It's a new vintage gadget video! Yay! I had a lot of fun testing out this 1950's Osrow Radiant Refrigerator Defroster for you all, and showing you a bit more of my vintage Coldspot refrigerator. Coldspot is a Kenmore brand from Sears. My model is 1949-1952/53. I couldn't find a specific ad, or match the model number to know what year it is for sure, however in 1952/53 they came out with an automatic defrosting model, so I know ours is older than that. Let's test out this vintage gadget!!
**If you decide to test out any vintage gadgets of your own, please be careful. You never know what old electrical products will do. **

That is a cool gadget. By the way, I know you have a modern dishwasher. There is this place called Big Chill that builds reproduction vintage fridges and ranges. They have vintage look panels you can put on your dishwasher to make it look vintage. Seems pretty cool

@Kubulek17

La Reina del Sur they’re much better than the modern ones, they use plenty of water and have powerful pumps so clean in less than an hour. New ones take over 2hours due to eco regulations
@rondooron8213
@rondooron8213 4 года назад
@@Kubulek17 Having used ones from the 1960s to today, I have to strongly disagree. Old dishwashers were total crap. You had to wash the dishes before you even loaded them because they didn't even have an internal garbage disposal. And they ran your electric bills so far through the roof that it would probably be cheaper to hire someone to wash the dishes for you.

We love using vintage gadgets in our home. Most of our serving dishes and trays are vintage or antique, because they are so much prettier than the modern ones of today. Some of my favorite gadgets are my metal ice cream scoop, our juice-o-mat (was grandmas), pasta rollers, cookie cutters, our Boes Dayton nut cracker and my metal measuring spoons and cups. I also inherited a complete set of 1971 Permanent multi-core cookware from my Grandmother. Most Vintage items work better and definitely last longer in my opinion.

Yes! I believe the pans of hot water would work faster than this device. I am 67 years old and have defrosted many a fridge. Also.I still defrost my small chest type freezer. I use pans of hot water. I miss these old fridges. I couldn't wait until I could afford a frost free but these older ones lasted longer and worked better. And by the time you needed to defrost you needed to clean out anyway. Also I always unplugged to defrost. Older appliances had more eye appeal and lasted more than a couple of years. I put my food in an ice chest while I defrost. I am an old fogey, ha!♥️

...also amazing you managed to get a proper vintage fridge and not just a Smeg. What a find! I went to buy a new fridge recently as needed a smaller one and the guy in the shop asked me how old mine was and I said 15 years. He said definitely dont get rid of it as the new ones can break down in as little as a year or two as the components used are so cheap compared to old stuff. Stuff was just better made back then so worth keeping. This was very honest of him because he lost a sale as a result of that xx

I wish that my Mom would have had a gadget like that. She would put pans of hot water in our 1950's Kelvinator to melt the ice, then chisel it with a knife, cussing the whole time! I think one of the happiest days of her life was when the frost free fridge was invented. :)

Yeah all those small electrical gadgets were pretty pricey back then such as defrosters, can openers, garbage disposals etc, but most stores like sears and gimbals would let you take them home for a small fee, and let you pay them off in installments. Definitely a sweet little vintage item with original packaging thanks for sharing it ✨✨✨

Oh my gosh! I sure wish we had one of those when I was a kid. One of my chores was to help my mother defrost the freezer. We would put pans of hot water in the freezer and take a knife and chip away at the ice. It was hard work (especially for a kid) and it took a long time like all day. The price of this gadget back then would have been a bit prohibitive for many households. For example, the average weekly family income in 1952 was around $57.18. So this gadget would have cost more than a whole week's salary for the average American household. Other than that, it's a really nifty gadget. The only vintage gadgets I have are two electric percolator coffee pots. I think percolators make better coffee. I bought on eBay two percolators. One is an 8 cup percolator and it is very pretty. The other one is a 4 cup percolator and it is cute. I make coffee every morning in the larger percolator. The smaller percolator I use to make hot water for tea. Oh, and on a different topic, I like our glasses. My mother had glasses like that. I was going to have lenses put in them but then my house fire destroyed the glasses (and everything I owned and one of my cats died in the fire). Thanks for this fun video.
