You should reinsure Raheen that they are not spilling water. That pure water comes from there naturally, so it would flow somewhere no matter what. Also, in freezing temperature, if you close the "tap" the water will freeze inside the pipe, meaning the tap would be useless after. If water flows freely, it won't freeze inside the pipe.

And pipes would burst open. Here in Texas, there are times he have to let the water drip because fixing piping can get expensive, especially after that nad winter freeze we had in February. All of us in the first world do, id assume. We never went without it. And any time we do and we lose water or power or even just internet due to a storm, we lose our shit. We are so privileged, that its now a national pasttime in my country to tell everyone how underprivileged you are, despite living in the United States of America. We are so privileged that people have made it their mission to stop OTHER PEOPLE from eating meat because it goes against their morals. We are the most privileged generation of people to ever live and all we can talk about is how oppressed we are. Its exhausting. These tribal channels really expand your view of the full picture. Yes, but Alaska has a lot of high paying work you can work on an oil drilling crew, mining crew, fishing boat crew, or service industry for those professions which pays really well. Plus all the state's residents get a stipend from the oil revenues. So this man living off grid probably works for several days at a time, then goes to his cabin in the woods for a week.

The water coming out is just melted snow...it will freeze and be reused. There is no waste. When people first came to America, for hundreds of years, everyone lived in a log cabin and built fires inside for warmth and cooking. We have figured out how not to burn the place down. This man was not doing this out of necessity, he is doing it because that is what some of us just love to do...experience the peace and solitude of nature. In America, many people choose to be outdoorsmen because we love nature. There is nothing better than waking up in the morning, walking outside, and seeing deer and other wildlife from your front door. I am a woman and I would do this, by myself in a split second...I love cold weather and it is just so peaceful and beautiful.

Been to Alaska once back when my step brother was stationed there in the navy. Beautiful country. Along the Alaskan highway they have gun mounts every so often. After it snows the state sends road crews out to use a cannon to fire rounds into the mountains and create avalanches so they can clear the road rather than let it happen naturally. My step brother told us you can tell who the new people are to the base in winter because it gets so cold the air in car tires goes flat, so you have to inflate them and then let the air out when you get where you're going because as the temperature rises the air unfreezes and will blow the tires out if they are still inflated

Hi! I live in Alaska! That vehicle without wheels is a snow mobile (we call them a snow-go or a snow machine). They run on gas. We love it when we get enough snow to start using them because then we can get around off road more and have more access than we do with cars. We can never store food outside because of wolves and bears and other wildlife that might decide to stop for a visit. That's why he had a lock on the outhouse. Bears are very good at breaking into buildings. For that reason you don't want to leave food products there (except maybe canned) when you leave if you just use the cabin seasonally. Most people that I know that live off grid either don't have a generator, or use it very sparingly. Fuel is not cheap here ($5 - $6 a gallon) so they certainly wouldn't be spending that kind of money to light outdoor lights on the house. His refrigerator is a luxery. I don't know anyone living off grid that has one. We have ice cellars dug into the ground where the permafrost keeps everything cold. Nice reaction and thank Babu for another song!

But I'm warm enough just with extra layers of clothes on. 😄 It's nowhere near like Alaska in winter. As to leaving food outside in the snow to store it, yes, that works...but in Alaska, you have to worry about wild animals stealing it. Bears, possibly wolves, lynx, and smaller carnivores. And the last thing you want is animals, *especially* bears, getting used to stealing food around where you live. Show them the bears of Churchill, Canada!

actually Alaskans have been known to store food outside, in an above ground cashe, it looks like a doghouse on a tower, with a ladder leading up to it, its above the bears and flies so they can’t smell it, they usually stored things like smoked fish and meat, possibly drygoods such as beans, to keep them out of the main dwelling and where it can’t be spoiled or ravaged by some wild animal. they may also have an ice house.

When I grew up in Alaska my sister was to young to remember before we moved there. So when she saw electric lights and refrigerators she was stunned. Then she freaked when she sweated, something she had never done before. About the food, we keep our dried goods and smoked meats in a cache up about 18 feet above ground. The stuff we needed to keep frozen was in an ice pit in the house in a back room. The permafrost kept it frozen so no need for a freezer. Bathroom was a hell walk in winter to a frozen seat with no heat. Though there was one major benefit to where we lived, there was a hot spring and pond next to the three houses, the men all worked one summer and set up a sauna and hot bath we could use in the winter. There were days we never wanted to leave the sauna. I remember one day I walked out of school and the temp on the mall sign across the street said it was 4:32 pm and -62. While we waited for the bus we had a spitting competition and laughed as it froze before it hit the ground. God I miss Alaska

As a Canadian living in a small town in a more northern community I complain about the cold but in reality its the most beautiful time of the year. Proper clothes and hard work keep you more than warm enough. Its not only a beautiful time of year in my opinion the most fun. There are a lot of winter activities that are very fun and very cheep if not free for everyone. We all love where we come from for the most part and its great to see people in other countries appreciating the life a lot of us live here in Canada as well. And yes we do take our water for granted here. We have fresh water springs all over the place that run all year long. And the area I live in has literally thousands of lakes that are all fresh water and many of them clean enough to drink from directly. They would also probably be quite surprised to hear some of us even go camping in the winter with nothing more than a tent and our sleeping bags....

Back in the 1960's, a guy documented building his cabin in the Alaskan wilderness. He didn't use gas or electricity. He lived there into his eighties, when he was no longer strong enough to take care of himself, in those harsh conditions. It was shown on PBS, but I forgot whether it was one long film or broken up over a few nights during a pledge campaign. Except for a few supplies flown in, he did everything the old way. In the northern half of the state, you need neither refrigerator nor freezer. Under a couple feet of top soil, the ground is always frozen.

To any villagers 😉 reading this: running the water out of the pipe is not waste. It must be run constantly during winter because it will freeze solid if its stopped and then there is no drinking water. And also, snow is frozen water. So there is plenty of water everywhere. It does not make clothes dirty but wet. When snow turns back into water and runs down mountain streams through sand its filtered and very pure to drink. That pipeline is most likely connected to such mountain stream.

The reason for the pipe/tap was running was because the water inside would freeze if it isn’t constantly flowing. Also ice expands so if water freezes inside it, the pipe/tap could burst and either no water will flow out or it will get contaminated.

Watching this in Alaska, as an announcement just rolled in that Hawaii is expecting 12 inches of snow and 100 mile an hour winds! 😂

I didn't believe that at first and had to look it up LOL, but Texas did have that major freeze this year. Yes, I saw Hawaii has a blizzard warning, wow! (I live in Nevada, major drought. Hello to you in Alaska!)

I read that, I didn't believe it and thought it was for the whole space of the Big Island, but the news is reporting it will be in the mountains. If it were to hit lower, then that would kill a whole lot of people. I suppose there are some people living in the mountains, so the travel restrictions are put in place, but they will have flooding. For a minute I thought the world had just ended..lol.

Babu is an extraordinarily wise man. If he lived in a city would be a uni professor. He would never be a politician or lawyer... he's far too down to earth. I would come to him with any problem I ever had and be comfortable with his advice.

You should do a reaction to Talasbuan. They're a Swedish family who live entirely off grid, no electricity or running water. They also have a three year old son and run a farm.

Very nice reaction again, and the video was really interesting too. I'm curious, does it not get cold in the winter at our friends' place? It would be great to have a video where we can send questions and if they wish, they could answer, e.g. regarding their food or customs. :) Or do you think it would be possible to have a live stream connection with some people who made the videos that Babu and the others react to, for example Jonna or the man in Alaska? I think that would be so interesting, to ask each other questions and have a nice chat. :) PS: Regarding the open water tap, I also thought that's a waste, but maybe it's just the melted snow that will fill the river bed again?

There's no water system or pipes in bush Alaska that you can get water from. It's a spring that someone rigged a tap to. You can see there's water coming out of the rocks around it, as well. So there's no waste. Also, if the water wasn't running through the pipe, the pipe would freeze. Moving water is less likely to freeze. I live in a village of about 2,000 people. While there is a city water system it serves only about a hundred homes. The rest of us have wells on our property.

The water isn't wasting. It's basically coming from the stream and the tap just makes it easier to collect. Turn it off and it will freeze and be useless

Does anybody bother to tell them when they guess wrong about what they're seeing? You shouldn't let them believe we're "wasting water" and that it's not a "tap" but that America has many natural springs, where the water comes out of the Earth, like that, and feeds into the rivers and streams.

They are only showing them different outlooks. They can't know everything themselves about every little thing in clips they show. Would be the smartest guys in the world otherwise. It would be better like others have to point things out and hopefully the team can pass information on.

The host needs to tell them that this is only one way of living in America. There are many cold places in America where there is an abundance of snow. Snow exists in urban and remote locations. Modern appliances do exist in urban areas of Alaska.

Well yeah, it shows a guy living in the cold… but with propane, kerosene, gas, generator, four wheeler, a Lincoln log cabin with way too many windows and not much snow… when you live live off grid it's not like that…

I love that they are so worried about him being lonely, and assume that he is planning to bring his family with him later... But as an American, I see him living this way, and I assume that he doesn't have a family and that he prefers to live alone. It really shows how different the view of family and community is in different places and for different individuals. I don't think it's fair to put a value judgement on something like that, but I can't help thinking that their way of being surrounded by family and love is better, even though I would much rather live alone in a wood cabin than be constantly surrounded by my family.

I would be interested wether there are any skihalls within a city in their vercinity, it might be a good daytrip for the second channel so that they can get to know about the properties and feeling of snow themselves as it appears to me from some of their comments (e.g. thinking that the stuff got dirty when some snow got on it) that they have never experienced it

That was some fancy living as far as cabins in the north go. He had it easy 🤷 It takes lots of $$$ to live that way in that area.

Seriously! Poor people in northern climates live very differently in many ways. Not everyone has a skidoo, a generator, big propane tanks, etc. This person is clearly well off.
@louannlang7471

Exactly... I don't like it that this channel tends to portray every American as if they're oh so well off... They should also show how Americans struggle and the ones that are poor and destitute. Well I get it that the number of people in poverty in their area by far is bigger than ours however their population is also by far bigger than ours...
