Buildings with complex facades can pose challenges for design teams in terms of thermal and visual assessments. This video looks at a large project which retained a historical facade and inserted an office building inside. It certainly was a challenge in 2003 to support the design team understanding of the implications of their decisions.
I look at how such a project might be approached with todays tools and expectations for what constitutes a simulation model fit-for-purpose. It uses a mix of ESP-r, Blender and Radiance and touches on the work flows and choices about delivering the same stuff faster vs opportunities for new deliverables as well as the need for new levels of resolution in simulation models.
