I think the Volvos did really good considering the tires they had. I own a Jeep Rubicon and we can get stuck too despite lockers front and rear and big tires. When there is no friction, nothing helps but a tow line.
Recently bought 2015 D5. I want to put my car into mud, but watching this video... I'll keep un the road. Don't want to scratch or break something. Nice to know what XC70 can do!
I own a Volvo V70 ,Couldnt even contemplate getting her tyres muddy let alone in deep Mud . I cry every time I watch these beautiful cars in the deep mud & water
My summer cottage is in the forest and the way to it is like in this video during spring time. Mud gravel and snow soft mixture. That is why I needed XC70 to make it possible to go there with a trailer and load gargo. Keeping in mind that I have no any special gear or additional stuff in the car...it is a great vehicle for the purpose. Still it goes nicely and smoothly with high comfort on the motorway one part of the journey. Naturally there are REAL off road cars but they are for that purpose and totally crappy on smooth tarmac and in cities. XC70 is an awesome compromise to do all.
The haldex system is the next best thing after symmetrical AWD from Subaru, can't compare Volvo to Subaru's though, Volvo is a much comfier car inside with the nice leather etc.
Surely the point here is that an XC70 will get you to your destination in comfort, with your mind at rest that if you get a load of bad weather, it will handle it more securely than a 2WD, and could even manage some light off-road stuff if you get really lost. If you are a serious off-roader, then an XC70 shouldn't even be on your short, or even long list.
Nedávno jsme přišli o S60 D5 2004. 😭 Máme ještě XC70 T6 a starou 480 turbo. Volva po roce 2016 jsou sice krasná, ale 5-6-8 válce chybí. Tedy pokud to není whiteblock nebo redblock. Utekli jsme ke konkurenci a teď už ty motory jsou pryč napríč značkám v Evropě.
My 2013 xc70 t6 has yet to get stuck and I’ve pushed it to some extremes. Drove around in snow well past my bumper for about 25 mins and got “stuck” a few times but was easily able to get out each time. Things are tanks
Should ask the EU some money to build more roads in this Baltic state , like this can throw away those Chinese brand owned Geely-Volvos and replace them by less expensive Ladas like in the good old times . Buy a Subaru , iT s a good option if the EU don t bite
Yes the Subaru did look impressive, but don't forget it most likely had been fitted with the best specialist off road equipment it needed, to do the job it was there to do, i.e. to pull out stuck vehicles, whilst the Volvo's I believe where bog standard and as such makes them very impressive too.
It’s all about grip and your first point of grip is tyres , like too see these with some off tyres or at least some good all terrain, going to have too buy one now lol
I am in the Market for new car (new to me). Can't decide between an A6 allroad and the XC70 between 2007-2010. The Allroad is definetly more fun to drive and the V6 3l 240bhp engine has less fuel consumption and drives a timing chain not a belt which also reduces costs. That is being offset by the cost the air suspension will generate. The XC70 on the other Hand has more ground clearence tha the allroad and you could lift it using a lift kit or the suspension of the XC90. Can't really do that to an allroad. So the XC70 is easier and cheaper to modifiy. and the 5 Zylinder sound nice too but thats about as much fun that engine allows on highways And since i am not rich enough to afford two cars, this has to also be my main mode of transportation. Can't drive a Big 4x4 daily 50 miles to work. I am torn
Iv had a x5 bmw a jeep cherokee and the grand chereokee, iv got a range rover sport right now( which im convinced was built by a 5 year old whilst drunk!) ,,,but i intend to buy a 2012 xc70 , somthing i should have done along time ago!
No cóż. Miałem XC70 kilka lat. Fajne auto i mam do niego duży sentyment. Ale w teren, nawet lekki to ono się nie nadaje zupełnie. Dobrze, że ma chociaż spory prześwit(~21cm). Jak by ktoś chciał trochę to auto usprawnić pod kątem wyjechania w takie miejsca jak na filmie to podstawą są odpowiednie opony. Najlepiej to jakieś AT. Jak by co to teraz mam Jeepa „granda” m.in. z reduktorem wiec mam porównanie. Pozdrawiam „wolwiarzy” :-)
Если не посадить на пузо, прет как танк, особенно на хорошей зимней резине. Я вот в Молдове посадил недавно на плотный глубокий снег, вынужденно, на полевой дороге, буксовал пока не сработала защита и не заблокировался руль :( испугался. выгреб снег под колею и выехал, когда подтолкнули. Затем, поднялся в затяжной снежно-ледяной подьем, с отключенным DSTC. Что касается субару, тоже имеют лимит проходимости, друг прошлой зимой посадил на пузо в снежно-глиняной каше Форестер 2002 года, механика, и раскрошил вискомуфту, попал в дорогой ремонт
Как я обладаю хс70. Две было. Последняя 08 г. Дизель 180 сил. Много лет мечтал и к сожалению только пол года был счастливым владельцем. Серьезная рабочая травма и второй год реабилитации в рф. Инвалидность более не дают. Продал и плакал как ребёнок. Тепер работать как раньше не смогу и понимаю что увы более такую не купить.
VolvoTV да такая идея была. Я электрик и люблю столярку. Вот много лет установка дверей Теперь с полторы руки увы и мысле более нет. Ручная дисковая пила по серединки кисти 6 часов операция и уже почти 2 года реабилитация. Но смотрю хоть на подержанный s80. Вольво это свой мир. Я выходить не хотел на хс70 дизель ехал иногда и по 120км до объекта. Ещё сидел трубочку ещё .одну перед работай. Но лишь бы по дольше посидеть в машине.

I'm toying with the idea of getting an xc70, I live in snowdonia North Wales,,I think an xc70 would be ideal for that environment..not extreme off roading, but trails and in the snow..are they a good vehicle

ok I got a question since you guys love Volvo's and I happen just to have one. In my xc90 when I go to shift to drive the shifter always drops into manual what's wrong with it
I've got one of these Chelsea Tractors great car! But if you need to do this you need to buy a defender and swop the $hitty ford transit engine out for a BMW M57! Or buy a Grenadier with a factory fitted M57 when it's finally released!
Serious question to people who know D5 Volvo engines well. How is it running after 10-15 years? I know it's a good engine, but still turbo diesel with DPF filter. Also, how is Geartronic automatic transmission after 10-15 years, assuming the oil has never been changed (since I know many people don't touch it)?
I've had mine for 3 years, bought it at 118k miles and now on 145. The engine is stunning. I've had issues with other things but the D5 is a beast and sounds muscly for a diesel.
I have a 2012 D5 manual 6 gearbox 215hp, now 420000km and no clutch for the moment ! Just the normal service (engine oil and brakes)! Just like a tank !
Nic Moreno I’m from New Mexico. And my family has a 2005 xc70. Goes through a bunch without off road tires there 😉. It’s perfect for the snow there too if you are up further North in New Mexico. Closer to Taos ski valley. Was literally at the Pueblo one winter and it went through everything quite well. Can only imagine what it will do with off road tires. I also see many people with old xc70s near there. Would recommend
