Checked with VIDA that the damper motor in my MY 1999 Volvo S70 is now working properly. It is now :)
It was stuck on ventilation setting, so it didn't demist the windscreen. The unit threw error code CCM-322, Air distribution damper motor active too long and didn't respond to the switch setting. I bought a replacement motor from a scrapyard, Volvo part 9134729. Opened it up, cleaned the circular carbon trace with contact cleaner and greased the cogs. For replacement on a LHD MY 1999 V70 or S70 you need to remove lower dashboard panel, knee padding and the black tube (loosen the upper dashboard panel from the left to get it out). Now the fiddling starts because you can't reach the three T15 screws holding the damper motor so you need a short Torx key and a flexible screwdriver with a T15 bit. Once the screws are out, use a flat screwdriver as a lever to pull the motor off. Align the dampers with the replacement motor by turning the white disc so it will click in place. Then replace everything in reverse order, the T15 screws back in is the hardest part :)
And whatever you do, DO NOT PERFORM A DAMPER MOTOR CALIBRATION WITH VIDA. It will brick your unit with a green flashing AC button. Just replace the stuck motor and it will self-calibrate.
