Whenever a hydraulic braking system is serviced, it's almost always a requirement to bleed the system to ensure there isn't any air in the lines. Air trapped in the hydraulic brake lines can result in soft pedal feel, as well as reduced braking performance. Consider bleeding the system whenever a caliper or brake line is replaced, or if the existing fluid is a few years old.
Mike Rivera is here to demonstrate an easy way to get the air out and get fresh fluid in on a 1993 Volvo 940 Turbo. He'll be using Pentosin DOT-4 brake fluid and the help of a brake bleeding cup. Lisle makes a great brake bleeding cup kit similar to the one used in this video, which allows a single technician to pump the brakes without worry of ingesting air back into the lines.

Thanks for the information. I just bought a 940 from 1993. Before I have had 460 SE (1994) and 740 GLE (1986). If you should buy an old great car, you get a Volvo (before the year 1995)

Nah, both P1 and P2 are way better platforms, though I've got to admit I've got a soft spot for ugly 240s, but then I'm asking myself do I really want to drive in a "Flintstones mobile" - nah P2(V70 2.5T5 the later the better) as a daily driver is the way to go! ;)

I noticed your 93 940 turbo has ABS. So you didn't follow any special procedures to bleed the system because of the ABS?

I am going to change out the front flex lines on my 98 S70 when I change the rotors. are there any other procedures to do as a result of the fluid loss and the car having antilock brakes? i thought it might not be a bad idea to time change such old lines.

Hello, it's definitely a good idea to inspect the brake hoses and change if you see any signs of deterioration. I would also perform a brake fluid flush as well.

You can either use a power bleeder such as the Motive Products one we sell or do it the old fashioned way.

I see on Brickboard that it says on ABS units to bleed from the left rear which is farthest from the ABS unit?

That abs is on the same side as the MC,,my 93 940 has the abs on the passenger side..

Hi, can Pentosin DOT 4 be substituted for genuine Audi brake fluid? I have an Audi and my dealer charges way too much for Audi brake fluid. Thanks for posting.
