This video was so helpful. Took me less than 2 min to get it out. As a woman I feel liberated lol. I removed a car radio. With my radio tools I ordered from Amazon. Thanks
Thanks for posting this- My '98 didn't have that little lock for the antenna, and the replacement radio did- so this video solved that little mystery-it let me see how it was supposed to work-
Check your owner's manual, it may be written in on one of the pages. There is also a "Code Card" for the vehicle. It too may be in the folder with the owner's manual. And, in some cases, if the stereo has ever been removed before, the code may be written on the stereo. If none of these apply, your local dealership may supply the code given the serial number from the stereo.
First time I've been able to find my radio on here. I have a code a dealer found when he said he looked up my vin. But I had a look in the boot and found 9866 but lots of videos on here says the first number has to be a 1 or blank??? Also I don't have mode button. I have put number dealer gave me into radio several times and have had to wait the hour etc etc. I'm doing something wrong but not sure what it is, any help would be fantastic.
Great video. On reinstalling original head unit i cannot push the unit in to its aperture as the wires and connectors are in the way behind? How do i make enough space behind to push the head unit back all the way? thanks
Thanks for the video... BIG help! Anyone know any tricks for getting the radio to go back in? My Beetle is ten years old, and the bundle of cales is very stick and seems to be preventing the radio from going all the way back in.
Found that 2 rapala fillet knives work in place of the keys. Put the flat side of knife to outside, be careful when pulling radio out....they ARE knives.
Nice video. Perhaps you cab help me with my little problem? I removed the New Beetle stereo and replaced it with a Pioneer stereo with bluethooth and parrot (DEH-4600BT). It appears that the demo doesn't switch off... Any idea if I need some electrical supply? How can I do that, from the battery? Thanx!
Great vid, most of my doubts were solved but, what's the first connector for? Disc changer? I've installed some aftermarkets radio on other cars I had and they only have the other 2 standard connectors. I'm thinking of replacing myself the stock radio of my 2008 Beetle for a aftermarket Indash DVD, would it be just plug n play or is there any trick? Thanks.
Hola que tal, tengo un problema con mi stereo de mi beetle, un disco se quedo atascado y no se como sacarlo de ahi, tengo que sacar toda la unidad para abrirla completamente??
See the wire harness diagrams on the website, they may be helpful. Depending on which connector is first, depending on top or bottom, one connector can be three different colors and three different pieces snapped together, this is usually the CD changer connector.
Mine radio comes on and show all the stations but I am not getting any sound at all and I have put in to factory radios in it. I have to codes for both of them i know that it not the trouble. Do you have any suggestion??
@boblizcou hi, thanks for answering. I didn't remove it yet, it's a VW CD Player (not the one of your vid). I was talking about the first connector you remove on your vid, the colored one. Because I've already changed the players of other car I had, but none of them had this conector, just the brown and the back connector you take off after the colored one.
Will some one tell me what buttons I need to press after i put in the code to get it off safe mode. I dont have the user manual, but i do have the code.
I found a website that said the radio code is also inside the trunk. You have to use your phone or turn yourself (your body) up so that you are looking toward the sky inside of your trunk (looking upside-down" so to speak). I did spot a 4 digit code in the trunk of my 2007 Convertible Beetle, but it did not get the radio out of Safe Mode and it went into Safe Mode 1. I then tried again and it is in Safe Mode 2. I was told to wait an hour and try again. I did find a website that showed how to cut and shape credit cards to make the "keys" (radio removal tools) to fit in the slots to get the radio out (I only needed 2 "keys" for my radio). I was hoping to see the 4 digit code on the radio once I pulled it out, but no luck. I had to use 2 putty knives to pry the radio out (on the sides worked best for me with the putty knives) as the credit cards that I shaped like the "keys" broke when trying to pull the radio out. My radio serial no. was a combination of 14 digits and letters and began as: "VWZ4Z7G1...." I may have to call the "stealership" with my VIN number and the number I got off the radio once I pried it out. I am going to wait an hour and see if I can input the 4 digit code from the trunk that I found again. I also read you need to have the ignition key and radio on for an hour to get out of Safe Mode 2. www.vwcodes.org/blog/122 I was able to re-enter the 4 digit code an hour later with just the radio on and not the ignition on and it did not accept the 4 digit code from the trunk of the car which looks like it is "stamped" into the metal as if engraved, it is not a "sticker" with a 4 digit code.
Hi I have just bought a 2000 vw and it has this radio but I cant figure out how to save the radio station to a channel I can scan and find them just not keep them once the radio is turned off can any one help
Ok... so problem. So I was having a problem with my cd player. I took the radio out ( didn't know I needed to save the code- where can I find that?) I ended up breaking it ( I am not car savvy -_- ) So then I looked for a new radio to put in it... So I misunderstood and cut off all those connectors...which my FB car guys told me is bad....because I thought I had to mix wires up and form them ( no- I have NO CLUE what I am talking about). So... now I have a car with the radio wires hanging out- beheaded, a broken radio, and a gapping hole in my dash. So I found that I can just buy a NEW (used) stock radio for my car...which is great except my aux plug doesn't work very well ( you have to wiggle it a LOT and it doesn't stay clear sounding or I have found that plugging my phone in to charge on a USB while ALSO plugged into the aux is the only way to get clear-ish sound ( but I have a high pitched noise that is constant ( changes as I change gears when accelerating). ANYWAY- So I am willing to buy a stock replacement radio for the car at about $150, but the AUX plug is not on the radio- is there a way to fix the Aux plug? And again, codes for the radio?
The reason it is not working is because you need to input your radio security code that is found in the owner and repair manual, if the code is gone you can go to any VW dealership with your vin number or your radio serial number and they can give you your code.
I had this problem. The radio was halfway out, but I couldn't pry it the rest of the way. The faceplate detached and then it was difficult to put the removal key into the right place. Eventually I discovered I could pry the metal stops out by going behind the sides of the metal front of the cd player. I used a screwdriver and pried the silvery metal tabs to the side until they pulled out, then the radio came right out. Unfortunately, I discovered this after taking the glovebox off to check if the radio was stuck on the antenna wiring. I've ordered a harness converter, an antenna connector and a new radio and hope to be singing in traffic soon.
