Part (3) of many. This engine came out of my 1972 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia that has been sitting outside in the elements for a long long time. 15 to 20 years maybe more....
CT moog definitely I will brother those are the real project hope u can restore 100% wish I could get one of those but they’re expensive mean while I keep watching your videos keep it up bro 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Thanks. The KGhia very is my priority to have on the road this spring. Have had it stored away inside long enough. Missing a few more big engines also. Several of my best finds of rust free VW have had the engines removed.
Yes, That's why I like them too! Same with and of the old vintage cars and trucks before 1980 basically. Before they started adding computers and sensors and all that.
It has a Scat block and heads. Got them used in Germany. The weak link in a type 1 motor is the case. If you stay in the 100hp range. It will run forever. Once yay start going to and over the 150 mark you lower the longevity considerably. Dual port hands are a must. One 2 throat weber carb with a mild cam would put a big grin on your face. Most important hp fan and shroud and oil cooler external with remote filter.
Before you slpit the case. Make up some keepers to hold the lifters in position if you plan on reusing them. I didnt know about that before hand and had to order new lifters. Nice work matt
Eu e meu amigo Já desmontamos um em piores condições e até sem o suporte é sofrimento puro mas é até divertido . Pena que fizemos isso por falta de grana , o motor não durou muito mais quebrou um galho danado!

Just a hint: you should keep the parts sorted. E.g. used parts of the valve train should not be mixed. When I saw you take the push rods out I got the impression that you didn't pay attention to their order. I might be wrong ...
Was that engine running before you tore it down ? I have worked many of those engines and have never seen one that bad. It appears to also have water in the oil. Thus the milky looking oil.
Good Video. Don't intend to hijack. I have a 1970 Karmann Ghia that is missing the engine. Prefer to have a 1600 cc engine rebuilt for 100-140 HP. Where would a person begin?? Also any idea of the machine shop hours and cost of parts for a build like this? Also have squarebacks and a dozen bugs,, that will be mainly mild restomods, and some stock. I'm not a looking for a street race car, but am interested in more power for this ghia Vert. Thanks.
Not a critic but....anyone whos worked on ANY aluminum engines knows theres a tool called an IMPACT screwdriver for those tough bolts/nuts ect (very cheap) Don't turn your parts to scrap .
CT moog Wow, Luckey you, to have such a beautiful vintage coupe, yes subscribed. I love your work, because you believe in restoration not the modification, and that’s exactly what most of the people like, I am one of em. All d best and thanks. Regards
Consejo...es poco profesional de la mecánica agarrar un tornillo con una pinza.. si no sale con el destornillador dale unos golpes en la cabeza.. un poco de WD_40 y temperatura con una pistola de calor y sale
@@xavierjacques73 not true, the Imperial state of Japan had no Allies in the world, they had been to war with all their neighbors , and only surrendered after the battle of Okinawa because they feared fighting the United states on their mainland would open them up to Russia from the north.
