For me, it was my grandpa! “Mikey... now, pay close attention... only put the salt on the ice, boy!” Lol. He had a crank machine (like a wooden tub) and the dasher inside was not covered with a lid.

Laci, most of the brands that are in vintage are made to last, since it is vintage, its quality is also outstanding and excellent. It has numerous features that are designed for that TIME, where it can also be incorporated or infused in daily life. The brands of the 50s has a lot of things to say as well for the present time. They are performing from that time and to date 2023. Continue to enlighten many, and continue to be as genuine. Preserved.

Grew up making ice cream in an old Hand Crank maker. My cousin and I used to take turns so our arms wouldn't fall off. :-) Now I still make homemade ice cream. The new machines are all plastic and don't last very long. We NEVER put the ice cream in the freezer because it is all gone before we can. HAHA. Family favorite is Banana Pineapple, but sometimes we also make Orange Sherbet. Love all your vintage goodies!

My grandmother used to make homemade ice cream in an ice cream maker that was so old it had a hand crank!!! My brother and I used to take turns cranking the ice cream maker, lol!!

Fun! Regarding the sugar/strawberry ratio; today's factory farmed out of season strawberries tend to be sour. You can sweeten to taste. I grew up in the 60s. Folk's today don't even know! We only had produce in its proper season. Gorging on summer fruits while they lasted is one of my fondest memories. Soft, sweet, juicy yumminess!!! Today's strawberries berries have been bred to be much firmer to survive the shipping process. Cutting them smaller before crushing will help.

I was born in 1966 and my parents had an ice cream maker but it was not as large as the one you have, it was only about half that size. If the motor ever gives out there are electric motor repair shops everywhere that can rebuild the motor, it may be a little pricey but if you love the gadget you have that option. Thanks for helping me recall some pleasant childhood memories I had not recalled in years.

I have such great memories of being on my grandparent's porch on a hot summer's day, hand churning an old ice cream maker. That was the best stuff ever, made with Eaglebrand Sweetened condensed milk and cream. We'd all grab a spoon and eat it off the paddle!! 😆😊💕 Thank you, sweet Laci!

Loved watching this! It completely reminded me of childhood. In the summer, All the neighbors brought out their ice cream freezers, moms dressed very similar to you, kids played and skated. We couldn’t wait til the freezers stopped! Thx for the memories.

During the family reunion every summer in Richmond, Virginia, my grandma’s cousin hosted it on his farm and had a crank ice cream maker that each year he provided fresh peaches or strawberries from his farm. We all took turns cranking it and couldn’t stop. The ice cream was the best ever! When the electric ice cream makers became popular we didn’t get one because my grandmother didn’t feel it was as good. It was fun watching you make the ice cream. Thanks Laci.

Laci one thing I have learned about having all vintage appliances is they smell different than modern ones. I think a combination of age, dust, use and the motors weren’t as sealed in as newer appliances gives them that smell. I used to freak out about it until someone advised me it’s “ vintage “ smell lol I love my old appliances. Definitely 1000x better than the modern garbage they produce today

In the 1980s, after graduating college, I started wearing vintage suits, blouses and skirts to work in corporate [the 1950s influenced Madonna's early style during that time] I purchased from vintage clothing stores in NYC and items I got from my Dearest Grandmommy, back then. I styled my hair in classic Victory Roll styles... I looked at photos and it was the best period of tailored clothing I ever wore til this day.

Homemade ice cream will usually be a bit softer than commercial. More cream & no preservatives Cute dress (even though I do not like pink) & jewelry. Bet your son & husband liked that for dessert.

Our family never waited for it to get really hard. We had a peach tree in our yard that grew the tastiest peaches. A lot of memories making homemade ice cream.

Lol I watched the Victorian Way video about making ice cream and their inner compartment doesn’t look all that different from this 1950’s one. So fascinating to see how much or how little certain technologies have evolved. Also your dress is adorable and almost too perfect for this video!!

This pink electric freezer maker ( 1970’s) i had one six quarts with see thru lid !! It’s fun to watch !! So many years I added the lube inside the gears box make the motor runs easy and more quietly !! Thx Laci

I am baffled how you control yourself and not taste the ice cream before putting it in the freezer. Obviously, I have little self control! LOL. I have to say, you are absolutely gorgeous in this dress. And, I LOVE that your husband sanded and painted it for you!!! He is definitely a keeper and a 10 out of five !

Grandma had one. Set it 8n a sink or bucket and continue to add ice and salt . The extra water will dribble out the over flow slot on the side of the bucket. Ice cream is done when it is struggling to turn.

My mother got an ice cream maker that had a wooden bucket with her Blue Chip stamps. We crushed candy canes and made peppermint ice cream. My grandpa would bring a huge watermelon and we had cookouts in the backyard. Good times.

Wow! That is so cool. It reminds of making butter in kindergarten or the First grade, we were so thrilled. Your husband did a fantastic job painting it. The only thing I would suggest for any old appliances is getting them rewired. That is just me though, Laci. Love, love, love it! And you can keep it healthy too. Not extra additives either.

I had an old blender that my uncle gave me from the 50's, and it worked great until it began smoking and almost catching fire. Have the plugs checked out well, and never leave unattended for your own safety.

Oh man, this takes me back to making ice cream on the porch 4th of July with my grandma. She had a few old ones like this. A yellow one and a blue one. You just plug and go! And yeah they were loud so that’s why we made it outside. Lol.

First of all, I have that same yellow bowl, infact, I have the whole set that includes that bowl. Second, I have never seen a pink ice cream machine and I love it! Third, tes, they are loud, but the sound of those ice cream machines take me back to the 70s when I was a child and my mother, grandmother and aunts would make ice cream for those 4th of July gatherings or those church ice cream socials!

You have a very helpful husband. The dress is really pretty. To chop the strawberries, you can also use a device that is also vintage: a so-called "Flotte Lotte" (means food mill). You can buy it also new.

We make it all the time in the South. Our recipe is a little different. We use Eagle brand milk. Pet milk. Regular milk. Sugar. And vanilla flavoring. So good.

I gather that the 1950s were such an iconic time of electronic innovation, we still use these things today, but things are much less iconic, and even taken for granted, where as back then everything was new.
