Part (2) of many. This engine came out of my 1972 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia that has been sitting outside in the elements for a long long time. 15 to 20 years maybe more....
Ahh yes. Nice teardown i have fond memories of my bus teardown and rebuild last winter. Lots of fun! Definitely put on the to do list. Clean the crap out of the heat riser on the intake manifold while you are at this point of the dissesembly. It's a must on the rebuild. God work bro! Right on
Just look at everything you work on as a puzzle and you have to take the puzzle apart and put it back together. That's how I approach things. You have the engine running already so I would assume the case is going to be fine. The case that I was working with was sitting on the ground for at least 25 years, it was a bit corroded in some areas on the exterior. Machine shop had to do a line bore and polish the crank
Yes, that's good advise. It can be a bit overwhelming with all the different parts. How much did the shop charge you for that? Hopefully thats all I need as well.
machine work was around $600, that included new bearings, I had Rimco in California do it, I remember you saying you are having it done locally. Text me at 860-227-9069 I want to send you a link to some really helpful videos that I used in conjunction with how to rebuild your Volkswagen engine book. I followed those like a Bible step by step the whole way through
Thanks man! I use iMovie to slow things down or speed them up. There are other programs you can use as well. What program do you use to edit the videos?
4 cylinder boxer engine that that's the one of a kind every new vw van it's just water cooled holy crap he's hot I guess big fan for the workshop could be nice upgrade
i know this is a little old but pb blaster and a impact screwdriver would really help on some of those screws! i should know they helped me take apart a severely rusted rifle!
@@CTmoog no problem, wd40 is more a lube and pb blaster is more of a rust perpetrator and works a lot better! good luck and keep up the awesome videos!
CT moog I’m from Kosova and I have Beetle 1974 J and it is still running and working,Your shows will help me in my car how to repair brain car/motor/Thank you again.!!
Too late now, but next time when you have old bolts that have rusted, soak them for a couple of hours with WD 40. It may save you from breaking a stud and a lot of work. Work the bolts back and forth slowly to get them off. Spray WD40 a time or two as you do this.
when you are working on the motor, how about telling people what you are doing to it and inform people what you have found what is good or bad about parts that are coming off
