Very thorough explanation of the wiring system. This video is far better than the difficult to read schematics provided. Thank you so much for making these videos!
Hi Ted. My boat has dual D4-260's with EVC-C. I've started to have it that suddenly both engines will show low voltage warnings and display voltage to be at around 12.1 even though engine batteries are at 12.7. Can you advice on where the EVC-C pick the up the voltage (somewhere on one of the engines?) and what connection points I should check for a poor connection that may cause this problem?
Congratulations. the explanation was very didactic. I have a technical question. The datalink conducts data from each engine and the multilink is a bus that conducts both. Does the datalink uses J1939 protocol and the multilink also with the difference that it adds an identifier per engine?
Hi Ted. I have an EVC C1/C2 boat and I am looking to upgrade to C3. I am getting many mixed reviews on the idea. Some techs say that it only requires a software update, some say that I need to replace my HCU’s, and some say that it might not be possible for my boat. Would you mind sharing your thoughts on this? Thank you!
Hello o-master of the Penta of Volvo, Question: I had a 2018 D4-260 and she passed away so we just got a brand new D4-270 which looks identical except it has another external computer box we need to mount, will my color 4"x4" color display and old throttles work with the new engine without programming? Or at all since its a newer generation? Thanks Guru
Ohhhh... so if you have a new D4-270, then you have a different version of EVC, your 2018 D4-260 was likely EVC-E and now you have EVC-2.0 which is a new engine design and an updated EVC software platform. The only way you can find out if your old controls and display are compatible is through the reprogramming of your helm HCU (control) to make it (if possible) compatible with your new engine package. So your will need to contact a Volvo Penta dealer and have them come down with a VODIA diagnostic tool to see if they can fix the software conflict you have. By the way the new box you have is the DGM which is the diagnostic gateway. Good Luck! Ted
