I tested it in december and got 220-230 km of range in temperatures around +1 C, rain and 110 km/h speeds, so I'm not surprised seeing your numbers. It's a decent first attempt from Volvo, but it simply will not do. I also had trouble with voice navigation where I could say the same thing repeatedly and it would only understand it one out of three attempts.
I have this car. Got on December 4 soon driven 4000 kilometers in just over a month. The car is amazing. But it's thirsty. Heavy SUV 4x4 with 408 horsepower. I have come 270 kilometers on full battery this winter with 20 inch tires. Then with minus 6 degrees Celsius. Now with minus 20 degrees Celsius, it goes 200 kilometers. In summer it does another 400 kilometers. Hope Volvo comes with battery heating and that Volvo buys in so we get cheap fast charging. Everyone who sells electric cars has bought into a company. The car is very good to drive. A luxury car.
Interesting how somewhat unpredictable this car is other than it is very thirsty. I live in USA where temps are almost always of 0C and most of the year temps are 4-33C. that 194km range is 120 US Miles, that is rather limited, but still ok for me as long as I keep it charged every day. Also most of my driving would be under 90km/hr so hopefully that would help/
I ordered this very car in 27/12/2021, good thing that I live in Brazil, so here maybe I can expect a bit better range. The average temperature in my city (Recife-PE) is 21 to 27°C in the winter and 23° to 30°C in the summer.
If your XC40 P8 has a heat pump and when you navigate to a HPC, e.g. Ionity, Volvo will start preheating the battery ca. 15min before you get there. Then you can achieve 135kw (peak) at HPC.
@@KrisRifa My XC40 P8 dealer here in Finland :D and also some of the Finnish P8 drivers have proven this to be correct. When they have arrived to a HPC without navigating there, they end up with max ~70kW even if the SOC is below 20% at the start. Still waiting my own P8...
Nice test! Very thirsty, but for me it would still be fine. I'm used to my BMW i3S with about 200-230km range. Btw, same car (I checked the plates) as Björn tested! :D
@@KrisRifa It does have it.... at least mine does. Also has adaptive cruise control. www.volvocars.com/en-ca/support/manuals/xc40-recharge-pure-electric/2020w37/driver-support/pilot-assist/pilot-assist
Don’t forget that this is Volvos first fully electric car! The efficiency is expected to improve with over the air software updates. Also, with battery technology always getting better, with new models the battery will probably also be improved. Cut Volvo some slack. Great video btw!
@@KrisRifa You may find this funny, but I don't. I was watching this clip at 3 am last night (with very low volume). Everyone else in the house, wife and grandkids, were fast asleep when my Google Home mistakenly misinterpreted your command and started playing some kind of music. We had the Google Home set up at high volume and guess what happened? Everyone in the house woke up. Every RU-vidr should mute the "Hey Google" in their videos! Almost noone does though... At least, put up a warning in advance that you will potentially trigger our Google Home if we watch the video.
Hi Kris, Kindly do a range test of 100% to 0% SOC on motorway speed on XC40 P6 Single Motor car and share the results on your channel. Not a single car reviewer has done this test and everyone is focusing on P8 Twin motor.
A 195 km range under those winter conditions. Hmm! Where I live it is quite common during the winter to experience the temps - and lower - you tested under. The nearest city to me, and a city many of my fellow residents drive to to visit family, friends, etc. is about 700 km's away. So, with that range you would have to charge up 3 times to make that drive. You had better pack a lunch because it's going to be a long day! I've seen Tesla charging stations in my area where they have notices on them stating that they do not work below -30 degrees Celsius. I guess you had better book a motel along the way because you could be stranded before you reach your destination. I think I'll stick with my old internal combustion engine. I may burn some gas, but at least I'll get there!
it's exactly the same powertrain as a polestar2, and it's heavier and less efficient as a SUV, so it must more thirsty than a Polestar 2, it's quite a normal thing hence volvo try to protect the battery pack which made the car so heavy, one thing I concerned is that is the P8 without auto-hold function in non one-pedal mode
Kris is also driving it around 120-124. It's not ideal for consumption (nor legal Kris!) Because of bad aerodynamics (large front area and boxy shape) it is also punished harder @ higher speeds (as in multiplicative, not additive). Good video Kris, makes me happy I specced mine with heatpump!
Hi Kris. Thank you for this interesting video of one of my favorite car. On my test drive with one pedal driving I had the same high consumtion, 33kw/h for 50km with normal driving (80km/h & 110km/h) at 6 degrees! Is there perhaps a different of consumtion by driving with/without one pedal driving? Best regards from switzerland, Hans
Forstår enda mindre av dette forbruket nå. Kjøpte meg en klin lik bil for en uke siden, den er kjørt fra Skjærhalden til Hugulia og tilbake. To mennesker i bilen, to hunder, fullastet baksete. Takgrind med skiboks, alt av komfort slått på. Kuldegrader, snø og is. Snittforbruk ble på 24kw/100km.
Does this car have a heat pump? I know that it is optional including in Norway, which is very strange. In the US, it is like a $500 USD option, 655 Euros in Germany and 5,200 NOK in Norway, which seems ridiculous given the price of the car. It should be standard along with pro pilot.
I like your reviews, but driving at 125 km/h (speed limit 100) while filming and demonstrating the use of buttons is really not good if you want to appear as a serious car tester!
With regards to the PilotPro not being available on this car; could it be that it has been removed by Volvo for MY21? Jaguar removed it from all of their cars as well following changes in safety regulations. It seems however that not all manufacturers have disabled their lane centring functionality for MY21, it may depend on how conservative their legal departments are. Kris it would be great if you could enquire with Volvo if it wasn't available because they have removed it from their range
The new Infotainment in the XC40 recharge and Polestar 2 is pure android. All the other SPA/CMA-platform cars are sensus-based so retrofitting won´t be possible as the software in older ones won´t support it.
Using your left hand to guide us through the buttons on the right of the steering wheel, while using your right hand to record with your phone... at 120kmh? Darwin will catch you eventually.
The Volvo EV sucks in winter driving.. it is just that simple! Well, the range is pathetic even in warm weather driving. I guess if you strictly drive around in the city you will be ok.
If Volvo uses the same pilot assist as Polestar, it's no wonder why they disabled it on the press car. Probably the most useless and dangerous pilot assist-system I've ever tried.
