Very cool vintage Doo!!! Hey A.J. you most likely had a 335. Very common rotax. I don't remember a 355. Unless you meant a different brand.

That's a gem AJ - Dad has a 72 Olympic 399 and back then good on a trail but sucked in deep snow. Better lock her up or your Dad will be out cruising around on it. Cheers and thanks for sharing.

Excellent video!! That was a great restoration!! I have a '69 Nordic 371/e that my dad bought the year I was born, and learned to drive on, that I'm wanting to restore! Parts are hard to find and would appreciate any avenues of where I might find some!

Awesome. Boy does this bring back memories. My Dad bought me a used Nordic from our neighbor I think in 1974. I don’t remember what year it was but it was probably a ‘69 or ‘70. It looked like yours with the hidden headlight but I remember the sides of the hood being black around the air intakes. We lived in Northern Michigan and I had a blast on that sled - when it ran. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Cool video man. Recently bought a '98 ski Doo touring e in good condition that I'm restoring, which I consider vintage! Those old ski doos will not die if you take care of them! Really like that mechanic

We use to have the exact same sled when we were kids. My dad bought it new. It was used at our cottage it’s whole life. He would get pissed at us if we got it stuck in the bush. Not because of the long walk in the bush,but because it was sooo heavy and hard to get it out lol. He gave it away in the mid 80’s I believe
@stevenorander8288

Funny we used to think this sled was heavy. It is so much lighter than modern sled.

Nice! That snowmobile (1972 though) marks the beginning of my snowmobile addiction. The carburetor was awful and would spit gas on your suit, plugs would foul, the muffler would break from vibration, the gas tank split down the center seam, a ski spindle broke and I watched the ski depart to the right (way right), the electric starter broke off the engine, the headlight retract mechanism broke, the hood broke at the latch attachment... Good times.

I had a 1971 ski doo nordic the original engine was wore out so my dad bought a good running 340 Polaris engine and replaced the track and enjoyed it for years

Boy does that bring back memories! When I was 14 I bought a 1970 Nordic 399 wide track with my ice fishing money. I put new front cogs on her and away I went. Eventually the nordic engine was transplanted into a 72 TNT 640. I wish I had both of them now. Great story! I need a hat lol. Where do I get it?

This young man did an amazing job on that Nordic for being so young and hopefully he continues to find and restore other vintage sleds. This one brought back memories of one I have currently rotting away. Several years ago, I acquired a pretty nice 72 Nordic 399E. It had a 440 swapped into it but the 399 came with it. It had 1 tear in the seat but otherwise was in great shape. Unfortunately I lost my storage space and had to move it to a friends house for outdoor storage and where he put it a tree fell on it destroying the immaculate hood and original yellow windshield, cowling, and shredded the seat and rear compartment but the neither the engine or tunnel were damaged. I haven’t had the heart to touch it ever since.

For purposes of an absolute show restoration, the skis on this Nordic appear to be a 1970 version. The 1971 version was yellow and all-new; Ski-Doo then changed the ski color to black for subsequent model years through 1979. Also, the seat was pleated with a slick embossed vinyl surface, however the seams did not last and in 1972 Ski-Doo returned to using the vinyl seat material (sort of a pebbled grippy texture) it had used on the 1970 models (Olympique and Nordic). Otherwise, a very clean 1971 Nordic 399! As I owned a 1971 Olympique back in the day, I can attest to these details as we also used a 1970 Olympique. Two very different sleds! A neighbor had a 1972 Olympique, again can trace those design changes year by year.

Cool. We had a ‘73 or ‘74. I think a 16” track. 640 fan. 2 tone brown color. Fancy unit back in the day. Couldn’t keep from fouling spark plugs however. It went back to the dealer numerous times. I’ve seen online posts where others had the same problem and fixed it by changing the carb. Thank goodness for EFI. One thing I still like is the flip up hood. Even today. We switched to Cat in ‘75 when they came out with the slide rail suspension. That ole Nordic was a memorable sled tho.
@todddenio3200
@todddenio3200 2 года назад
Cat was using slides back in the 60’s (I think either 66 or 67). The last bogie wheel cat that I know of was the 68 Cougar which was a 1 year only offering and there were only 1 built per dealer and the dealers weren’t supposed to sell them until the end of the season. I have only seen 1 in person and a few pics of them. Most of them are long gone with only a handful still in existence and most of those are basket cases.

We had a ‘69 318e Olympic… I drove it to near destruction. I always thought the Nordic was the ultimate, until the 640 TNT came out.
