I'm a trained Mechanical Engineer and I would like to point out that if you are doing the sounds and vibration tests, you should do it in a controlled environment, where the roads are not bumpy and there are no cars traveling beside you. That way you can get more accurate results from a proper tool, for both, vibrations and sound tests. Otherwise, your review is just simply amazing mate. Continue this awesome job! cheers from Malaysia!!
The thing with VW is, the badge has more kudos than Ford and Vauxhall, but not as much as Audi, BMW, or Mercedes. I can see myself getting one of these because of the bora that I have now, which absolutely refuses to fall apart. Quality is excellent.
well the mustang also is a ford but still prettttyyy cool. Its not about the brand but the individual cars. If you have 20k$ you could get a 10 year old Mercedes e-class, or you could get a brand new ford fiesta. Both the same price, which one is more "premium"? Its really not about the brand
let me burst your bubble kid... reliability in german cars is a myth. just google most reliable car brands. german cars are at the middle or near the bottom. also quoting the focus rs, known for the head gasket failures in its latest models, doesn't make you look good.
Clearly you don't understand the difference between a brand and a group. They also own SEAT. If you were given a free choice between SEAT and Lamborghini, would you choose SEAT over Lambo because they're both by the same group? Stupid comment.
The point is that Volkswagen is not really competing with the likes of Audi, as the parent company is the same. As long as you buy one of their brands, it does not make a whole lot of difference to them.
silexTM Gaming - CS:GO looks good for them? Bitch they own all the big names in the automotive industry, Buggati Mercedes you name it they own it. Future is already bright for them
when you've come out of committing the largest scandal in the history of mankind, there's no where to go but up. Of course the future looks bright... still doesn't mean you won't see these pieces of junk lying on the side of the road in 10 years.
Personally, I think the Arteon looks incredible. Can't say which 1 I like the most (Audi, VW, BMW, Merc). I've also never known about that safety feature that just automatically makes the car pull up if you're asleep. Very clever indeed. Don't really care if it's an Audi, a VW or a BMW, I'd just buy the car for the looks, if I of course had the money.
@@handznetYes, it is indeed! I’m on my 2nd one!! The brand is just a badge but it’s what the car does, capable of and it’s looks are what that matter to me. 👍
I own this car in 2liter 150 hp R-Line version. This is a fantastic car. The engine is enough powerful for cruising and every day purpose. The interior is typically Volkswagen 😒, serious, not really fun, austere.... But classy and elegant. The driving, the handling and road dynamic of the car is excellent. The seats are a bit hard, not really comfy but it's ok. The acoustic in the "cockpit" is quite good, not to much road nor engine noise. Very good passive protection ( line keeping assistant is impressively efficient) you have the feeling of an autonomous car. After 7 months of using the car I'm really satisfied. I love it. I hope it helps even if I'm not fluent in English 😁?!
"It's just a Volkswagen" that's why vw wants to make this cause they don't want people to think their cars are "just a Volkswagen" they want you to think it's a premium brand that you can trust. Their heading in a good direction.
It is a bit on the expensive side, that's true. But what many people fail to mention is that if you are coming from something like a ford Mondeo (Fusion) or an Accord, you might be blown away by it. And long time reliability is a key factor here, I have never seen a broke down VW - have you? A friend has a 2006 5-series and he just paid $1000 for a starter motor. I mean, this is a luxury car for people who can't afford to keep up with one and for what it is it looks great, can't wait to go for a test drive
Volkswagen translates from German to "The car of the people" so of course the car is not meant to be as flashy and sporty as say an Audi. However I respect VW for upgrading their design to make up for not being a rival for Audi.
Because you pay for the brand too, why do people pay 800 pounds for an iPhone? It's the same, you wouldn't pay the same price and get a Nokia. Even if IT could do the same things.
Beyond the fact I love the way this thing looks, I gotta be honest and say I'd rather have this than the A5 sportback. Yes, the Audi will have a better interior and better performance options, but the VW won't have the baggage of being an "Audi driver". I know some will think that's a good thing, but I'd rather exceed expectations with my V-dub instead..
10/15 years before Audi/Bmw were very nice cars, and quality cars, + the marketing they do now, so lambda people have that image in their mind... VW started making great cars ( design, quality ) 4/5 years ago... So all the people now that vw is less a "premium"brand than Mercedes/audi/Bmw ...
Flyway what the actual fuck are you talking about? vw made good cars in the past you idiot their newer cars are absolute moneygrabbing bullshit which goes poof after your warranty ran out! older vw's were reliable as fuck and they've put some effort into them nowadays it's just everything the same and all cheap shit for a high price tag.
The A3 is more refined than the Golf, and the difference in price isn't that big, depending on spec. The base A3 is more expensive, but also has more options crammed in. I'm not sure if the top equipped A3 gets anything extra compared to the Golf, aside from the beefier engine though.
VW owns Audi, they have enough budget, but they want their cars to be for "normal People" (hence why Volkswagen, "People's car" in german), plus it wouldn't be smart to compete with Audi if you are the company owning them, would it?
i dont understand this, how is this in any way in competition with the A5? Volkswagen made this and they also made the A5. Theyre competing with themselves? hmm
Okay MAT... I cant hold myself to ask you this... Your biceps look a bit more fluffy than normal... Did you use any sort of muscle pumper? Sorry if this query hurts you Mat... A big fan of yours :)
Ted Davis Yes, all that awesomeness is good for the first 60k miles, after that you're going to be spending lots of time and money at the mechanic shop.
Honestly love VW and everything they do! I have a ‘99 V6 Passat and I’m looking to get a MK7 GTI. I test drove one and absolutely loved it. Can’t wait to get one of these in a few years when they depreciate!!
And if it's a Volkswagen, what? Why this car can't be as good as a BMW 5 Series or Mercedes E class? In my opinion, this Arteon looks much better than BMW 5 Series and E class from Mercedes
AD M all BMW interiors are the same, I owned a 4 series and a 5 series and when I got a loaner 3 series that was the same too. I now have an Arteon, the interior is better than my 2015 4 series, its faster, better looking, better equipped and cheaper; oh and it has 5 doors for our new baby - win!
No, VW own Porsche. The Porsche Holdings owns VW. They outmaneuvered the whole market including some really big Hedgefonds, some of them are still salty. A lot of salty court cases afterwards, VW and Porsche basically won.
You should measure the vibration by putting the phone ON THE SEAT. You placed it on the on the armrest which amplifies the intensity of the vibrations.
When I was driving the Arteon r-line it made an big difference rather I put it in sport mode or not. For me personally it made more fun driving the Arteon in sport mode than the Golf R.
Technical the arteon is a Passat VW and recently took the CC out of production and created the Arteon to take it's place love the design and the video tho
Sean Kelly even though I'm gay I still love cars what are you trying to say we all unicorns and rainbows? Think again we come in different shapes and sizes. And we like just about the same things y'all do except the difference in sex preferences that's it. I love cars more than I love d%#k!
Is this supposed to be an upmarket version of the Passat CC? While the exterior is pretty nice, the interior seems to be from another page, it is just unacceptably dull. In fact, it seems like it's been taken out of some random VW car.
With regards to the SPL reading ignore the result because the microphones in phones are cheap crap so SPL readings will be very inaccurate compared to a decent quality Class 1 SPL meter. The automated emergency stop is probably useless because it takes a while to recognise the driver isn't responding and by that time you could of crashed.
Exterior runs rings around A5 and 4 series put together. Interior is not exciting but its plush and posh enough for me. They should have introduced a screen that glides out of the dashboard may be?
The Volkswagen Arteon isn't really meeting the luxury small car standard since it is not as sporty as some rivals. Some rivals also have better materials inside, which defeats a luxury car's purpose, and the controls are poorly designed. But, I do like the interior and the exterior of the car!
Apparently, the R-Line chassis/exterior is getting a small redisign reveal at the New York Auto Show in March, and they've already replaced the steering wheel with the more attractive one you find in 2015+ Jetta's. (I hate the one in the video)
VW always been stylish. They know how to do designs right way. They ride good, not too expensive and also vw cares about their customers. Overall them are good stylish cars and i prefer them to other brands
I had this as a demonstration car the other day. The invoice said it cost about 50.000 € which included 20.000 € worth of optional extras and yet it it had no navigation system lol.
It's a new generation of a Volkswagen CC. The cc is the Volkswagen version of the Audi A7. Up until now the cc had its own trunk. Now it's just like the a7.
Why are top of the range models always tested? The Arteon is much better value as the base model and still comes with lots of safety kit. Go on Matt, test the 1.4 TSi automatic with 150 bhp.
Idk why the price is a problem here in the states the top range Arteon starts at 46000 I think. For that you can maybe get a fairly well equipped A3 or a Premium A4 (which really has nothing). My last car was a premium plus A4 at just over 51000 and had way less kit than the Arteon
VW owns Audi, Watson. However for those of us that have owned the past ten years of VWs already know that VW has an incredibly attention to detail on their interiors and exteriors. If we love our cars and many of us do, it really isn't the same if we have to drive a Ford or Honda. The level of thought and quality in a VW is higher than that of a comparable car from even Mercedes.
Michael Miller Sorry, but you can't compare premium brands with a cheap manufacturer. Yes, VW owns Audi, but both of them have their own production and concepts. If you really think a VW has same quality as a mercedes for example, than you just tell us with it, that you have never driven a car like that.
I have driven a ton of different cars as I detail cars. Mercedes uses so much plastic it is unreal. Their carpets are good and so is their wood, their shifters are unnecessary and their ride is going to be more comfortable as is a luxury car. Bang for your buck VW is for the most part a lot better than Mercedes.
Michael Miller Well, that's just your opinion. There are a couple of reasons why VW has never sold a car for 100.000 and more. I saw lots of VW cars, where I couldn't found at least one piece of real leather. All soft touch plastic and if you're lucky some metal at the front board, that it looks a little nice. Even some of the cheapest BMW models - the 1 series - are from higher quality, than the best VWs like Arteon or 7R, although it's a middle class estate car. Just take a look on the technology and the mechanics of the m140i and it's clear, why it have it's price.
I've seen a black one a few days ago , not very common car yet around here " Dubai " .anyway it was evening time , and I couldn't believe the car showing in my mirrors is a VW , the LED lights implies that a very luxurious car is coming , the shape of the body is nothing less than an audi or a mercs , I think it's a car you can enjoy and drive confidently .
I'm normally not a VW guy, but this Arteon looks very good... and yes I like this design over the Audi and BMW. Inside is a bit dull though, but that's VW...
Absolutely love this car. If there is any car that will take me away from Audi this will. A for spec Arteon is £11,000 cheaper than a Audi A5 sportback
Great review. We have owned many Vdubs and I was pretty excited about Arteon after running a launch CC manual up to 130k with no issues. No manual is a deal-breaker. Had to laugh reading reviews as your “backseat” section I said: “jeez did you just do a dozen curls?” The guns are amped. Others thought so to. Funny. Price point is important with this car. They want it to be luxury, but it is sporty looking. A base manual tranny with two-tone V-Tex would be spot on with me. Keep the nanny’s except blind spot warning and give me an affordable Arteon...sadly VW won’t do that so they are “off my list”. Otherwise: LOVE THE CAR. I feel the urge to work out. Weird... :)
