Vinland Saga 2x19 Battle of Ketils Farm - GROUP REACTION!!! 

The clothes and armor in this show are more period accurate than any live action historical show I have ever seen. Canute's army looks so good, I love this show.

For those who are interested in reading along with the manga, this episode adapted the remainder of chapter 89 and all of chapters 90 and 91. The besides the standard shortening and trimming of dialogue, the most significant changes the anime made in adapting the manga was cutting some striking moments of dialogue from Einar and Arnheid’s passing into the afterlife scenes. Einar’s cut dialogue was largely him forsaking and cursing Ketil (calling him a “son of bitch” that he and Thorfinn don’t belong to anymore) and expressing regret over the old master Sverkel having to share in the Ketil family’s punishment from King Canute. Arnheid’s dying scenes were changed from the manga in a more additive sense. In the original manga Arnheid and her deceased family are traveling in a wagon through a generic peaceful countryside environment, which the anime has changed to a dark and gloomy forest, most likely symbolizing the living/real world that Arnheid is soon to depart from. Along with this change in environment, the anime also added some additional lines to Arnheid, where she comments on how lives still try to survive in the dark gloomy forest (i.e. the real/living world). The anime also added the visuals of Arnheid gazing at a stag and wolf still living in the forest as she says those aforementioned lines, the animals almost certainly being meant to represent Einar and Thorfinn, who must and are still trying to survive in the real world. While it was a shame that some of Einar’s more visceral lines from the manga got cut, I really did love the anime’s additions to Arnheid’s passing over to the after-life scenes.

This pre-death illusion of the slave was short but said a lot. All the war between the strong and the weak on Earth will never end, as the priest has already told us, true love only comes after death. Prey and predator together, trapped in a dark forest until death frees them from suffering, this certainly represents Canute and Ketil, but it also rhymes with Einar and Thorfinn, who are trying to survive in this madness that is life on Earth.

This episode was something else, hearing about Ketil from Snake was a lot to take in! I feel like Arnhied will not make it 😔

Honestly, Ketil is such a coward and this episode exposes him even more. He's leading men into the slaughter house to defend his property and wealth. It's not as if the slaves on his farms share in the wealth their incredibly hard work produces, most of it goes to Ketil and his family. So these 350 men have been essentially duped into dying for the wealth of one man who lied about who he is and his actual capabilities. After seeing how easily Ketil breaks under pressure and opts for violent cruelty when he feels insecure, I'd rather have the farm go to Canute. Also Canute isn't just simply grabbing power for power's sake. Remember acquiring farms (owned by families and individuals, not the actual people who do the work to produce the wealth) was an alternative to taxing the population overall, which would hurt ordinary people much more than Lords and property owners like Ketil. Instead of risking peasant revolt and rebellion, Canute is weakening the power of land owners who could stand in the way of his attempt to bring back "lost love". Canute has to gather power and centralize power within the crown to enact his version of utopia. Of course that comes at a high moral and mental price.

I think Thorgil can request a 1v1 duel, attacking the king's honor directly, it would be a cool way to really test Canute's battle skills, which has already been highlighted this season with him, Canute, training and all.
