, what you might call "religious experiences", involving no gods, of course. I once had a similar experience having what I later discovered was "tantric sex". It was amazing, that's for sure. Again, no gods required!
As a professional Gregorian chant singer, this made me re-appreciate the art I’ve often thought of as “singing for a job”. These men are holier than I’ll ever be.
I'm Catholic and this is the first time I've ever heard of a "professional Gregorian chant singer". We usually just have nuns, brothers and priests who sang it. Most catholics choirs (who sometimes perform it) don't really specialize in 1 particular style. When I was part of my choir when I was studying in a catholic school, we sang both in English, Latin and the occasional Italian. Latin is so rarely used in Mass that most Catholic choirs only perform it when the service is either all in Latin or its Easter, Christmas, etc.
@Maura Navarrete From the litany of humility: That others may become holier than I, provided that I become as holy as I should, *Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.*
Our man Babu's over there having a full-on religious experience! I love how much respect and appreciation these guys always have for the new things they see, but it's clear that music-loving Babu was particularly enjoying this one.
What an education these men are. They think they're here to learn, when actually they're teaching us. Respect to you all and may God hear your prayers.
@O_O it's so dumb too as "awomen" has no meaning, "amen" is a Hebrew phrase meaning truth. Just because it contains "men" has no relevance as it's derived from a completely different language. They are just blatantly ignorant people that are attempting to dilute the faith along with its practices and teachings.
That's a Catholic prayer for the Dead. We sing that during funeral and when the Holy Mass is said in Latin. It's about the judgement and wrath God. Gregorian Chant was named after Pope Gregory the Great. Gregorian chant is the official chant of the Catholic Church, you can still hear that in monasteries, Cathedrals, Vatican of course and churches saying Latin Mass.
Classic Catholic false doctrine. Everything the Catholics do violates the principle that Jesus actually died for our sins... Jesus died for my sins and I'm dead then I'm in heaven, why would you need to pray for me?
How do you get to hell? Very simple: claim that you're innocent. How do you get to heaven? Very simple: Admit that you're not Innocent, you're guilty and ask for mercy. How to know if you're guilty or not? Simply: Compare your life to the Ten Commandments God gave you in the Bible. Everyone agrees that if people followed the ten commandments there would be no need for governments or police. Do not lie. Do not steal. Do not commit adultery. Do not insult God by using his name as a cuss word. There are six more but let's just leave it at that. How many lies have you told in your life? Have you ever taken anything that didn't belong to you? Jesus said, if you look at a women lustfully you've already committed adultery in your heart with that woman. How many times a day do you do that? Do you use God's name as a cuss word? Would you do that with your own mother's name? If you answer these questions honestly you know that you're guilty. God can justly punish you and send you to hell. Ask him for mercy. His name is Jesus.
Honestly, I wish that the Latin West would at least reclaim its Latinity. It’s genuinely sad whenever I go to a Western Mass that this is ever rarely heard.
These are good people. I would be ashamed to be less than noble in their presence. Would you please let them know that they have touched hearts all over the world.
Catholicism is full of beauty. I'm so proud to be Catholic and love seeing others from different cultures also appreciating its glory. God bless these men!
I don’t think any Christian could NOT be moved by these chants. These are some of the original chants of the church Jesus Christ and the Apostles founded.
I am. I sing and I remember singing Ubi Caritas for a school event with my choir and closing my eyes and just feeling the music as I added my own voice to it
I loved how respectful they were of someone else's religion. If more people could so this kind of respect and receive it in return, the world would be a much better place.
There was a time I used to play Gregorian chant in bed at night and I always fell asleep at some pint and I swear it was the most beautiful sleep I have experienced. I never made it to the end of the CD!
The Gregorian Chants are actually an entire school of sacred music that was developed and preserved by the Order of Saint Benedict. There are many chants for different purposes and different times of the day and year. In that respect they’re a bit like Indian ragas. The “Dies Irae” is often sung at funerals and, as I remember, during Holy Week. The lyrics concern Judgement Day. The Gregorian system of notation was the foundation of the Western system of musical notation that has been one of the greatest achievements of The West, because it has allowed us to preserve centuries of great music precisely as the composers intended.
I took care of an elderly couple, Their neighbor across the alley was A gentleman who is ONE OF the ONLY Translator of the chants from Latin to English, he has pictures of him with The pope, and the pope giving him praise and a metal . He lives in moline Illinois. He has probably passed away. That man is Something else . Diligent , focused, determined and DEFINITELY Dedicated too his CALLING . Much RESPECT.
@@Nana-fy2gu The jazz guitarist John McLaughlin, who has studied Indian music very hard and incorporated it into his own playing, once remarked that Indian classical music, like Western classical music and jazz, is a discipline - a huge body of traditional knowledge with strict standards of performance that require one to become a “disciple” to a “master” before one becomes a master oneself. Note the religious implications.
The Dies Irae is sung on the last Sunday of the liturgical year, which is the last Sunday before Advent (the four week period before Christmas), not sung during Holy Week
Hello catholic here. Thank you for appreciating Gregorian chant. I use it when meditating with The Rosary. I does touches deep in your heart even though I don’t understand Latin as well. God bless you all. 🙏🏽🇵🇭
I’m Jewish, but when I’m in very spiritual and powerful Christian, particularly Catholic, spaces of worship sometimes I make the sign of the cross too. I consider it more a sign of respect and worship of the holy unknown vs a submission to Jesus or Christianity as a whole.
I love Mr. Babu. He totally immerses himself in the prayers and chants. All three are so respectful of other faiths and cultures. It lifts the soul to them. 🙏🙏🙏💗
This three men are wonderful. So wise, educated, polite, respectful. Really moving. Babu is adorable and his words so full of wisdom, simplicity and respect for other people.
Babu is so damn wholesome. He tried to sing along with the high pitched voice, and seeing that, was probably he peek of my day. And today was a special day for me, so that’s quite impressive.
These 3 beautiful souls could teach the world so much about humility and respect for your fellow human beings. Their thirst for knowledge and respect for different cultures always makes me smile and brings joy to my heart.
Not gregorian, but polyphonic. The story behind Mozart transcribing the secret Vatican work by ear and reproducing it after his journey back to Austria is epic.

The Gregorian Chant was one of the reasons why I converted from Evangelical "Born Again" Protestantism to Catholicism. You don't actually have to convert to appreciate great music. I also listen to Indian Classical Music and Tibetan Music.
The Gregorian chant in beautiful. Conversion is not to appreciate beautiful music (although it is good to appreciate it) but we convert to Catholicism in order to save our souls through Jesus Christ and his Church: the Catholic Church. Greetings from Mexico.

I am from India and my parents would have mass in Latin when they were young. This is around 1950. It was a small town. Yes the priest would face the crucifix and the prayers and replies were in Latin. They couldn't understand a single thing but they knew the prayers by heart lol. Now of course the masses are in English and in regional languages.
I was taught Gregorian chant in the original music format long ago in grade school. You do become wholly immersed in the chant while you are singing it.
@@robertcampomizzi7988 Our family currently assists at the Traditional Latin Mass every Sunday, and this chant is sung on All Souls' Day and at Requiem Masses.
I love this channel, it is one of my favorite reaction channels ever. Gregorian Chant means a lot to me and my family and I am so happy these wonderful gentlemen enjoyed it. The Dies Irae (meaning "Day of Wrath"), specifically, is one of the most beautiful chants and carries a very important meaning. It is all about when God calls all the souls of mankind before Him so He may judge whether they are worthy of eternal life. It is meant as a reminder that God's Word as spoken by the prophets will be fulfilled and that evil will finally be punished, as well as being an appeal to God's mercy for the weak and poor souls who repent that they will not be condemned with the wicked.
Babu's reaction was heart-warming, but I found Raeen's reaction especially fascinating. He seemed to be sunken in a state of _analytic_ contemplation, silently admiring the artisanship of the chorals and trying to get behind its _meaning_ . He obviously listened to it as a _thinker_ . Hope to see them react to more music styles soon. Heavy metal as a counterpoint? ;D
Beautiful... I love Gregorian chant. I wish we can go back to this beautiful form of Christian prayer in worship. Many modern Catholics don’t even know this. It’s a beautiful tradition of our church. Thank you for posting this and I was greatly touched by their reaction . You don’t have to understand the language ( Latin in this case) it still touches the soul .
Lovely reaction. I'm not religious at all but found this so calming and beautiful! And I hope you pass on to them how much we do love and support them, and give thanks for brightening up my day every day!
I was so touched. Such humble and devout reactions. I always found Gregorian chant beautiful. After I gave my life to Christ, these songs take on a whole new dimension.
@@hart.6230 Me too. Abraham was justified by faith. The question I have is does that apply to those who have not heard the good news of forgiveness of sins through believing in Christ redemptive sacrifice. God Knows. No really, God does know 🙂
@@hart.6230This is very clear; we are to continue to share God's great news. This is very clear because of 1 john 5:13 ... "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may *know* that you have eternal life." God wants the world to KNOW, and be in no more doubt, that full forgiveness and reconciliation with Himself has been purchased with His son's blood. Blessed assurance. But we need to be clear, Christians should not be in the business of converting anyone. Our job is to share the good news, and teach everyone who will listen to obey all that Christ taught us. We can never convert anyone. Each person has to make the choice for themselves. It's a subtle, but vitally important distinction. It's God's work that He does through us, through his gospel. If our hearers love God, then they will do what Christ taught. But we are commissioned to encourage those around us to follow Christ. How can they obey Christ if we don’t teach them? If some people are religious and without true love for God then, they will not accept Christ' finished work. But that’s their responsibility. We are not responsible for someone else’s response. Jesus said, "All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.” (John 6:37-40)

Islam, Buddhism... all use haunting chants, which place a "Spell" on you and open you up for demonic suggestions and even sometimes possession. BEWARE.
For context on the images for non-Christians - it represents the Last Judgement on earth at the end of days when Jesus (who Christians believe to be fully divine) exercises judgement upon the sinful.

@@brianhale3678 Seems most things the Abrahamic god demands you don't do are the very things that make us human. A bit of an insecure celestial dictator isn't he. Please, the ten commandments are hardly special. The first three are just god demanding the utter supremacy of himself and his religion (nothing to do with morals), the fourth isn't necessary as we should honor people who earn it, there's a provision against killing and two against lying (which anyone with basic human empathy understands is wrong), and then the rest are just various different ways of saying "Don't steal" (again, which we know is wrong regardless of religion). You can shorten the whole thing to: - Worship me and my proxies blindly - Don't mislead or otherwise harm people Simple rules, and the first one isn't even morally correct. In fact, it breeds ignorance and hostility toward other beliefs. I've said it before, if you need the fear of an almighty dictator to motivate you to be good and to tell you right from wrong, you may lack empathy. We have a word for that: Psychopath

This was recommended to me. I loved it. I may be a bit biased with this one because I’m Catholic and listen to Gregorian Chant not only in my home but at Mass. It truly transcends my whole being to Heaven. I was so glad to see them enjoy it and describe how they felt as they listened because even I, myself cannot put into words how I feel when I listen to chant...they did much better than I ever could!

My first trip to India (Delhi & Agra) (from North Carolina USA) I was surprised to see the respect & tolerance of various religions & their prophets even in their homes / prayer rooms. Enjoy visiting the temples & historic sites when there 🙏 Hope to visit again soon.
Gregorian chanting is some of the oldest choral music dating back to the start of the century. Sung by monks and nuns. Even to an atheist like me, the music is very moving. I remember reading that the tone and pitch of the chanting creates vibrations which sooth the human mind. Shaeen mentioned the language at the beginning. It was Latin. Back in those day Christianity was Roman catholic.
@Raylan Givens I'm an "in-betweener" - a "Ukrainian Greco Catholic", but the way things are going, I might become Orthodox. I already believe most of the stuff they do and go to Divine Liturgy instead of Mass. I'm not sure on the Pope, and I don't understand Orthodox views on Original Sin, Purgatory and a couple of other things to make a firm decision. I am trying to research things to come to a rational and well thought out decision.
Yes I believe it works on some vibrational level (for lack of better words), that you don't need to understand the words. How they found which sounds/notes to use is mysterious to me.

Loved this! I'm a Christian, social historian & southern girl that loves to see such respect and emotion. I am interested too in the fact that Babu crossed himself at one point. Does anyone know if that is part of some Indian religions, if maybe he knows something about Christianity and was honoring that or another reason? I'm so curious to know. This video was a lovely blessing! Thank you for it and all the others.
Hello, christian (catholic to be more specific) here. Babu is doing the Sign of the Cross perfectly even tho he’s not Catholic but due respect. Idk how much or how he has come to learn that but definitively he did it with sincerity and soul understanding and made me very happy.
He was doing the sign of cross as a respect to christ. Almost everyone in India have Christian friends, and know about the sign of cross. It was his way of paying respects.
Christianity has a deep history in India going back almost 2000 years. Many Indian Christians call themselves "Thomas Christians" because they believe that Thomas the Apostle came to India and brought the faith to them. He is said to have been killed for his faith in India. The Indian State of Kerala along the southwestern shore of the sub-continent is (perhaps) majority Christian. The people of Tamil Nadu - also a southern state - has a significant Christian population. Jesuits came to India in the 16th century and established major Christian colonies that are still vital today. Most of the Christians in India are related to the Catholic Church by rite; they have their own liturgical rites, which are linked to and accepted by the Catholic Church. Protestantism came to India with the British during the 18th and 19th century. Its foothold, in terms of overall numbers of converted Indian Christianity, is not as deep or secure as the Catholic influence.
Listening this makes me feel the past of my country and whole Europe. I see brave knights, kings and poor farmers praying for their family's health on a cold christmas night. This music and this belief was their life, their only purpose of hard work and their only hope for many centuries. (Even) as an atheist that makes me feel protected, warm but small and scared at the same time.
I'm a life long and rather ardent atheist but Gregorian chants are just beautiful. No idea what they're saying - I don't know latin. But they sound beautiful. I've heard them sung in a cathedral too and it just.... speakers cannot compare. Don't need to believe in prayer or god to appreciate beauty and this singing is beautiful.
The Dies irae speaks to Christians about God’s judgement day. The lyrics are very long so I’m not sure you want me to post them here, but you can easily find them online.
i don't want to be a party pooper, but as an atheist it didn't do that for me. i was still very moved by it and find it very beautfil. but not more than that. loved this video though, and the things they said
I’m an atheist who listens to Gregorian chants; the music of Hildegard of Bingen never fails to reach my soul - yes, I say soul, because I believe religion has nothing to do with the human spirit. I can find the inner beatitude of a cathedral as much as anyone who prays in it. Just as I follow my conscience to do good, I follow my heart to love and my soul to be at peace; nature has designed us this way. If you believe God has a hand in this, I have no problem with that either. Peace to all sistren and brethren.
I love Babu's reaction. I know he is a musician from watching this channel and I see he appreciates music very much, he feels it. There is song in his soul. May we all know such joy.

I've always found the chants mesmerizing...hypnotizing. Apparently many others do as well. The sound had as much to do with the natural echo of the soaring vaulted stone arches of the cathedrals as with the voices. So haunting.
The elder's reaction of acceptance is wonderful. He is really enjoying, even not understanding Latin. Their words about other religions are true to all spiritualized people. These humble villagers seek for knowledge of other cultures, but they are teaching us what means to be human. Thank you..... Greetings from Brasil.
It’s really moving for me to see how a chant invented by my ancestors many centuries ago, and still sung in my ancestors’ language, can engage and move people from a totally different culture across space and time.

Nothing can ever compare to the beauty of this sung in latin😊 nothing more beautiful than a choir singing in a large cathedral church especially around Christmas time.
Every one of these lads felt something in their core hearing this and the way they spoke regarding the act of prayer no matter the faith, was more heartwarming and uplifting than a sermon. What outstanding men they are.
