Phil Sweet, his brothers and Wally, his Dad, run a family farming operation where they grow and distribute 1/3rd of Australia’s Strawberry Runners and is located just out of Stanthorpe in Southern QLD.
I was welcomed with open arms and as the stories unfolded I was invited to get in the old Toyota and have a look at some old working equipment that was to really ‘blow my mind’.
Tucked away down the bottom paddocks and chugging away without a care in the world was a fully restored 1957 Cat D7 Cable Blade Dozer (convert)

Hi, Ron. Thanks for the memories. I started of on a Cat 22 with a hand windlass operated cable blade, graduated to a Cat 20 with a hydraulic blade, then a 2T D4 with a hydraulic blade and then to a 3T series D7, again with a cable blade - all a far cry from the D9N I was operating when we met at Boral. Again, thanks for the memories. Just my 0.02. You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

First dozer I ran was a ‘47, pony start, hydraulic blade, D7-3T. I recently gave it to a younger friend so it will have a good home for years to come.

I bought a 1966 CAT D6 B in 1999 with very similar controls. Hydraulic blade though. It was a handfull to operate but a lot of fun !

You lost me when you removed the gasoline pony motor starter. My D7E had one, and I used to challenge people to start the dozer. Then when I would start it, they would be in awe.

Controversial for sure and you're not the first to comment on that. It's a working tractor so there are a few mods to make it work for them.

@@australianearthmoving Mine was used as a tow cat pulling a TD20 with a BRON cable plow. Buried hundreds of miles of telephone cable like that.

I was wondering about the starter motor. They originally had a bench seat.

There have been a few mods to keep it a working tractor on the farm. An interesting conversation for sure and the starter motor has definitely raised a few eyebrows.

@@australianearthmoving I am old enough to remember those cable dozer and starter motors. I can even remember a cable dozer pulling a scraper pan. I grew up watching them build the interstate system in the US and got my first job in road and bridge construction in 1978. That was back when there were equipment operators and not just drivers like today where the electronics cut the grade.
