So a black man from a whole other country can fall in love with the same song/music this white guy from the American South loves. This is the kind of thing the world needs to know- we all have more in common than we do differences.

@@elfcounsul Thank you for telling us that, and it does my heart good to know that. I must admit that I have not done much international travel at ALL, so I get my opinions of other cultures from movies and pop culture, which I know are inaccurate and makes it seem like we all have nothing in common, dislike each other, and certainly couldn't like the same music- ESPECIALLY if its country!

We are all human regardless of what we look like on the outside, were we come from and the differences in our religious beliefs. Our body is simply a vessel that carries the soul. It's not the body that creates our emotions, it simply shows an outward emotional expression of the pain and love that the soul feels. We are the only species on the planet that are healthier and happier because of our inherent altruistic behavior. We practice it often to give us a sense of purpose through generosity and self sacrifice. We will put our own lives in jeopardy to save a stranger. We will make every effort to rescue those in need which include the animals and plants that we normally consume as food! We defend those who are weak and adopt others into our own families.

This is actually a happy song. Sad for us as we will miss our loved one but happy for our loved one to not be in pain anymore and to be at home with the Lord. It’s a reason to celebrate for them. That’s why Vince says “go to Heaven a shouting for the Father and the Son” he’s finally home, as Earth isn’t our eternal home just temporary.

Your no stranger to the rain -- in the first verse, was written after Keith Whitley died of acute alcohol poisoning. Keith had a song I'm No Stranger to the Rain. He wrote the rest after the death of his brother. The most gut wrenching version is when he and Patty Loveless sing it at Possum's (George Jones) funeral. Vince totally breaks down. Since he has written a third verse as he never felt it was complete. The lyrics to the new verse are as follows: "You're safely home in the arms of Jesus / Eternal life, my brother's found / The day will come I know I'll see him / In that sacred place, on that holy ground."

Him using the word "son" doesn't mean he is writing about his son or a child. Southern people, especially men, refer to just about anyone as "son". They also use like other people use the word "man". "Son, did you see that huge barn fire on the news?!"

The first time I heard it, it was played at my godfather’s funeral. He had endured two or three kidney transplants. Since then, I’ve heard it so many more funerals. I believe he was gifted by God when he wrote this song!

This was written to honor his brother who struggled in life and lost it. Very personal. Vince Gill has one of the best voices I have ever heard. So much talent.

This song is exactly describing my oldest son who passed away. He was in such emotional pain on earth that he took drugs to kill the pain. Now he is no longer in pain.
